Have you played football at any level? These guys don’t need told where to be, that’s why they’re playing for Hibs not the local amateur side.

Incidentally while I’d argue that the ‘proper captain’ thing maybe isn’t as important in football today. Shinnie is the exact person that came to mind when I was thinking what we haven’t had in a while… an experienced midfielder that opposition fans think is a dick.

Whether we need one of those is another matter. I like Newell and really like Levitt.. I take the OP’s point but personally not overly fussed about the proper captain thing.

I definitely don’t think it was the reason for not winning tonight.

I agree with you to an extent, I was saying the same on Saturday that we needed somebody to take control and get a hold of the players.

Don’t think there’s much he could have done tonight though

I agree. I can’t really put it into words either, but whether it’s a captain, a leader or a Scott Brown type I don’t think we have one. That’s not Joe Newell (who I thought was good tonight.)

Quality player. We’ve had Jeggo in there with him generally and he is a communicator and organiser.

I think Newell is a very good choice for captain.
I also think he’s improved since wearing the armband.
The problem is the dross he’s playing with.
In our whole squad, only the likes of ALF and (maybe) Boyle have anything like his footballing intelligence.
If we had a few more on Newell’s level, we’d be more than ok.

Totally agree.

The team lacks an organiser. The shambles against 10 men in the Semi proved that IMO. Our inability to see out games points to this. We also don't get in the refs ear enough.

I am not sure we have the players that follow that type of leader. Whether Newell is the right player even to do that is debatable. Maybe they do need a bawler out there.
