When do we finally catch a break?

We always seem to go about things the right way. Sort our stadium and training facilities out long before anyone outside the old firm even thinks about it. No real reward for it.

Finish third under JR and have to play plenty qualifiers. Hearts are pish, get relegated (it was definitely a relegation) then finish third and are guaranteed group stage football. Aberdeen are abysmal. Lose to Darvel in the cup then ship 11 goals without reply in Edinburgh, still finish third and are guaranteed group stage football. Even our Scottish Cup record. Most times runners up outside the old firm.

Surely our luck is about to change soon? Get the right manager in then win the treble?

There’s good luck, there’s bad luck and then there’s Hibs luck.

I don’t think we do go about things the right way and our luck will change once we actually do.

Yup, “competitive advantage” in a sense was there in terms of infrastructure. The club would and did say they tried to invest in the team whilst building the infrastructure. We did have some decent signings (Stokes mrk1, Miller) managers by and large were backed to an extent BUT more often than not backed the wrong manager. Getting relegated and allowing Aberdeen a clear run at 2nd/3rd was criminal. And going down with the Jambos.

But we still wait for things to click. I think this time when they do we’ll be in a better place to reap the rewards commercially. Winning the SC under the Gordon’s regime would have seen us rake it in.

Don’t get me started on that season Aberdeen should have gone down but for the daft stadium capacity regulation meant there’s no relegation that season.

WTF? Talk about luck.

They’ve needed some humble pie for a long time.

Couldn’t even buy a Scottish Cup 2016 winners tie. Scandalous.

It seems like Aberdeen have been talking about a new stadium since I was born - what sort of competitive advantage has that given them for the last goodness knows how many years - what happens to their player budget after they start paying for one. Their stadium is a joke but is never mentioned by the media 😡

We keep letting owners who know nothing about football appoint CEOs who know nothing about football.

Those CEOs keep appointing poor managers.

Those poor managers keep signing poor/average players and get very little out of them.

Nothing unlucky about it.

Well we have a vastly experienced DOF now so that should break the cycle.

We make our own luck but it is a good point you make about Aberdeen's pit. I think Aberdeen are hoping that by going for the 'community seafront redevelopment' option that their new stadium build will be heavily/solely funded by the Coonsil thus reducing the funding issue for them as a club. If they have to fund it themselves then it could have a huge impact on them regards squad budgets.

We have the infrastructure in place already and should have leveraged that aspect more than we have. I believe we should have a much stronger Academy than we seem to have. I would have liked us to take up Rangers position in the Lowland League when they took a huff and walked away. Regular league competition in my opinion is better than glamour friendlies.

I am pleased we have extensively extended our hospitality options as that will create welcome additional revenues. I think we need to explore other commercial options that are outwith Hibs supporters dipping their hands in their pockets though. There must be a steady revenue stream that is not necessarily linked to football so it becomes easy & reliable revenues.

With increased commercial & ST revenues it then comes down to recruitment. We have picked up a few gems but in the main it seems to have been more 'miss than hit'. How bloody hard can it be to get a couple of reliable CBs, RB and LBs ?? We've been looking to replace Hanlon & Stevenson for 2-3 seasons but never managed it. I would prefer a strong, dependable defence and a team that can grind out results over flair. Build from the back but we always seem to want to build from the top and have far too many 'projects or potential'. I get the logic but I think we sign too many 'potential gems'. Get the foundations right and then take 3-5 years to build a fantastic squad that can realistically secure 3rd season after season - then start to close the gap to the OF. Then we create our own luck.
