Correct. It’s a simple game sometimes

Players in correct positions, simple instructions.. who knows - but it was better.

To play devil's advocate though - we have struggled for a result in the league whilst having played European football midweek. This is the first result this season and it has come against a team that also played Europe Thursday.

Aberdeen have struggled in the league with European games midweek, including today.

Hearts have struggled after European football midweek. They have won once this season - in the week before they entered Europe.

It isn't all coincidence. Don't get me wrong, Johnson had to go- though maybe we will see us settle down now Europe is out the way.. maybe it would have happened regardless.

Anyway, Johnson wasn't the right man imo and looking forward to the new man's tenure - and although there are some deficiencies in the squad, I think the squad is good overall. Plenty attacking options and with Levitt not out long term and Obita looking useful.

New man in, get more out the players we have and can recruit one or two in key positions in January. Onwards and upwards

Aberdeen’s defending for the first goal! Genuinely as awful as ALF’s shot was sweet.

And for the 2nd. Think we won about 4 headers in a row in their box

I think a massive positive today was Newell having the freedom to go forward knowing jeggo will sit. Obviously it paid off with Newell setting up Alf for his goal but in general it lets Newell go and start attacks for us . Also the team just looked like they cared so much more and a great use of the subs from sir david

A manager that, even if it's just temporary, can organise and motivate players.

This 👍 players played in their natural position, working hard for each other (and the manager), closing down quickly and good attacking subs which psychologically gave the players belief they were there to win the game not just hang on. The body language at the end was excellent, you saw how much that win meant. SDG had them motivated as a collective group, something LJ could never achieve.

Really important win going into the break and good backdrop for the new manager to come into with a much happier squad.

Luck for a change. We went up there at the end of last season and battered them. Missing a penalty and hitting the woodwork. Didn't fall for us that day. Today it did. They were fortunate it was only 2-0. We just seem to have Aberdeens number imo.

We did the basics well. CDM stayed as CDM. Full back done a better job closing down. CB dealt with crosses. Campbell and Newell closed down well. If anything the forward players were a bit wasteful but just assigning people basic roles makes football a lot easier.

I was thinking when that went in that if we'd lost that goal there would be absolute meltdown.

Even some of the ones we missed, like the Will Fish header in the first half - not good from them.

Agree with this...in many ways "Europe" seems to have become a bit of a poison chalice for Scottish Clubs. Fans love the idea of qualifying and the away days are great, but you can see that all the teams who qualified have under-performed in the league. I bet you Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs are all in the top 6 by the end of the season though.

I don't think it is just that we love the idea of qualifying. This club needs to qualify. It is where the money and the exposure is.

If we're not qualifying and using it to progress then one of our rivals is.

It is somewhat of a poisoned chalice but, if we could somehow qualify for two or three seasons in a row, we might get better at building a squad for the challenge and managing the workload.

absolutely, if we are not qualifying we are 5th or 6th in the league and that is failure

The problem with Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen playing in Europe Thursday/Sunday is they don't have big enough squads to cope. LJ did try to rotate but those that played were not good enough. With the Dons playing European football until at least Christmas, will have a detrimental effect on their league performances IMO.

Not sure LJ did try and rotate very much - it would have been perfect opportunity to blood one of the youngsters and then bring on one or two youngsters - that never happened and he also sanctioned the loans of McIntyre and Henderson without any real replacements. I do agree that expect Aberdeen to struggle until Christmas and we need to make the most of that as well as the fact that Hearts seem to be in a bit of a dip too.
