Jason Cummings taking this penalty brought back memories of his penalty for us against Dundee Utd in the semi final of the cup even though there entirely different. Thankfully he put things right with his next one though :greengrin

Show me a Hibs fan who didn't think he was going to try another Panenka as he was walking up to take his penalty in that shoot out and I'll show you a liar.

Their keeper certainly did

Seem to remember Stubbs missed it and when he came and asked what happened, he was told ' you don't want to know ' 😂

He missed one of the goals as he was in the bog I’m sure

I really hope he doesn't regress now he's not working under Montgomery again.

It was far from a crisp strike, and the keeper not moving suggested either he was anticipating another Panenka or just had no idea what he was going to try next!

What a guy. Scores 2, including a last minute winner, either side of that pen lol. Never a dull moment with JC35.

Didn’t know he was playing in India. Wasn’t he one of the top scorers in Oz , hence getting in the World Cup squad ?

Yeah he was, think potentially second to MacLaren.

Rumours he’s getting 10k a week over there though.

I really hope he doesn't regress now he's not working under Montgomery again.

Having followed his progress since he first came to Oz I commented how Jason Cummings had matured and was no longer the daft laddie.

His career flourished, but now I wonder just what possessed him to do that?

Almost see it as a regression.

To be fair I doubt it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing on Cummings part.

I’d love to see him back at Hibs but I think he’ll sign for Hearts if and when he comes back.

That’s the worry……I thought he was finished with the ‘ daft laddie look at me’ stuff.

Think that’s quite harsh. I am sure he and his teammate would have spoke about this routine in training. It never worked out but hardly him giving it the big I am.

They’ll be gutted it never worked.

Totally agree. Should have been retaken as well. Defender is about five yards in the box when Cummings rolls the ball.

If NM is still at Hibs at that point, he chooses us over them I think (hope)

Dunno how you can be sure about that.

He didn’t speak about taking the paneka in the league cup semi at Hampden against Dundee United when he put it over the bar.

Agree it should have been retaken though…..players from both teams encroached.

I'm pretty sure they would have to have spoken about it beforehand. Otherwise how would he know there would be someone following in from that direction and would be switched on enough to go for the ball. There was a video doing the rounds last week of another game where this was done. The player who it was laid off to did get there first but then made an absolute erse of the shot.

The mature thing would have been to not consider it in the first place.

Glad he got a couple of goals but if he got a roasting off the manager after, that may be the best thing for him.

At best it was idiotic.

This was an Asia Cup match and his team were only leading 1-0.

If he had done this playing for Hibs in a Uefa cup match,(the equivalent of the AFC Cup) pretty sure we would all be ropable.

He's here!

He got flak from the manager when he joined the club for apparently turning up unfit.

Quite surprised he moved from Australia, where as you say he really seemed to have flourished. I guess it came down to money?

I take my hat off to Jason Cummings.

He had a hard start in football, picked up a serious injury and was jettisoned by Hearts. Went back to playing juveniles then got picked up by Hibs. Thrown in at the deep end and missed a penalty that played a part in send us down. Regrouped and banged in goals for us and earned his big move. It all went a bit wrong for him after that and he didn't seem to deal with it well. Flitted about a bit and at that point it would have been easy to stay in Edinburgh with his daft pals, continue to drift downwards and end up as a lower league journeyman before pitching up in the Lowland League in 5 years time. Instead he took a risk, went across the world and really grabbed his 2nd/3rd/4th chance with both hands; if he's earning big bucks in India now then good on him.

He's a bit mental, might even be a bit of a d*** if we are being honest but if you took that away from him I think you lose what he is all about as a player. He loved scoring against Hearts and played up to their fans. Rangers fans hated him when he was with us but were singing his name when they signed him and it hurt us to see him there. I like players that opposing fans love to hate, it only happens to the good ones.

That penalty he tried is daft, I'd be going radge if Hibs tried it but then a player that does that also has the arrogance to try other things that do come off. It's one of those things you sometimes have to accept with a bit of a maverick.

If you look at his lengthy CV, Hibs and the Mariners are the only spells of his career where he's enjoyed stability/consistency - and has earned big money moves off the back of those spells.
