Is this the best Hibs goal from a free kick by Leigh Griffiths or is there another contender? . Maybe there's one from the past or you just have a different one that you like ? .

Griffiths at Tynie easy. He scored another beauty at Easter Road but it never counted and I’d also say MacDonald should never have been letting it in.

We were right behind the goal that day and as Griffiths was setting up we were telling the keeper to get ready to pick it out. It was the speed of the ball that still astounds me, there was no time at all between Griffiths foot connecting and the ball appearing to burst out of the net towards us. Definitely one of the best I’ve seen.

Riordan scored an absolute beauty at ER when the east stand was being rebuilt. Can’t remember who it was against but I was in the south right behind it and it started away outside the post and came back in right in to the top corner.

It’s mental that we really don’t have anyone that would be classed as good with a dead ball. Free kick or corner. All average or poor.

For me, I have to say its Griffiths at Tynecastle as well, I was at the game too.

Will never forget my mate had gone for a pie and a bovril before the freekick was given. I saw him at the bottom of the stairs as LG was lining up to hit it, absolute bedlam when it went in. By the time my mate made it back up the stairs his pie was a scrunched up ball of pastry in his hand and he was covered in bovril!! :faf:

I have a video of the Griffiths free kick going in right in front of me. There's the usual "this isn't going in, we've lost this game, watch this it won't go in" from me followed by incoherent screaming for a good few mins.

Mikey Weir against hearts, he didn't score it directly but was part of a brilliant 3 man move which worked to perfection. Neil Orr took the free kick but I can't remember who played the next pass to Weir who then chipped in over Smith their goalie.

Was sure it was on YouTube, can't seem to find it

I seem to remember a Jimmy O'Rourke free kick which was taken 3 times and I'm sure Jimmy scored with two of them and the other one hit the bar. The referee kept making him retake it. I think if was maybe against Falkirk at the Dunbar end maybe 1969?

Do any of the players stay behind for a bit to practice there shooting taking free kicks that kind of stuff, that’s what Deek’s and Sparky done, it reaped rewards for both of them.

Always prefer Deeks in the best of our 'modern era' strikers debate.... but the way Griffiths pinged that free-kick against Hearts was something else.

Remember that one. I was in the FF upper. There were folk ducking before it hit the net. Absolute rocket.

Deeks scored some great freekicks. The technique he had was just incredible.

That Griffiths freekick at Tynie is something else. Hard to top that.

We don't even take decent corners. That would drive me insane if I was Monty and id have them all staying for an hour every day just to work on dead ball delivery.

A decent sized 10 year old would've saved it. But it was a decisive goal in a major game that was on a knifes edge, and we won the cup. Much more important than Griffith's at the same end ironically.

Leigh's was obviously a much better strike, but largely unimportant.

Here's the one he scored the following season:

https://www.facebook.com/TheHibsAreHere/videos/joe-mcbrides-superb-free-kick-goal-v-hearts-at-tynecastle-in-1986-stadium-absolu/792477624989801/

A lot closer to goal than Griffiths, but a very deft job to get the ball up, over the wall and dip into the top corner from that distance.

The previous season I think you're right. It was a two late goals, with one of the them being a free kick. I don't think there's any footage of it but from memory both goals were low curling shots. Might be wrong though. As you say, a long time ago. Just remember being glad my mate persuaded me to stay at 2-0 down with only minutes to go.

It's about 2 minutes 40 in...he caught the keeper sleeping for sure.

Our opener was a lovely, fast flowing move and I love that third goal by Benji. Not many players would take their time like that.

King Paddy LC final 1972

Cheeky wee chip ower the wa from Mickey to The King who brought the baw down on his thigh a clever wee shimmy to confuse the Celts defence before sending a glorious fierce volley high into the roof of the net

Followed up with a beautiful assist after a superb overlap sending the ball to exactly where his Holy Cross alumni Jimmy O’Rourke was pointing to where he wanted the ball delivered to enable him to execute the perfect diving header to put the Cabbage into an unassailable 2-0 lead and gain sweet revenge for an embarrassing 1-6 cuffing in the 1972 Scottish Cup Final

He was reacting to Benji tripping up his team mate in the build up, thankfully no VAR back then or would have likely been chopped off.
