Boyle - Position

Something I’ve been thinking for a while now is about Martins position going forward.

Back from another bad injury and getting old, I think he’s struggled to get past his man a bit at times this season in 1v1’s which is completely understandable for the points I’ve mentioned and also the lack of pre season.

However when he’s went up front I think he’s looked good, sharp and clinical. I think being able to move across the front line and in behind makes him more unpredictable and gives him more options.

Now we’re playing with 2 up top could he partner Vente?

I think Cadden on the right could bring a really good balance to the team even though he’ll likely not be properly match for for months.

Personally don’t believe Boyle is a great finisher, misses more chances than he scores.
I think out wide and supplying the chances for Alf and Vente is his best position.

I'm not really seeing any loss of pace tbh. Against Dundee, Martin was up against a left back who was very rapid, sometimes it happens. He still has the really tight turn and explosive burst which usually takes him away from defenders. He can play up front at a push, but he's much more effective on the wing.

Looking quicker with each game as well in my opinion. Was worried about his pace at the start of the season but he's still got it.

Obita up to left midfield and Stevenson in at left back. Shift Youan across to the right.

Or one of Levitt or Campbell to come in and just play a bit narrower off the right. That said, I’ve got a feeling Levitt will play regardless.

Could also be an argument for shifting Youan up front but it’s been Boyle that he’s moved when he’s done that. I just don’t think he’ll leave either of them out but, equally, I think he’ll look at trying to be a bit more solid, within the same shape, so don’t think the two of them play either side of the midfield four.

Levitt has done nothing to deserve Newell's place tbh. Joe is our best midfielder, maybe our best player. Should be playing his best position above anyone else.

I agree with that but trying to find a way of getting all three in within the 4-4-2 confines that we know will apply.

Personally think Youan and Boyle against Celtic is a big risk. We need to be much tighter. Keep the pace on the pitch but one replacing the other.
