I notice that in official stuff from club they are referring to Nick Montgomery as 'Head Coach' - is this a deliberate thing? Does it show a progression of the structure so that as was said few years ago it does not entail everything being changed at club when 'Manager' changes?
LJ seemed to be referred to a bit more interchangeably between Manager and Coach:confused:
Oops, that ended up on the wrong thread somehow

LJ was appointed as manager. Montgomery is appointed as the head coach.
I do think it’ll be a different role. LJ will likely have been given more freedom than Montgomery will I’d imagine.
Wonder if Montgomery might not have nearly as big a say in recruitment as LJ did?

A couple of years ago Arsenal changed Arteta’s role from head coach to manager and in that statement it gave a pretty decent description of the difference. I imagine the exact details will vary slightly from club to club but this is how they explained it.
"So in terms of how that will work, going forward Mikel will join a really strong team with Edu (Sporting Director) and they'll be working really, really closely together to manage all the other elements of our football operations that are so important, whether that is analysis, recruitment, high performance or medical, they'll be looking after those areas together.
"And they'll also together be responsible for our technical recommendations, whether that's players that we're going to buy, whether that's players that we're going to sell, whether that's players that we're going to loan.”
I think for us in short it means that for now Montgomery will have a lot less say in recruitment than LJ did.

Well at least its good I didnt make it up :greengrin...
I think the amount of disruption when Managers changed in the past has been problematic... things like academy work on a much longer cycle than the lifespan of Most Managers. Also it means that more concentration can be on 1st team with head coach and not spread thin will all the other stuff than can be delegated to others. If you are giving players 3-4 year contracts they are going to play for more than 1 person so I personally think the change could be really important for us to have this different structure and develop more of a whole club identity that any coach is recruited to fit.. rather than a new Manager that wants to change everything...
Probably also explains why some of the MSM mates club managers did not get the gig
