We need a proper all action number 9, someone that's going to cause defences problems, a fit Kukharevych type that will play up against defenders, have pops at goal, a strong runner. What we've got just now is nowhere near good enough. Vente is so easy to play against, and Doidge is just Doidge. A number 9 is a huge priority for me. We had it in Nisbet, hearts have got it in shankland. We don't have a focal point atall.

I'd love Myko back if he can stay fit. Exactly what we need.

The main problem is our number 9 is playing far too deep.

We could try playing our number 9 as a number 9 instead of a number 6.

Maybe it’s an Australian thing, Monty still readjusting to life in the northern hemisphere, he thinks Ventes a 6.

I don’t think Vente is the type of number 9 described in the OP.

He’s talked about it himself, how it’s more technical in Holland and more of a fight here. Speaking about it on the other thread but if you look at the Shankland goal last week, he won the fight for the ball first and foremost. We’re not going to get that type of thing from Vente.

He’s clearly a good technical footballer. That’s fine in the Dutch second division, the more I’m watching him the more I’m wondering if he’s suited to the game here. Teams sit so deep, load their box and he’s just never going to get the time and space he got over there.

I thought he was in the box plenty today but it’s either not falling for him or he’s not doing enough to get on the end of things. Watching the highlights back and you see on three or four occasions him peeling out to the edge of the box looking for a cut back. Was actually decent movement on a few occasions and he looked awfy frustrated when the ball didn’t come his direction.

There was a heat map posted the other day showing his touches for Hibs and his touches last season. He was in and around the box the vast majority of the time last season. This season he’s mostly been on the ball in the centre circle and even incredibly had 2 hot spots as a DM.

If you look at the YouTube videos of his goals in Holland, he’s got acres of space. You come over here and play against teams that play with about 6 centre halves and have no intention of coming up the pitch.

As I say, I don’t think he’s a bad player, far from it. I just don’t think the lack of form is all down to the way he’s playing or is being asked to play.

Vente is a quality player, we don't need a new number 9, we need our manager to open his eyes and play to our team's strengths.

It's becoming ridiculous now, Maloney 2.0

I’m just not convinced Vente’s that good, neither is Doidge, and with ALF out injured it has left us in a bit of a pickle.

On paper it looks like we should be quite potent up front but in reality, we’re struggling there every bit as much as we are in midfield and at the back.

I’m yet to be convinced by Vente too.

He may not be playing the ‘poacher’ role he apparently likes, but even so..top strikers usually still find a way to score.

Midfield is the area that needs major surgery. It's been overlooked for far to long.

I think it’s a really top quality number 10 we need to tie the midfield and attack together rather than a new number 9. If we only sign one player this window, that’s where I hope he plays.

Sadly there's many 60 year olds, sitting in the stands, who would be a handful for our defenders! Our back 4 needed ripped out and rebuilt 4 seasons ago.

It’s not the same thing but I think they both go together to an extent. If he’s not getting enough touches in the box it’s likely because he’s not often in the box.

I agree he should be doing more and even the basics seem to have deserted him, however, I think he’s being woefully mismanaged. If I was him I’d be questioning whether I’d made the right move at this point in time.

Totally agree with that. Up to him to get on the end of things also.

He can question that if he wants but if he doesn’t get the finger out he’s not going to have anyone queuing up to take him off our hands.

We could definitely tweak things to try and get more out of him. I do think woefully mismanaged is over the top though and he is, at least, equally culpable for his poor form.

Not sure about that, we got £1.2m for Melkersen and Vente has already shown more than he did. I would be surprised if any teams who were looking at him previously would be massively put off by a poor half a season where he’s been left running around daft doing doggy’s in the centre circle.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I think the main reason for his poor form is him being used poorly in this system. He could be doing better, but I’m not sure how much better. He’s being used in a way that doesn’t appear to suit him at all.

What's the point? This clown will just play him at right midfield.
