Sadly we lost a Hibs supporting legend recently. My granda Tommy Faughnan passed away on Wednesday 23rd August at the age of 92. He left us at the age of 92 (90+2) on the 23rd (2-3) at approximately 01:32am (Won 3-2). The ultimate Hibby to the very end.
Tommy has guided a further 2 generations of diehard Hibees to follow the cabbage through thick and thin and his teachings will be passed on to the future generations as well. He was a season ticket holder in the Famous Five for decades and was still attending games until he was moved to the upper tier and it became a wee bit too tough for him a few years ago.
He saw us win it all:
At the age of 85, he attended Hampden to watch us lift the Scottish Cup, and in doing so, meant he had seen us lift every domestic trophy including:
The League
League Cup
Scottish Cup
Drybrough Cup
And as he'd remind us, the Summer Cup as well
Along with many other honours, famous European nights, and 7-0 along the way.
In 1991, Tommy attended the Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden Park against Dunfermline. Obviously we won 2-0 and lifted the cup. The local pub, the Bunch O Roses, had taken a bus to the game and as usual were one of the last buses to leave. The bus had just got through Glasgow and onto the M8 quite a few miles down the road when a shout went up that there was a Hibs supporter walking along the motorway twirling his Hibs scarf above his head. The bus was stopped to pick up this Hibs Supporter and Tommy got on the bus. He was asked what he was thinking about and replied he was so happy he was going to walk home.
Tommy was a hero to me and so many others and loved this club in a way that made you feel guilty if yer arse left it's seat before the final whistle.
On the off chance this reaches the eyes of anyone that may have known him over the years, his funeral will be held at Seafield Crematorium on Friday 22nd September at 13:00.
Rest easy Granda. A true Hibs legend.

Loved reading your post, albeit sad news about your granda.
It was great reading all the positive things about his life, a Hibee through and through. My motto is to always focus on the positives, there's enough negatives on the world for others to focus on. As a Hibee, he's seen it all, plus many we'd all rather he (we) didn't.
RIP Tommy Faughnan

Sounded like a real character did Mr Faughnan and that Hibs, as for many of us, was a big part of his life and for all the ups and downs made it better.
RIP Tommy, condolences to your family and friends.

Thank you for all the lovely replies. They are hugely appreciated.
It means a lot to me and the family to see such a great man who embodied Hibs Class recognised by the Hibee family.
His memory forever marches on through us and will always be entwined with Hibernian Football Club.

Don’t think I knew Tommy, but always sad to hear of a fellow Hibee passing.
Went to school with a lassie called Elaine Faughnan, so maybe or maybe not they were related.
In any event, hope the funeral goes off well tomorrow and Tommy’s relatives and friends can draw some comfort from it.
