Would normally agree, but Celtic are so rich and up themselves that I don't think they even bother looking at other players in Scotland these days. Weakening the opposition was always part of Celtic's signing strategy, but Hibs are no threat to them these days. Nothing to see here.

His first time pass to Boyle in the first half was absolute class and cool as a cucumber for his finish.
The funny thing about him is that he doesn't really have huge presence about him, some strikers you are looking out for all the time, but Vente isn't the biggest or the strongest, you sometimes forget he's on the pitch and next thing you know he's scored. If he continues like that we could make a mint off this guy when the time comes.

Vente is going to be vital going forward.
I would like him to come a bit deeper sometimes to collect, retain the ball then move it on. If he can do this effectively, this will pull the opposition central defenders out of position and leave their full backs exposed to the pace we have with Boyle & Youan out wide.
He took his goal brilliantly yesterday. Much as some on here are looking for him to score 20 - 25 goals a season, we have so much threat up front that if he gets even 10 -15, with Youan and Boyle around 10 each we have a very good attacking three.
When you add Le Fondre who will pitch in with a few it's looking not too bad.
If Vente comes deep we could do with an attacking midfielder who can score. We do have Campbell. It's up to him to step up and prove consistently he is good enough. If he can there is a place in the side for him, if not an attacking midfielder needs to be added to the shopping list along with a left back and central defender.
Many on here were.
Many of them wrote him off without even having seen him play, just because he was coming from the A League, and was 36.

Let's not go overboard with Miller. He's done well last couple of games but he's still got a lot to do defensively and positionally. We're still currently sitting 6th so the team, as a whole including Miller, need to continue that improvement.
The signs are Montgomery can have a big impact on that.

Anyway back to Vente.
He’s a quality finisher and the club should take great plaudits in bringing him in. He’s a level above the man he replaced in the finishing stakes.
Him and ALF look a potent combo and I’m really keen to see how we can get the ball into them better and quicker and more often. The more they play the more they will improve as a pairing as well.
Think he has a bit to go with regards to when to drop and get involved but honestly I don’t think I care as he looks like he’ll sniff out a chance or two every game and when he does he’s invariably scoring them! Anything else is just a bonus.
Let’s hope we get him to sign an extension before the season is out as at this rate I’d love for him to stick around for some time yet (or land us a few million instead!)

It was just a response to the post about folk suggesting Miller might not be to standard.
Over the course of his time with us I think that's a fairly strong argument that can be made, the last few games don't change that. He's needs to keep on doing what he's doing, which hopefully under Montgomery he will.

He's slotted in to Scottish football seamlessly. I don't think that's an accident. There were a lot of British clubs after him for a reason. He's sharp, intelligent and had good strength on the ball. Early days but looks a top player.
I watched a lot of videos where he scored from about the same position he did yesterday and I thought he's not going to get chances in our league like that!
Well our forwards seem to have ripped up the Scottish attack manual and are scoring left, right and CENTRE 😆
Any thoughts as to why he's not done a full 90 minutes? He's looked fit enough.

He hadn’t played for 4 weeks by the time he made his debut so was playing catch up a wee bit and you had to account for the Lee Johnson selection bingo.
Think now it’s just down to us having options an freshening things up as we go.

Monty said that he wanted players to give everything and he didn't expect everyone to last 90 minutes, with 5 subs he needed folk to knock their pan in for 70 and he could make subs.

He seems to pop up all over the park, would like to see his heat map. All 5 forwards have actually been putting in a shift, more noticeable under Montgomery as we seem to hold the ball longer but they were putting on a shift beforehand too.
And then Vente seems to have that knack of finding the space in the box.
Thought Miller missed the chance to pick him out originally but they didn't pick him up and seemed to have all the time in the world to score. More to come.

