Hi all,

The Hearts game is currently scheduled for the 27th December.

What’s the thinking on whether it will be moved.

Keen to fly up, but know it may be one chosen for TV on the Boxing Day.

Any noise on the grape vine?

Cheers

J

It was chosen for TV right at start of the season.

8pm kick off for Sky.

It won’t be moved again.

Still hoping that gets moved to a night game, how many people still actually get the 2nd off? Seems like madness

I've booked it off with it being a bank holiday would would probably prefer it being a night game as well.

I don’t think the 2nd is a Bank Holiday this year.

The commentary will be busy telling everyone every 5 minutes about various players links to the old firm.

It bugs me every time I watch the highlights from 21/05/16, after stokes first goal, rather than focus on the fact that hibs are 1-0 up in a final where they could end a 114 year hoodoo, the sky commentator instead opts for "it had to be! Anthony Stokes, on loan from celtic, scores against Rangers!" erm hello? We're Hibs and we're actually involved in this too!

It is, but many companies and work places don't give you it these days unfortunately

I’m not 100% sure but I think the banks will be open. Most places will be back to work. Very small minority will have it as a holiday - council mainly.

I’m 100% sure the banks will be open on the 2nd as they follow the English bank holidays.

I don’t think the 2nd is a Bank Holiday this year. The population in Scotland might have missed the announcement if that is the case. Banks don't necessarily take those holidays but 2nd Jan is a Public holiday in Scotland. Businesses choosing to open and staff choosing to work on those days, or have their public holidays converted into annual leave to suit the business is the reason.

No chance. Vast majority will have it off.

It's a holiday in Scotland.

I don't work for a bank, or a scottish company and I get it off.

Who can remember the Xmas derby around 10-12 years ago at the PBS, night time KO? Sure it was a typical 0-0 derby borefest but I've never seen so many steaming people at a game, loads of folk had been in the pub all afternoon (myself included!) There was a drunk Hearts fan staggered down the entire flight of steps in the Wheatfield stand then fell over and smacked his puss hard at the bottom! Sure it was featured on Soccer AM.

I’m not sure how it would be calculated. We both must work in different industries with us being at opposite ends of thinking here.

Financial Services (including Banks), retail, supermarkets will all open. Emergency services, NHS obviously not on holiday either.

That must leave some others that do get the public holiday.

Police staff who work “normal hours” eg Monday to Friday 9-5 are off on 2nd January.

👍🏼 I’m sure there are folk off and others will have holidays booked too. Just seems strange to have a game kick off on a midweek afternoon when it’s “only” a public holiday. They wouldn’t do that at 3pm on the May holiday or the Friday or Monday of the September weekend.

Do they? I wasn’t sure as they used to be open as it’s not a Bank Holiday. Someone earlier said they were 100% sure Banks are open.

My Dad works for Lloyds and hasn't had the 2nd off as standard for years.

Not sure if that is only certain departments though. It's definitely not all bank workers who are off.

Scottish Government site has the 2nd Jan listed as an official Scottish bank holiday:

https://www.gov.scot/publications/bank-holidays/

Probably if its an English based bank then you are more likely to not have a day off.

Royal Bank of Scotland never used to get the 2nd either.

Still maybe folk aren’t too bothered and are used to kick off times being at strange times.

That’s correct. Scottish employees get the 2nd as part of their entitlement but not guaranteed to get that actual day off. If they don’t they can use that holiday on another day

Maybe in the 80s Scotland closed down on a public holiday, nowadays loads of places work as usual. You'll get the holiday entitlement grouped in with your other holidays but will be expected to work unless you ask for that day.

Shops, supermarkets, transport, leisure and tourism, hotels, pubs and restaurants.

Retail is by far the biggest employer in the uk now over 5 million add in the rest and include NHS ect and there will be a lot of people needing to take a holiday for games played on public holidays

Most financial services firms as well nowadays. Not sure what that list leaves but it does feel like most people.

I'd imagine those who don't get the second of January get one of the English bank holidays instead and vice versa.

Nah most will just get it added to their allowance and can take it when they want in the year.

There's far far more people that work midweek than a Saturday in all sectors one factor is childcare. The other thing is we're talking about hibs fans and season ticket holders. They will generally have a working week that is clear Saturday, they might work Sunday perhaps, that can't be said for them getting off a Tuesday afternoon

If childcare is a factor then it doesn’t really affect the 2nd because the schools will all be shut as well.
