Curious appointment. Surprised he took another management role in light of his health issues.
He'll make them harder to beat.

Surprising quite a few are all right with it 😳 . Didn't read it all yet though thought the post were one says we can't score goals and appoint someone that infamously invented the 6-4-0 formation was good ! 😂😂 .

Tractor Boys FC appoint 🦕 as manager...wow.
Club that has played boring, foul-littered, percentage play, tedious football for years employs perfect manager.

I feel sorry for St J. Certs for relegation and lumbered with a no mark entity. But they’re a grown up club and might see something nobody else does. Good luck to them. On reflection, nah, you make your own bed ……….l:greengrin

In all seriousness I enjoy Levein as a pundit. There I said it.
At least now I can go back to enjoying his every blunder as a manager. You could almost say natural order has been restored!

You know, I wish him well. He's a pantomime villain for us but he's straight up with it. Any of us would be exactly the same, roles reversed. Apart from failings of our own making a few years ago, St Johnstone have never bothered me and if he does well with them, I'm okay with that. Obviously I hope we scud them every match!

Never minded St Johnstone either though with him there I'd be delighted to see them relegated now :greengrin

Young up and coming managers must think what chance they have in the game when dinosaurs like this are still getting jobs at this level.
Contract to 2026 .
That’s the most wild part of it … could have understood if it was just a short contract to steady the ship

So what should older managers do?
I actually agree though if the older guys aren't willing to change and get with the times

We see it all the time down south with the same guys getting the jobs when their CV's are cack, Levein should be nowhere near any SPFL job, I'd also add too many teams sign or promote young coaches when their experience isn't there. The signing of Steven McLean is a prime example, as we've seen ourselves it can be a nightmare getting the correct appointment, we've went from the disaster of experienced Butcher to the waste of time signing of Maloney in recent years.
I should add not all older managers are bad but ones like Levein with his dinosaur tactics and ways of working will struggle in the modern game, Steve Clarke is a great example of an older manager being very good in this modern day.

As others have highlighted, he’s more pantomime villain than hate figure for me, and his media persona is an amiable and self deprecating one. Likeable even!
Now he’s back in the game that attitude may change of course!

I think he comes across well in that too. He's got quite a dry sense of humour and loads of his press conference stuff down the years was him being a total wind up merchant. He's suprisingly self deprecating. He took the natural order stuff blowing up in his face in good humour as well all things considered.
Maybe I'm just going soft.

It changed my opinion of him too.
Our game is better for having pantomime villains in it and he’s set himself up perfectly to be one for us.
I’m glad to have him back over the multitude of duller options they might have gone for.

Was Naismith not one of the ring leader that turned on Nielson along with Snodgrass, if the players have turned on him, all the more pleasing.

Really odd appointment. He's been out the game for a while and wasn't exactly doing well when he was. Also surprised he's put himself back in a pressure situation after his health scare. Bet his Mrs wasn't too chuffed! Actually quite like the guy but all petty football rivalries aside, i hope he gets relegated :greengrin

Young upcoming managers like
Naismith
McLean who they just sacked
Maloney
Cathro
Get your point but I always think when a club tries one way of doing it and it fails they usually revert to something completely different.

That's a good point. We went from Jack Ross who had good experience to Maloney with none. Then JL with hundreds of games in management in England to Montgomery with 60 in Australia. Pretty much one extreme to the other. We'll probably go for Neil Warnock or the like next.

Murray.
Doolan .
If I was a saints fan I'd have wanted Doolan , Levein would have been one of the last names I'd have wanted as manager in fairness , totally uninspiring appointment . His first interview is like the way his team's play ' Boring ' .

All 4 are young coaches with very little experience, Naismith and McLean not long finished playing, Maloney just wrong fit and Cathro hadn't even played to any level.

I actually think it’s a great appointment for St Johnstone. They’re in the **** and can’t afford to take a gamble on another young and unproven manager. He knows the league inside out, he’s got bags of experience, and won’t be too expensive.
We should still beat them comfortably but they’re in an almighty relegation struggle now and he’ll give them some streetsmarts.

I don't think that really matters, look at Mourinho, Thomas Frank at Brentford and Steve Cooper at Forest as examples of those who didn't play at a high level. Cathro was never going to succeed in the set up at Hearts with CL at the helm in my opinion. He's hasn't been short of work since and Nuno seems to think highly of him.
