Spotted this (complete version) being touted on ebay for nearly 700 quid. Can't remember if mine's still in a box somewhere, but I don't think I completed it. The Hibs squad (below) was bound for relegation in the not too distant future...for some reason I can't recall Edwards still being with us in 1979.

If I remember correctly I was two shy from having that full album. I cleared out every penny of my bank account which was money that was from the tradition of crossing a babies hand with silver. I spent a fortune and still never completed it. It taught the 10 year old me an important, if expensive, lesson though. I should have learned the more important lesson of listening to my parents but unfortunately didn't and that seems to have been passed down to my kids. Amazing the value these things have now

That's interesting. I sort of inherited that album from my bro in law. I'll need to dig it out if it's going for that money although I doubt it'll be complete.

PS Alex Edwards moved to Arbroath in 1978.

My first album was Football 78, lost it decades ago, but bought one in pretty good condition on ebay a few years ago for £12. Bought the 2 stickers I needed to complete (Brian Clough & Ipswich team group) for £1 each.

I don't often praise Rangers, and I won't be making it a regular thing, but they sell an album in their club shop and give 8 stickers in every edition of their match programme.

I think it was possible to order specific stickers if you were just a few short?

From memory though they were prohibitively expensive for a primary school kid!

Yeh, my first one was 78 too. I remember the weekly walk down to the newsagents with my 10p pocket money to buy a couple of packets of stickers.

No idea what became of my album but what I do recall was that for the Scottish top flight teams Rangers and Celtic got a double page and the rest just got a single page (or was it maybe only a half page?) so there were just a handful of players shown!

What I liked best about that album was the way the club badge stickers were shiny gold!

Remember going to school with a whole bundle of stickers in the hope of swapping for one to finish of a set . Everyone else always seemed to have the same stickers and were looking for the same one too 😳

There's one on ebay being touted for nearly 4k:

Interesting to see El Salvador and Israel were at that tournament.

I'm a bit bemused to see that according to Wiki Edwards only made 142 appearances for us. Was he injured/suspended a lot?

At my school, when someone completed their album, they'd do a Scatter. Throw all their doubles up in the air in the playground and everyone would fight over them. At that time, 1978/79/80, almost every boy in school collected.
