Frankly rubbish result, with Hearts just proving they are slightly less rubbish and perpetually luckier. Anyone, thought I’d put together a quick ratings thread.

Marshall - 7 Was decent when called upon, looked fairly comfortable and was a spectator for most of the match. No chance with their goal

Miller - 5 (at the very most!) Poor passing, poor decision making and was constantly being targeted. Our right flank was a huge issue, particularly first half

Obita - 6 Played okay, solid enough but didn’t offer enough going forward

Fish - 6 Dealt with most things fairly well, though felt he should’ve reacted to the error for the goal better

Rocky - 5 Conceded a foolish penalty that put us on the back foot and gave away the goal. The phase when he skinned a couple of Hearts players then ran into trouble pretty much summed up his evening

Levitt - 5 Played a few nice passes to switch play, but totally failed to stamp hi authority on the game, which seems fairly typical of what I’ve seen of him so far. No idea what role he was supposed to be doing

Newell - 7 Tried to pick out passes and was his normal driven self. Didn’t have enough going on around him in midfield though

Campbell - 5 Lost the ball repeatedly and offered nothing either defensively or in an attacking sense. Looked a bit lost

Jair - 7 Worked hard, tracked back well. Looked like one of our only genuine threats that could’ve hurt them

Boyle - 5 Was poor all game long. Offered very little in terms of creativity or support. And his dive was just embarrassing. I’d dispute his penalty was a good save, I’m pretty sure every keeper in the league (and most guys who play 5s) would’ve stopped it

Vente - 5 Had little support up front but the game passed him by. Looks quite a different player from the version we had in his first few games. We need him in the box, not trying to link the midfield

Youan - 6 Made a difference when he came on and Hearts full back was clearly wary of him. Quite often, he drew a couple of players onto him, and a quicker release of the ball could’ve exploited space

Doidge - 3 Provably did more in his short cameo than Boyle and Vente combined managed in their whole match. Should’ve been on earlier to change the attack when it was clear that it wasn’t working

Not much to disagree with there.

Re Doidge, the big man has a knack of getting goals and often gives defenders something to think about, so when I look at how we were performing up front I've no idea why the managers waited until 5 minutes before the end to introduce him. Maybe the manager has no idea either.

Marshall - 7 - no chance with the goal. Didn’t have much to do but what he did, he did well.

Miller - 3 - absolutely atrocious. His distribution is utterly woeful
Fish - 6 - not his greatest performances but didn’t do all that much wrong
Rocky - 4 - gave away a penalty and made a total mess of the goal, ultimately costing us the game
Obita - 5 - didn’t offer much going forward

Jair - 6 - a decent performance. Worked hard, got stuck in but needs more end product
Levitt - 4 - desperately poor. Looks like a poor man’s Mallan
Newell - 8 - our best player. Worked hard, tough shift in there with someone with such a lack of mobility as Levitt
Campbell - 5 - really poor. Hopefully his injury isn’t too bad

Vente - 4 - what is it we’re trying to get out of him? He’s a complete waste of a jersey in this role Montgomery has him playing
Boyle - 4 - missed a penalty and was just generally, very very poor. Similar to Vente, I’ve no idea what Montgomery is expecting of him

Subs:

Doidge - 5 - done ok when he came on
Youan - 5 - injected a bit of excitement into the game but with no end product
Jeggo - 5 - hardly even noticed him

Montgomery - 3 - a terrible line up again that he won’t stray from. He’s not going to last sticking with this formation and style.

Marshall ... 7 .. Did everything fine, no idea if he had a chance with the goal .. I had my eyes shut.

Miller ... 4 ... Tried to get forward, but his passing would have embarrassed a pub league player.

Rocky ... 5 ... I actually thought he tried really hard to drive the team forward, but he made an absolute cock of it at their goal.

Fish ... 6 ... A pretty solid game from him, didn't do a lot wrong.

Obita ... 5 ... Did ok, but where Miller was underhitting everything on the right, he was overhitting it on the left.

Campbell .... 4 .... Never in the game ... hope he is ok though, it's never good to see a player stretchered off.

Levitt .... 4 ... Seen enough of him by now to form the opinion that I expect far more from a player that cost as much as he did.

Newell ... 8 ... Best player on the park by a mile for either team both in play and attitude .... I feel sorry for him.

Jair ... 7 ... Tried his best and coped better with the physicality than he would have when he first arrived ... there is hope for this guy.

Vente ... 5 ... Why pay £700,000 for a guy because he scores goals and then turn him into a £200,000 midfield player? ..Mental.

Boyle ... 4 ... Has clearly lost at least a yard of pace, gone from being the difference to being ineffective .. so sad.

Subs.

Youan ... 6 ... Did ok when he came on, but once again chose to take on 4 player at the edge of their box and lost the ball when he had a simple pass on. Will he ever learn to make the decisions that could take his game to a higher level?

Jeggo ... 4 .... Made no difference, but then nobody expects him to.

Doidge .... 4 ... Not on long enough to have an impact, but showed enough that give 20 to 25 minutes he might have.

NM ..... If he really needs his own players to make this system work he had better be crawling on his hands and knees to the board begging them for money in January, because clearly this set of players don't have it in them. More than anything he needs to get Newell help in midfield, the guy is carrying the players around him and it's not bloody fair.
