Didn't make game - but just watched highlights. (which I realise are very limited.

My observations.

Pitch is horrific - always been bad but has deteriorated beyond some public astro pitches. Whats the point in clubs paying upward of £100k for VAR to improve the game when playing it of such a shambles of a bobbly surface.

Formation? - looked on paper like 4-4-2 but players right form the start were much more fluid and interchanging particularly in the front 4 positions.

Good potential 'assist' balls from Yohan on several occasions as well as the real one for Vente second.

Rocky out of centre and missing at both goals looking weak on both times in the challenge (one leading to cross where he did not get back for second ball and the other where he conceded corner leading to goal)

Miller looking much more adventurous and forward thinking - good 'goal' from him..... however he lost his man for header at second goal

For me the first goal is just too big a gap in the heart of our defence which I wouldn’t point specifically at Rocky and more as a collective.

But the goal comes from a midfield runner jogging into our box and getting a shot away under no pressure.

Eh? Why do you think there's a massive chasm in the centre of our defence? It's cause Rocky is dicking about near the left touchline.

I like Rocky, but his positioning needs major work.

Dicking about or putting pressure on the ball and backing up Stevenson?

How did the ball end up in that area to begin with? Genuine question as I missed how it got there. The fact Vassel was the one out wide makes me think Rocky followed his man out there.

Say he was needlessly out of position, that doesn’t mean his mistake enables the rest of the team to not react and fix it.

We were 3 against 2 in the box. Imo fish should have been a couple of yards closer to Rocky to narrow the gap a bit snd most importantly, someone should track Lyon’s who jogs into our box completely unmarked

You've seen the highlights back right? Rocky Goes out wide to go with Vassell, who loses the ball. Rocky then stands out wide, making no attempt to get back into position, the ball then falls to Vassell, the player Rocky was supposed to stop, who scores.

It's terrible defending.

Rocky dear oh dear.

How on earth he got dragged out so wide for the first goal and lack of desire to get back in centrally was criminal.

Simply not good enough.

The highlights I’ve saw only starts when the ball is in the corner to begin with so doesn’t explain why he is out there.

Rocky actually jogs back into the middle with vassel, he’s just unfortunate the save goes a couple of yards further out and lands at Vassell’s feet.

I can accept Rockys part in the goal (from what I’ve saw), but no midfielder picking up Lyon’s is criminal imo.

From what I’ve saw Rocky has a reasonable excuse for being there, why is Newell there?

Team mates need to cover if you get pulled out of position, which happens every game

I think we're probably both right. Brutal defending initially and no cover from the midfield.

I'm sure Monty will highlight it to the team and make sure it doesn't happen ad easily again.

Watching these hightlights one would think Kilmarnock done absolutely nothing until we went 2 ahead and that we done absolutely nothing after we went 2 ahead.

Some nice stuff in the first half. Fast and purposeful.

I thought Marshall could have better for their first goal. His reactions are just not up to it anymore. Hope Montgomery recognises that this needs to be addressed.

Exactly. Great post.
Players need to move over and cover

Most folk blaming Rocky for first goal and yes he didn’t do well but to me Stevenson and Newell also culpable in particular Stevenson.

He naively jumped in and let the ball past him far to easily up near the half way line which meant Rocky and Newell had to drift to the left back area to cover.

Stevenson gets back and is standing shoulder to shoulder with the Killie boy who he gives all the time in the world to slide the ball in for the oncoming player who Newell had left to cover Stevenson.

It was an easy opportunity for Stevenson to block and he is basically just holding the attackers hands as if about to dance with him.

He should have just put the ball out the park or at least put a strong challenge on the boy.

The age old problem of allowing balls into our box raised its head again.

We had four round the guy and Rocky should’ve shiuffled back into position.

Rocky at second should’ve just put out for a throw.

Pretty sure Monty recognised Stevenson’s frailties and hooked him.

Think Hanlon if fully fit or maybe even Harbottle will be in next week.
