I dare say in this context it must mean making something that mirrors something that happened in the past. Fair enough, not something I have seen before.

No it's a joke that's been overused. As you say colourised black and white photos are popular. There's a meme trend called fake history putting things that clearly aren't what they are saying. Like colourised picture of depression era yokel after loosing his crops and it'll be Steven Naismith watching Youans second going in.

I'm too old for the patter but it's definitely what a social media account should be putting out. People on there seem to live it and 50k views in a few hours
