Mrs just gave me permission to go for a few days!!

Started having a look at dates/airports/hotels etc

Thought a little thread with suggestions/ideas may be a good idea so as many hibees as possible can make the most of a few days away!

So far… it’s a 17 hour drive to Berlin which might be do-able but rather not!

Not checked flight prices but it looks like most airports have flights to Germany!

Anyway, planes, trains, automobiles! Let’s see what everyone is thinking!

I'm flying BA Edinburgh to London then onto Frankfurt. Arriving the day of the 1st game and there until the day after the 1st round of group games so will definitely be there for one Scotland game. Booked into a hotel in Frankfurt for the duration and just going to base ourselves there. In the ballot for tickets so will travel if we get tickets for a game and also to wherever Scotland are playing, no chance of tickets for that but will take in the day.

Flights were just over £220 return so just took the plunge.

Looks like you will have to be quick. Had a look on booking.com, an example 7 nights in dortmund near westfalenstadion...over £4k!!!. The more teams look like qualifying...the prices will rise. Apparently fans are booking hotels in 4 or 5 different locations and planning to cancel when actual venues are confirmed which is pushing prices up even more.

Agreed prices will rocket. Im celebrating a big number in February and im celebrating in Berlin. Flights for 2 and 2 nights accom in a decent hotel for just over £500 Berlin for a capital City is usually pretty reasonably priced but they are bound to cash in for the Euros. Same everywhere tho it cost me over £200 to stay in a Premier Inn for the Livi game for one night (because of the Fringe)

In 1974, my brother and I used youth hostels in Dortmund and in Frankfurt. Cheap and all went well until all of the “Scottish Guests” were politely asked to leave the Frankfurt youth hostel as we couldn’t keep to the curfew times for locking up.
Luckily there was a good sized campsite in the town centre where my brothers mate was pitched with his family.

I recommend the youth hostel for cheapness and wholesome scran but only if you want to risk being thrown out when can’t get in before the locking up time.

I recommend the campsite if you don’t mind sleeping under canvas and your mates make space for you free.

one day maybe...

I've booked a place in Frankfurt that sleeps 3 has a kitchen, bathroom and living area. £2400 for the duration of the first round of group games. Booked it a while a go, hoping some of the mates can get two weeks off work.
Frankfurt is pretty central for getting around Germany so hopefully get a hold of some tickets.
Just got travel arrangements to book.

How easy is it to get to the other host cities from Frankfurt? Seen a few people mention Frankfurt so it’s looking like a good choice!

Just found a cracking 3 bed apartment in Frankfurt for £110 per night. So only £36 per person per night!

Drive to Newcastle, ferry to Amsterdam (£153) and 4 hour drive to Frankfurt!

Or flight from Edinburgh £373 or London £75!

Looks pretty decent so far!

Wee loop hole which I’ve exploited and is still available.

EasyJet flights to Berlin aren’t on sale yet, but you can book via EasyJet holidays as a package. We’ve booked for 8 from the Friday of the first game (14th) to Thursday 20th June. £600 per person for flights, bags and 3* digs.

Still options on the same dates for other hotels for £630 pp, with £200 off the total cost. Costs vary depends on numbers.

£60 deposit, with balance to pay 28 days prior. Free cancellation, with deposit back as EasyJet holiday’s credit if the somehow cock it up.

This’ll change when EasyJet release their flights. Ryanair on the same dates were £350 when I looked earlier.

Be in the country for a minimum of one scotland game, so plan a trip within the trip to wherever they play. One nights digs to be finalised when the draw is made, unless it’s Berlin, Hamburg or Leipzig which can be done on a day trip.

My sister-in-law is in Berlin so might be able to ask her if we can stay a few days. Getting there will be the problem.

One thing to watch but not sure what you can do about it - mate had booked an Airbnb in Cologne for the first 2 weeks. Host cancelled but told him he could rebook at double the price.

I expect there will be lots of this going on as teams & locations get confirmed.

Not just the bookers who are playing the game - the hosts will be looking to maximise revenues.

It's the same as the £49 train pass you can only use the regional trains. Although you can use regional train to get between Dusseldorf, Koln, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen, just sometimes more stops than intercity.

You can theoretically get across Germany on regional trains but would take a while jumping between them

Fairplay to those organising things now - too many unknowns right now about games location and dates for us so weve decided to wait until schedule decided.

I'm hoping that there will still be plenty of affordable routes into Germany after that and also think the accomodation situation should settle a bit.

I pitched a tent at Euro 92 and France 98, a bit older now but still think I could do that again with the right gear. I’m hanging on to see where we are playing first, be a scramble but a camping place outside of town near a train station is a cheap option.

It will, a lot of panic from us Scots because its a novelty after so many years of failure, but will be plenty options not just for travel but for accommodation. Its Germany, a country with great transport links, loads of hotel rooms etc, I've not even thought of looking yet. Last time I watched Scotland in a tournament with full crowds (France 98) we just turned up with only accomodation in Paris for first 3 nights, and found hotels no problem. Last World Cup I was at as a neutral was Germany 2006, had hotels in advance (at normal rates) in the host cities for 2 of the quarter finals, games involving Germany, Argentina & Brasil. The hosts & 2 countries that carry massive supports at WC.

That's good to know mate. Getting time off work will be difficult as well so will need to narrow it down to 4 or 5 days max.

I was at Brazil Scotland in 98 in Paris as a teenager with my old boy and remember the excitememt of it all, really want to be there at some point for this one.

3 of us going 18th to 22 June. This should cover at least 1 group game for all the groups.

Flights booked direct Edinburgh to Cologne and hotel for 4 nights for a total of £480 each.

Chose Cologne as close to 5 of the venues
