"Turkish football bosses suspended all leagues after a referee was punched to the ground by a club president following a top-flight game on Monday".

This is absolutely bonkers. Someone also kicked the ref in the head/face when he was on the ground.

Even the countries president has weighed in saying its unacceptable. There'll be two or three finding out what the inside of a Turkish jail cell looks like and deservedly so.

Who'd be a referee? That's absolutely shocking behavior from someone who's old enough to know better.

There was a similar indecent in Sydney earlier this year, and I think the perpetrator went away for a good stretch.

In a lot of these cases, it seems to start with just one player getting in the refs face.

I'm not sure if booking such players on the spot would reduce or exacerbate these types of incident.

I take it you realise the person responsible was the president of the club who conceded a 97th minute equaliser and not some random from the stands? Makes it even worse imho as they definitely should have known better.

Referee took a dull one from the images I’ve seen.

I agree with you. Refs have zero authority/respect nowadays and the crowding round them by players after every decision isn’t healthy for the game. Needs to be dealt with.

I still don’t understand why it’s not only the captain who gets to speak to the ref

Yet folk argue that it's acceptable because it's just "passion".

Anti-ref sentiment is encouraged by the media and, frankly, by boards such as these. It's extraordinary that sport should attract this kind of venom.

Yup, every week there are threads slating our refs. Some even before the game has taken place, like folk need to get in there in advance with their moans.

We've even had folk asking where the refs live ffs, hinting that if they stay in the west, they're biased to the OF.

It's total BS and people need to chill out about refs and VAR. There's no conspiracy against Hibs or any other club in the country.

Nah not having that, there is a clear bias for 2 clubs in Scotland, which is cheating the rest of us.

And he doesnt mess about Old Erdogan,if he gets involved with all this.
Some could well be very soon listening at the cell window for the whistle of Midnight Express !

Yet in the next game, Ranger's will get their 70th something penalty in the league without conceding one and it will be for an incident that no other club in the league (even Celtic) would be awarded.

The referees and VAR officials will hide behind "interpretation". When really, their only interpretation is what best advantages their club and pleases their pals down by the lodge.

But let's just keep on pretending that it's perfectly normal.

Celtic have had most penalties this season 9, rangers 8, Motherwell 3.

We all know that Rangers get penalties for anything but don't let those Celtic *******s pretend they are on the outside like us. Pair of establishment clubs, two cheeks of the same erse

Why do you think Hibs don't ever make this complaint if it's as obvious as you make out?

Because like the rest of the clubs in the league, the board are spineless. They're afraid of "speaking out of turn" and being accused of bringing the game into disrepute. Even if it's absolutely necessary. Until the clubs and their respective boards group together and grow a backbone, we'll continue to see the same "inconsistencies" week in week out.

Incredible take. Even guys like Billy McNeill when he became Aberdeen manager admitted the old firm get the bulk of the decisions. Rangers penalty stats explain it as clearly as anything else does. The reason geography of where refs stay is a consideration is clearly it is much easier to give a decision to clubs and fans of clubs in close proximity due to the neanderthal behaviour of some of their fans some refs are imo petrified of annoying them.

Plus the number of ex refs doing the sportsman lunches gigs more than happy to admit their preference. Did Stubbs not come out with something from an old firm derby?

Indeed, & fitting perfectly the axiom that it's the exception that proves the rule.

I read this morning that Sevco haven't had a penalty awarded against them in an SPL game since Scott Brown retired. Nothing to see here though right enough....

Why are they even top of that as we scored more and are higher up the alphabet than either T or R

They are in the top 2 in 3 out of 7 years since being back up, I thought it would be more. Higher the last couple so might be changing. Usually the teams with most attacks have most penalties so surprised us, Dundee and Ross County top in recent seasons

Start taking points off them, they will soon get it, problem will be stopped, too much namby-pamby nonsense spoken about, not going to change in any country till you start to hurt them.

There was a discussion about this a couple of weeks ago when the poster MWHIBEES got launched. It was his view that players were entitled to get up into referees faces screaming abuse. There's too many who think that way, though in fairness a few of us told him he was talking bollocks. I hope this assault is the catalyst to real change and coming down hard on players crowding referees and the likes of Pep and Klopp too with the discraceful harrassment they give to 4th officials. It'll take the authorities growing a set of balls that personally i dont think they have but if they don't do it after this episode they never will.

Ah but but it's a passionate game.

What these numpties fail to see, that without ref's, even the cheats we have there would be no football.

You can be as passionate as you like about the game, without screaming in the ref's face, punching them or threatening to burn their house down.

That would be the year celtic blew 10 in a row and where so rank rotten they never mounted a challenge for the title which in turn means the currant buns didn't need a lorry of pens to dig them out.