Not sure about Doidge’s hold up play being better ?
I am sure Vente has played and can play as a lone striker
There have been a few occasions already where he has put on a deceptive turn of pace to beat a defender to a lost cause and has always managed to protect the ball until others catch up with play and his wee flicks are sublime
In the early games Vente was peeling back for cutbacks from our wingers that never came as they opted to go alone
Now that Vente is fully up to speed Alf Youan and Boyle are certainly looking out for him more under Monty
As you rightly say 5 goals from 5 shots on target is no too shabby

I think I'm right in saying all 5 of his goals have been scored in the box .
After watching st johnstone, Killie and st mirren games I don't think we have really given him enough service or created much in the way of chances for him . His 5 goals have came from assists from Alf (2) , Youan (2) and Miller 1.
Some good players don't create to many of there own chances especially your poacher , fox in the box though if you create chances and provide the service for them they will score goals . Don't think it's lazy to blame the service tbh , with better service in games it's quite possible Vente will get us more goals .

Early signs are extremely encouraging. I'm not going to let myself get too excited just yet but he is a talented natural predator. Let's hope he can maintain it and turn into a 25-30 goal season with plenty of assists as well. Link play has given Doidge a new lease of life as well so there's a 'Brucey Bonus' !

I never took to Kamberi even during his trial period, although I did want to sign him permanently. It was weird, but there was just something about him that didn't ring true.
This lad, however, strikes me as the real deal. His workrate to help the team is excellent, he's patient and doesn't throw hissy fits when he's not getting the service he might like, and he's deadly in front of goal.
I'm sure there were some highlights of him scoring goals from outside the box. The way we're playing means he won't get a lot of opportunities to shoot from longer range, but I'd love for him to have a go.

Enjoyed that, thanks for sharing. I know it’s hardly going out on a limb to say this, but i think Vente is a real find for us. It usually takes strikers a wee while to properly find their feet in the league but he got off to a flyer so hopefully there’s more to come.

Does any one know how we find out the total goals scored in all competitions this season.
The BBC only list league goals (ah ken, I could go onto the Hibs website and look, but is there somewhere that lists Scottish goal scorers, including cup games?).
His name is Dylan Vente, he's gauntae score us plenty.

Really hammers home just how important Brian McDermott has become at the club.

I think one of the really, really encouraging things for us as a club is that he has been a made to measure replacement...maybe even an upgrade on Kevin Nisbet. Nisbet was a good buy and he improved as a player during his time at Hibs, then was sold at a profit. I must admit I thought we would have to go through the same process with his replacement..buy someone young with potential and hope we can improve them, until they want to move on. That's not the way it has panned out. In Vente we have paid for someone who is already on at least the same level and if anything seems to have an even better mentality than Nisbet. If he stays injury free and keeps scoring at his current rate, it will be amazing. Great bit of business and the backroom team at Hibs should be given a lot of credit.

Yes it does, but bear in mind Ian Gordon ,when in the recruitment post tried to sign Dylan a year or so ago,but the asking fee was too high at the time .
Ian did ok , despite the doubters back when he was appointed.

Yep - he had the right idea - just needed some experienced help on the football side. Just like Ben did too. Good set up now.

Ian Gordon’s commitment to spending money on exciting attacking talent for Hibs is hugely endearing.

For all the stick Ian Gordon has got over the past 18 months, he’s also done/been part a lot of good work
Elie Youan
Dylan Vente
Harry Clarke
Dylan Levitt
Will Fish
CJ Egan Riley
Jimmy Jeggo
Lewis Miller
Mykola Kuhkarevych
With Obita, ALF and the rest of this seasons signings to hopefully go with them.
Some will be more Gordon and some more Johnson, Mcderrmot and soon to be Montgomery. However they all have a say so I put all players in that have impressed.
I think Mcderrmot will prove to be the much needed balance we desired, he’ll see the good players Gordon and the recruitment teams finds and we able to weed out the Bojangs of the world
Even the guys that haven’t quite hit it off - Melkersen, Henderson, Kenneh are all out on loan and doing really well by all accounts and are still very young. Montgomery might see something he likes.
A fit McKirdy will hopefully be like a new signing too.

A hard and willing worker always prepared to run the channels and work his socks off for the team
Looks to be a cool calm and composed finisher anytime he is presented with a chance so I wonder what he is like at penalties ?
In the hurly burly of the game he often looks like a false nine playing in the hole behind his striking partner and Boyle and Youan so I would like to see him getting on the end of more balls into the box to increase his goals return
I have noticed in the last couple of games Boyle and Youan do seem to be looking out for his runs more
An upgrade on Nisbet
Looking forward to Saturday
