Probably be a film made about this in years to come
If he has been spying for Iran, could be there now

Police are searching Richmond Park. They must have a tip-off.

I saw that today. I get that everyone is entitled to a fair trial but this is a slam dunk of a case 😄

Maybe he is going to argue he shouldn’t have been imprisoned in the first place.

He should claim he was kidnapped from the jail by the Iranian secret service the right wing press were trying to convince us he was working for.

As an ex soldier it's his job to escape captivity, maybe he thought he was on an escape and evasion exercise.

Publicity and I'm sure that the Daily Mail/Express would have been spewing with outrage if he had entered a guilty plea.

Also an opportunity for the guy to get a greater sentence than he might have got if he had pled guilty.

His trial for escaping prison has been combined with his trial for terrorism offences so by pleading not guilty he gets to remain on remand until his yet to be scheduled trial rather than go into high security prison now. In the probable event that he is found guilty of escaping prison the time he has spent on remand will likely cover the sentence given for that crime.
