His brain works on a completely different level to the majority of players in this league.
Sure, he doesn’t have the pace etc he once had, but he should be on of the first names on the team sheet every week for me.
Only Newell is close to his reading of the game in our squad.

Joint top scorer in the league with a goal every 40 mins ( according to the bbc)

Possibly true.

I’m always a believer in starting your best players and letting them go as long as they can, but that’s just my tuppence.

Said at the time it was a very clever signing. He's got such good game intelligence. Would love to have had him 10 years ago. Very good signing even now.

Said when many were saying ‘but he’s only been playing in the Australian League etc’ that he would get double figures for us, and stand by that.

He’s a total professional.

I’m thinking Lee’s problem was sticking to a formation. I hate to say it but we have a little and large up front, two out and out wingers and fullbacks who defend first. It might be time for the dreaded 442

What if he's better coming off the bench [emoji848]

He’s got too much to offer to be consigned to the bench. He gives another dimension and makes things happen with his movement and knowledge. He’s a clever player - always has been. Question is who is ideal foil?

Even when he came on at Villa Park some of his one touch lay offs were excellent and very clever at using his body to win a foul

Much better coming off the bench. If he starts he doesn't know how long he's going to play for and can't pace himself. As a sub he know exactly how long he plays for and can make it pay.

Averaging a goal every 40 minutes so far.

Really like him as a “Super sub” option, at his age putting him up against tiring legs is a good thing to have up our sleeves. Not quick but will find space, and clever enough to latch onto a moments loss of concentration.

If 442 suits the players we have then play it.

We haven’t got good enough players (albeit they have their strengths) to try to shoehorn them into a preconceived formation and pattern of play.

I think coming on lay 30 when team tire his football brain finds space will score lots goal probably 1 best finisher in league easy 10-15 goals this season. Massive pat on back to newall for lay off aswell

Sometimes you just pick up the star sub role

Gray said in interview Vente won’t get the plaudits but did well knackering the defenders in so many words.

If we are winning 2-0 away this formula may have to stay as it is for now.

New manager may disagree of course

Great player and agree with so many about his quality. But he’s an old guy and can’t start. He gets joy once the front three of Ellie, Boyler and Vente have ran the opposition defense ragged. Like Doige. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

A crucial but limited and proscribed role for those chaps.

Would like to see Vente and doidge start till about 60/65 min then bring on ALF for Doidge. Vente playing with both of them over the 90 should really help him I think

He would make a great forwards coach if there was such a role. For his goal yesterday you can see him pointing where he wants the ball and then his movement is top drawer. I'd like to see our forwards learn from him and our defence practice playing against him.

Problem is that he needs to play in a front 2. This means that our most effective attacking threats in Youan and Boyle have to play deeper to accommodate that, making them less effective.

He's done way better than I expected but should remain on the bench imo

Genuine question. Why is it a dreaded 442? What is wrong with that formation if it suits our players?

He didn’t really play in a 2 when he came on yesterday. Looked to me as if he was a straight replacement for Campbell who had been playing in behind Vente

I don't think it does suit our players as it moves Boyle and Youan deeper making them less effective in the attacking 3rd

Odds on it's 442 with Montgomery. He's played it the last 2 seasons at CCM.
