I've got no recollection of this whatsoever.

I can vaguely remember it as a youngster then. Did we not also play a Russian side in the late 80s in a friendly?

Was it a Friday night? Seem to mind it being dark and cold!

Looks like you were right. I was wondering why I wasn't at it, but Friday was BB night, which explains it!

I mind I was given less resistance to going as it wasn't a school night 🤣

And chips on the way home!

Went to both these games and the following pre season did we not play Sevilla. A wee bit of glamour when we never looked like qualifying for Europe.

Jock Wallace managing them and sure they had 2 players sent off.

My recollection of the Feyenoord game was that we now had Gordon Juke Box Durie at the height of his powers in our ranks

After arriving as a raw rough around the edges teenager from East Fife after a preseason spent in the gym and with a sprinting coach he now had the power and upper body strength and was a genuine tour de force

You could see that he was the real deal and with his power and pace he ran the continentals ragged all night and would form a formidable goal scoring partnership with Stevie Cowan

Obviously he had plenty of room for improvement and would go on to play for Spurs Chelsea Rangers Hearts and Scotland

High point scoring a hat-trick against Hearts in a Scottish Cup Final low point coming on for Hearts as a sub in the 6-2 game

I was at both these games, North enclosure for the Moscow Dinamo game, and terracing for Feyenoord. The black players in Feyenoord team were abused throughout the match, monkey noises etc.

Think they also played Rangers as part of their visit to Scotland.

I remember my dad being absolutely freezing but I insisted we stay until the final whistle.

We played Seville home and away but Blackley had been sacked by the time of the away game so it was possibly Miller's first match in charge.

Miller's 1st game was a 0-0 draw at home to Rangers.

Terrific player. He had it all. Pace, power and good in the air. Never quite the same after a bad leg injury IIRC.

He was instrumental in his strike partner Steve Cowan being top scorer in Scotland that season with nearly 30 goals. Cowan's strike rate diminished significantly when Durie left although he did go on to become something of a legend at Portadown, where he scored a barrowload.

They were, by and large. Yet this book is a reminder of some memorable moments:

It was pretty dire especially when you were brought up hearing about the tornadoes from the generation before and the old hibbys going on about the famous five

And Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts (almost :greengrin) winning the league.

Remember Stevie Cowan shouting at the East to shut the f up with the racist nonsense. On a brighter side against Moscow Dynamo everyone was singing "what's it like to queue for bread". Probably the highlight of the 80's.

That’s why those of us who remember it can’t understand some of the modern day angst amongst the support
