Lots of them. Clear plan for what he wants to do. Trying to pass the ball - no more (or at least less) hoofing. Fast attacking football (in the first half at least). Nice touch by the manager at the end to make sure the players applauded the fans.

Obviously negatives too - they've already been pointed out. But I for one feel pretty optimistic.

Finally someone that has watched the game. I took a lot of positives from the game, team looked well setup, good energy from the start and completely dominated until we went 2-0 up

Pleased to see Jair get a few minutes. But quite as finished at the club as we thought.

Pleased Vente got on the scoresheet and a few more to come we all hope. Thought Youan looked a different player and kept it simple at times.

Was nice to see some 1 or 2 touch football.

Vente really seems the type that will score if given half a chance.

Really important to try players around him and for him to get on the ball in and around the box.

Some very good linkup play from him too

Definite positives to be taken. Must follow it up with wins in these three home games.

Agreed. First half and until we went 2-0 up we played very well and we’re comfortable. Lost a goal from nothing and panicked a bit after that. I thibk also the midfield looked a bit tired towards the end but overall a decent performance

Attacked with purpose and created enough chances to win the game in the first half.

Don’t know how much effect it has on the team in the grand scheme of things but I liked seeing a manager who was out on the touchline animated and constantly encouraging/demanding more from the players.

Thought we played pretty good stuff. Then when we scored the 2nd we completely lost our way and the bad side of this Hibs side (mainly defensively) starting slicing at everything and it all turned ragged. But first half we played some good stuff on a difficult surface.

We really need a younger more mobile left back and invest the sort of fee we’ve spent on top end of pitch on a centre half.

CB
LB
CDM (upgrade on Jeggo)

Are the 3 positions of priority id say. Might be time to look at some of younger lads upcoming in those roles

Glad Vente scored and seemed to be absolutely delighted with it. Hope and think he will kick on now.

Thought Melkersen and McKirdy both badly needed a goal and the longer it went on the worse it seemed to get for them, so glad Vente already has a few for us.

Just needs to get involved more or probably more accurately, we need to learn to see and hit his runs earlier.

He already has three right? 1 in Europe, 1 in the cup and 1 in the league, that's not too shabby at all

Positives (tho' mostly for the neutral):

Watch five Hearts league games and see a total of 6 goals

Watch five Hibs league games and see a total of 19 goals.

Aw I don't think it's a bad return on goals, far from it. It's impressive and why I said it's a positive he scored today given the little he's had on the training ground and already onto his second manager here.

He'll be our top scorer come the end of the season.

If we had someone standing at the back post after going two goals up it would have been 6 points out of 6 in two tough away games IMO

Or Rocky just defends properly/taps it out for a throw for their second instead of looking for a foul that was never a free kick.

This.

Individual errors from him at both goals.

Listening to the radio on the way back Kevin, formerly of this parish, Voldemort Thomson asked why Rocky played and played LCB. He suggested that it was either a mistake in terms of the line up or that Hanlon was carrying something that couldn’t be risked on that tyre field. Think he might be right…we used to avoid playing Daz on surfaces like that towards the end of his career for the same reasons

Very true Rocky was at fault there, as much as a point on the plastic pitch would have looked ok before the game, that goal that was conceded after going 2 up was a soft one that let them get back into the game and it could have been prevented with switched on defending.

Thought the first half we were good . Doidge looked good and worked hard before going off . Worthy of a contract extension maybe? .

Thought Jeggo played well too Dylan Vente took his goal well and I think if we create chances for him he will score goals , he looks like a striker that will be clincal for us .

4 points out of 6 in two hard away fixture's isn't bad . Think we will improve in the coming weeks under Monty too .

Lots of positives and any player can make a mistake.
Some folks in here have very very low threshold for error.
Think the surface contributed, absolutely terrible, should be better than that in the SPL. A sound start if a little disappointed not to get all the points.
I feel positive about the season ahead.

Give me this over Johnson ball. Mowbray mk2. Buckle in

Positives:- In his first game, the new Manager would be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad.

