Reading this article on St Johnstone , its a massive amount of money they lost for a club there size and with a real danger of relegation this season it's must be really worrying time for the saint fans . I've never minded St Johnstone tbh .

Livingston another club that posted financial losses i read were hoping to get financial investors from America though some of the shareholders seem to be blocking or holding it up for some reason !

Are most Scottish clubs taking financial losses these days? Are there any in danger of the situation getting worse ? St Johnstone , Livvy , partick and Inverness are all club's we have heard of that's had financial losses .

Personally I don't like to see clubs in Scotland struggling bar one or two , think it's not good for the Scottish game and a situation thats definitely a worry for Scottish football as a whole .

St Johnstone and Livi don't have core supports big enough to sustain professional football in the modern climate imo. There's very few clubs in Scotland who do. I suspect we'll be having some talks soon about changes.

No sympathy. Livi especially, what have they gone "bust" about three times now??

Only the lack of money overall in Scotland enables the likes of St Johnstone and Livvi to achieve and maintain their status as premiership clubs. The TV and prize money they get enables them to stay reasonably competitive, if it wasn't for that their tiny fan bases would see them struggling in the lower reaches at best.

I've no great love for Livvy either though when I hear a club like Livvy, St Johnstone or so in some sort of financial trouble I always seem to think on there fans who I have respect for following there team . It's all to easy nowadays to jump on the glory band wagon of the old firm which sadly many are doing.

It all goes back to having too many pro/semi pro clubs for the size of the population. There’s even more trying to scramble up the ladder. That’s ok but the ladder is far too big with far too many clubs on it. Long term it’s unsustainable.

When you look at clubs like Falkirk who are scrabbling about in the middle of the third tier, there are a few too many clubs that are badly run or are being too ambitious in the sort of club that they are trying to be.

When part time clubs like Arbroath, Alloa, and even Cove Rangers are run well they’re capable of taking up places in the Championship. I find it telling that now Cove are a full time club, they are really toiling.

A fair few clubs would be better going part time.

Too many ugly sister chasers in Scotland! E.G, I have seen more the Rangers and Celtic strips since moving into Dunfermline than I have Dunfermline strips. It is appalling as Dunfermline are a great club and, I cannot understand why people in the North & East central belt would support either of the twin cheeks! Growing up in Gracemount, I recall, a token Rangers and Celtic fan the rest of us were all Hibs and Hearts fans. Luckily all my boys are Hibees!

I'm sure I have been reading threads like this for years and nothing has changed yet.

Fife is OF central, then a bit of Hibs, Hearts with the balance spread among the local clubs.

Out of interest, for those living in Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian and so on, do you find that local Old Firm fans adopt Glasgow accents despite having never lived anywhere near the place?

My home town in the Borders suffers from this perplexing phenomenon.

The first article does end by saying that St Johnstone has cash reserves of £4.56 Million, so not completely gloomy.

I'm not sure about the accents but certainly in Kirkcaldy they embrace all things Rangers /Celtic as if Glasgow born and bred, strange.

Many folk forget we are only 2 years on from a world pandemic that put a massive strain on the economics of our clubs and which has been followed up by crazy fuel prices for energy thirsty stadium lighting and under soil heating. Fortunately they all somehow made it out the other side of the pandemic but they will still be suffering the consequences.

Falkirk and Inverness were indeed in trouble but both were able to get things back under control last season with timely lucrative Scottish Cup runs.

Away supporters of our 5 biggest clubs continue to play an important part in the finances of the other 7 clubs in our top league. As for St Johnstone and Livingston, they have already adjusted their budgets to bring their finances back into line.

Generally chasing success by spending beyond their means for sustained periods is what caused Scottish clubs problems in the past and that happily appears to be a thing of the past.

I really hope the club formerly known as rangers keep following this business model.

Go yourself Sevco, you know it makes sense!

I’m amazed this is the first we’ve heard of financial trouble this year tbh.

At my work our energy bill went from about £350 to £1100 overnight, a similar story to many of our outgoings. Our income has actually been at record breaking levels but there’s less than ever left over at the end of the month, simply due to rising costs across the board.

When our fuel bill went that way, whilst it was painful I was just grateful I wasn’t having to heat a swimming pool or turn on under soil heating, which must cost a fortune.

Whilst there have been good figures on healthy attendances at football I’ve been wondering how clubs will balance the books. Fortunately, the better run ones like St Johnstone will have put some money away for a rainy day, you’d expect. Unfortunately there aren’t all that many well run clubs out there, with that money having been long since used to pay off a management team or make that essential extra signing that would make all the difference…

Let's face it, the whole of the UK is ****ed. The economy is not big enough to sustain even basic levels of our social infrastructure. Sad times.

Said it before on here and as harsh as it sounds that’s just tough titties for the likes of St Johnstone and Livi but I suppose it’ll give them more excuses for giving the Old Firm three stands a piece. Between them they bring absolutely next to nothing to the league, pish supports home and away and in Livingstons case that holocaust of a pitch. It’s no exactly a ringing endorsement for the product of Scottish football seeing either Almondvale or McDiarmid Park live on tele. The quicker the likes of Dunfermline and Falkirk (ideally minus their crappy pitch) get their ***** in gear and up the leagues all the better for the top flight.

Kilmarnock's pitch is not exactly a bowling green either.
