The guy took some pelters at the end of last season, and the start of this, with good cause.

He however deserves a lot of praise for how he’s performed since Montgomery took over. Made several crucial saves in the past week alone. He looks confident, and at the age of 38, he looks like he’s got a swagger again.

Keep it up, Marsh!

Was saying that on Saturday, he’s picked up again. Pleased to see.

New goalkeeping coach has probably made a difference, plus a manager who knows how to motivate and talk to the players.

Amazing what people will read into when they either like or don’t like a manager.

He’s a good, experienced keeper who has gone a few games without making a big mistake. I think that’s about as much as we can say about it.

TBF, seeing as under the old regime he had chocolate wrists and made several stinkers in a relatively short space of time, it's not a huge leap to say that he's enjoying life a bit more under Montgomery and it's showing.

He made some great saves under Johnson.

So is it ok to say the outfield players have played better since LJ left? Is it just the goalie we can’t say that about?

:agree: I'm starting to think this Montgomery is the second coming the way people are going on. Mad how a manager can come in and in only a few weeks change the game of a 38 year old former Scotland keeper.

‘This Montgomery’.

Weird way to speak about a guy that’s been at Hibs for a good few weeks now.

I think sometimes there can be a risk that goalkeeping coaches almost neglect their more experienced keepers. Obviously they need less coaching than a young lad like Murray Johnson say but allowing them just to tick over can see performance levels drop. It happens, if a keeper releases an autobiography then I'll read it and several of them admit it happens.

It's easy to underestimate just how important the goalkeeping coaches role is. There's a reason managers often take their favoured coaches with them. Derek McInnes made removing a legend like Jim Leighton his first act at Aberdeen to bring in Colin Meldrum. At a far higher level Jose Mourinho took Silvino Louro with him every time he moved from his time at Porto through to Manchester United. He's since taken Nuno Santos with him from Spurs to Roma. Emery has taken Francisco Garcia with him every time he has moved club, again at Aston Villa he replaced a very popular guy in Neil Cutler.

Marshall had a horrendous time of it in the 2nd half of last season and that carried into this season. In the last few weeks he has looked much better; it's not just that he has cut out the mistakes, he just looks more assured and confident again. It's all a bit of guesswork but maybe freshening up his training and having a coach who is well versed in what the manager wants from his goalkeeper has played a part. Whatever it is, long may it continue.

Think he has been protected better by what's in front of him. Defo seeing much less of the ball.

We are defending better overall, and Marshall's definitely improved. He got away with missing a cross completely against St Mirren though, which if St Mirren had got the break of the ball, folk would have absolutely slaughtered him for.

Hopefully he keeps up the improvement and plays a big part in a successful season.

That's the fine line of it really, as most keepers in our league aren't going to produce 90 flawless minutes.

Carson came away as near enough man of the match, yet he and the Dundee defence looked like they couldn't defend a set piece to save themselves in the first half.

I’m sure in his first interview, Montgomery said that he had played in the same team as Marshall a few years back and really rated him. Seems marsh is reacting positively to NM

L. J. Is gone, gone, gone, and Montgomery is a breath of fresh air no one is claiming him to be the messiah.

i doubt very much there's any coaching needed for David Marshall, he's just got his mojo back :agree:

I think NM just sprinkled some magic dust on him and no one is going to convince me otherwise.