We moved to ball quickly with purpose. Lots of good interchange / play middle to front. Good easily have been 4 up early. The first half was great to watch. Lots to work on.

Not sure he would be able to do that on that pitch to be honest. He will have been given pointers but over 90 mins and on that surface it would only be that. :greengrin Based on that 90 mins Newell might never play again. :greengrin

Was Mowbray's first (home?) game not when we were 3-1 up against Dundee, playing excellently, and drew 3-3? You could still tell it was going to be a happy period.

I have a similar feeling now - not that Montgomery is a new Mowbray, just that it's going to be positive and entertaining.

Said after the game that it just reminded me of Mowbray. Clear way we’re going to play and that will be that. It’ll rarely change which will probably cost us at times but I think it’ll work far more than not.

Home games will be interesting because the crowd are going to have to get used to us doing things a bit differently the way we want to play the ball out.

Can't remember if that was Mowbrays first game but we were 4-1 and had a wonderful goal to make it 5-1 ruled out incorrectly for offside. Then it all started to go wrong!

Much better shape! It felt to me that the players understood what they were being asked to do.

He obviously wants our central defenders more involved in starting the moves forwards, which they did on most occasions. However, be aware that the boo boys at Easter Road might not appreciate the more riskier moments. I can just hear "Marshall FFS just clear the ball".

Key to our plan is the central two in midfield and I thought Jeggo started the game really well.

The start to the game was impressive too. You could tell that the players were up for it from the start.

Good introduction to Scottish Football for Monty.

It will be interesting to see how Jair improves under Monty. It's clear that our previous manager didn't rate him, so was a surprise to me seeing him so involved in the pre-match warm-up (he was training with the 10 outfield players in their group rather than the subs group) and getting game time too.

The half time subs warm-up seem better structured.

If the performance reflected by the team in first half is a sign on how NM wants us to move forward then he will win the support of the fans sooner rather than later, its been a while since i actually enjoyed a game. typical hibs collapse, however 4 from 6 away points and a chance for the manager to see how we react when under pressure is learning point

Mowbray’s first home game was a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock but our play that day was refreshing and exciting for the future. Everyone felf positive afterwards……well apart from the usual suspects no doubt.:greengrin

There was an improvement in our corners(attacking!) good deliveries from Boyle and varied the type of crosses, obviously some work done on this, not before time. Need to go and work on defending corners now.

A few tweaks clearly needed but overall I thought we looked really sharp going forward.
Defence obviously still a massive issue along with finding the right blend in midfield.
If NM is able to successfully work on these things we could still have a decent season.
Not going to have a pop at individual players as that has been comprehensively covered by other posters.

First 50/60 minutes we were really good and played some nice one touch stuff. I’m still a little bit worried about the 442 shape he seems to favour. I’d prefer 3 in the middle but plenty of positives to take with 3 winnable home games coming up.

Positives maybe - from highlights looked like we had more than enough chances to win game in the first half. But same issues in terms of not being able to defend - this time a two goal lead. Almost lost the game in the end.

No way Johnson would've been cut much slack on this.

Big difference is Monty has inherited what he has. Johnson would have been cut a lot less slack because he assembled it and failed to address the issues.

Based on performance this season under Johnson, it’s unlikely we’d have had the two goal lead to throw away in the first place

That’s because Johnson had three transfer windows and we’d gone backwards by the end. NM deserves the same chance to improve the team.

Yep. I think as much as our defence are conceding poor goals they have all shown in the past they are capable of performing to a higher level than they are now so hopefully NM can get them organised as we are able to score goals. 2 good home games to head into now where we need the points.

Saw enough yesterday to suggest he will improve what we have. There’s actually a plan and that was sadly lacking previously.

Hopefully Youan is all right, that would probably force him to adapt things a bit if he’s out.

Played them off the park with good movement snd passing first half They really struggled to cope with our play and weren’t in the game much Tve downside is we really should of scored more
Boyle Youan both involved in lead up to vente goal and he took it well
