View Full Version : Team for Tuesday?

LewysGot2

We need to get 3 points. That's vital. However, we also have a possible 120 plus minutes on Saturday in the offing and a fabulous opportunity to get to yet another final at Easter Road West in December.

We'll need to maximise chances of winning on Tuesday but leave something in the tank for the weekend...so who plays against Ross Co?

I think he'll make a few changes but not wholesale ones...and the club backroom team will have all the stats around health and fitness performance to make a call on who might need a rest and who has the legs for both.

Funny feeling ALF might start and there will be minutes for Levitt, Hanlon and Stevenson but not necessarily starting.

Thoughts?

We should play our full strength team on Tuesday.

Aberdeen have a difficult away game on Wednesday night and the semi will be their 4th difficult game in 10 days so they will likely be suffering from fatigue more than us.

Same as yesterday if everyone is fit and recovered. The roles will undoubtedly be tweaked a bit but the personnel was fine yesterday.

Tuesday to Saturday is plenty recovery time and Aberdeen play a day later and have a far more hectic schedule than us at the moment.

We appear to be getting a settled first team.

I'd also go with the same 11 or only make 1 or 2 changes depending on fitness / injuries. Looking at the 3 posts above mine, we're all saying similar.

This has got be a good thing if we're trying to get the squad used to a system. Minimal changes, keeping things simple, with whoever coming in knowing exactly what their role is.

Will be good to see how we do against one of the weaker sides in the league and I'd expect us to win.

I’d go:

Wollacott

Miller
Fish
Hanlon
Obita

Jeggo

Boyle
Vente
Youan

Suspect it’ll be the same as yesterday though, possibly with Jair out and ALF in.

I think he might freshen up a position or two. The one obvious change we could make would be bringing Levitt in. Someone to get on the ball and play some forward passes quickly will be important in this game and he doesn’t mind a shot either.

Need to go and win this game.

I'd be semi tempted to rest Boyle and to find a way to play Levitt given we'll have more of the Ball, but you'd risk meddling too much by bringing in too many changes.

If just basing it on football, he’d come in for Jeggo for me. To be fair, Montgomery must trust him defensively because he’s brought him on for Jeggo at important stages yesterday and at Tynecastle. The way Newell went down first half I was surprised he played on so could be a possibility of him being left out, he’s hardly missed a minute.

Ah yes, I had forgotten about newell going down early on and I was surprised when he continued. Resting him ahead of hampden would be a sensible option and gives levitt important time on the pitch.

Think Newell might be rested as he seems to have had a couple of knocks of late.

I’d be surprised if Jair will start due to playing so many minutes and I think it might be a quick turnaround to start again when he previously had little minutes.

I just wish Mongomery would adopt 433 which would include Levit IMO better option than either Alf or Tavares asking a lot of Jeggo and Newel in centre of midfield but he is to stubborn as 442 seems to be his only style of play.

Would it be a surprise if Whitaker got a start for this one, possibly in the thoughts for a starting spot, surely its only a matter of time for him now to get a start I also think Tavares could start this one as well . Also expecting Simon Murray to get a goal so I hope we can score more than 1

Don't think we can underestimate Ross County. They are well organised & play some nice football. We are not in the position to go out thinking we just need to turn up for the game, we wi l have to put The hard work in to secure all 3 points.
Yes, rest one or two players, (at most), that are carrying knocks but play our strongest fittest eleven.

True. I'll admit I probably thought it would be a piece of piss against Dundee but they surprised me. County will be the same, often have a hard game against them.

Confident the team will be prepared and focused for the task at hand. Buzzing for the game.

I’d go with Levitt, I’m a big fan of Jeggo but they’re going to sit in and try frustrate us, we need the creativity. Levitt can look after himself as well btw, as shown vs Luzern he’s no pushover.

I had thought maybe Jeggo would have been more suited than Levitt physically though your right about in the Luzern game he was no pushover and they will probably sit in against us so maybe abit extra creativity is needed tonight. It's good Monty has good options to choose from too 👍

As much as the team looks a bit better since Montgomery has come in, he's still only won 1 league game in 6. Yes, the last two are against Rangers and Celtic. Hearts away a point isn't the worst. But the Kilmarnock and Dundee results were poor.

If we're looking to still challenge for third, games like tonight have to start being comfortable wins, despite how much people say County are an ok side.

Agreed. This is one of our easier league games and we need to win.

We’re forever saying the league is weak but when we face Ross Co of the likes suddenly we need to be patient and cautious against hard to beat sides!

Well nah. Let’s have a bit of swagger and go into these matches expecting a convincing win for a change.

Kilmarnock was his first game FFS and he'd only been here a few days! Dundee played well and I think have only lost 2 games so far and we played well without putting the ball in the net. Give him a break eh?

Huge game this evening therefore strongest team available. Saturday takes care of itself.

Need to start making inroads on St Mirren - they are away to Parkhead tomorrow night then we play the saints midweek next - not inconceivable that we could only be 2 points behind them after these games...

I think the wins will come hopefully starting tonight. The Sevco game I thought was probably the worst we played , Drawing at Rugby park isn't all that bad a result though after being 2 up it was disappointing I'd grant you that though seeing as it was the managers first game I don't think we can really judge him on it too harshly.

The Dundee game I think on another day we'd have scored 2 or 3 , disappointing result ? , yes though there was lots of positives to take from it too . A point at tiny , beating St mirren in the cup , drawing with Celtic , signs are encouraging.

Totally agree that if we are looking to challenge for 3rd these are the game's we need to be winning ,I'd like to win it comfortably though I'd take a 1-0 or 2-1 right now if offered, as long as we win is the main thing ! . Ross county won't be an easy game tonight though I don't think there are any easy games in the league tbh .

Same. I'm glad Montgomery gave everyone a clean slate and was good to see Jair get a chance instead of written off without knowing. You can get all antsy about it if you want but it’s absolutely correct. We’re finishing up the first round of fixtures tonight and we’ve only won 2. According to Opta, only Celtic and Rangers have more 'high turnovers' than Ross County, so we need to be sharp knocking it about at the back and from these goal-kick routines. Need to be on the front foot as much as possible and pin them back...

Clean sheet v Celtic with Jair wide right and Youan left - Jair isn't the defensive enforcer we've missed wide right that made the difference to Boyle not being there!

In any case, I'm not big on 4-4-2 and would rather we had 3 central

Being perfectly serious, we were much more balanced with Jair out wide. He’s a good player and deserves a run of 5/6 games. In any case though he done more tracking back in one game, albeit against Celtic, than Boyle has done all season. As acknowledged by Montgomery.

Many goals this season have come from our wingers switching off. We need everyone on their game tonight. It’s massive in terms of our league hopes.
