I assume he’s held in high regard and may have suggested Montgomery for the job.
Hence Montgomery getting in contact as per other reports.

Weird article. Calls Kit Gordon ‘Ian Gordon’s brother’ and refers to our league as the SPL.
Anyway, comes across a bit self-serving and thoughtless to claim he was straight up offered the job whilst we’re still actively recruiting for it. Could impact other candidates.

Don’t understand the seethe tbh.
I posted yesterday that he would be unveiling the squad for the Mexico game and would undoubtedly be asked about the rumours.
At least I got something right when I posted that I couldn’t see him leaving Sydney and the Australian job to come to Hibs.
He’s been away from club football for a while now, is 60 and has a contract for the next couple of years, and possibly looking at another World Cup Finals.
I like Arnie, but he wouldn’t have been my first choice given his absence from the day to day pressures of club football for so long.

That article has made up confusion about the ownership and says Kit is Ian’s Brother is there a link to his actual press conference I’d like to hear him actually talk about it to see how much is true, bit of a boot in the swingers for us if he’s gone public with actually turning down a job offer.

Similar to that tweet yesterday that was posted on here about hibs agreeing £250,000 comp for Robinson but hardly mentioned elsewhere, press probably still churning out the Lennon stuff
My gut feeling is that it may be Robinson though

I wouldn’t be surprised if the call was made to him to suss out whether he would be interested as one of the potential candidates rather than a straight “job is yours if you want it’
or he is even referring to being contacted through an agent to see if he was available.
Hibs may put some context around it at some point

Like I said, not the end of the world but all he has to say is that he's committed to his job and not going anywhere. There isn't really any need for him to confirm he has even spoken to Hibs, let alone been offered the job (his words).

There's no chance Hibs have rung him up out the blue and offered him the job over the phone, and on the first call.
Absolutely zero chance.
Suspect it's the press doing what they always do.

they said on radio last night before the game it was their understanding we hadn't drawn up a shortlist yet, and a lot of the names chucked around so far where agents drumming up interest, this was mclaughlin though he also said he previously thought Lennon was favourite but has since changed his mind so he must have been given a nod on that not happening i think

I'm happy to bash the press as much as anyone but being offered the job is a direct quote from Arnold according to the article:
“I have to say it was an honour that Hibs rang me and offered me the job but I’ve got a job to do here,”
My guess is he's over egging the conversation, which is why it's got my back up a bit.

Can’t get worked up about it tbh.
Nobody’s going to pull out because Arnie says he was offered the job.
Many, many managerial vacancies are filled by somebody other than the first choice
Never been one for the political niceties and diplomacy it must be said, so maybe it’s just me, and my insensitive nature.

Nothing to get too worked up about. We'll have offered him the chance to be interviewed. He also said it was an honour so fair play.
Was keen on him getting the job but if he doesn't feel the time is right then it's for the best he didn't take the interview.
Monty time!

Tbh if I was Hibs I would be dropping a few other hints about folk being considered / approached
It makes the process look more thorough and the candidates discarded big up the appointee by their being discarded
I would be very surprised if we didn’t have a candidate in mind right from the outset

I think the fact that Arnold has spoken to us and knocked it back is a great sign that a) we’ve got some targets ready to approach and b) we’re happy to aim for a high profile appointment if we can get one.
Arnold and Ian Gordon will know to what extent he was offered the job but I think going by Lennon’s reaction and the story about Robinson, that we’re reaching out to a number of prospective targets and also seeing who comes forward to apply. Which is how you’d want it done, really.

“I have to say it was an honour that Hibs rang me and offered me the job but I’ve got a job to do here,”
I tend to believe comments with quote marks. If this is true, it’s either unprofessional of Arnold or stupid of Hibs to put themselves in a position of being publicly turned down. It could influence potential candidates.

Hope our interview process is a bit more thorough that just phoning him up and offering it to him without speaking to other candidates as well. Sounds like bull**** to me. Personally I’d rather have someone who has some working knowledge of our league rather than someone from half way round the world who has no experience in Scotland or even England. And before it’s mentioned, Ange is the exception not the rule.

01-09-2023, 11:21 AM
McDermott doesn’t strike me as the type of guy that would pick a manager without phoning him to discuss it and meet him in person along with the board first.
A phone call to discuss it and see his thoughts, maybe even a “you’re who we want” but not formally offer him it

Not professional at all. I doubt very much the club would have called him to offer him the job without meeting in person. Certainly not before a series of interviews which would mean he's had more than one surely? All in less than a week??? Him saying he was offered it so early in the process just doesn't ring true. Glad he's out anyway.

From Moira Gordon
It is understood that the recent comments from the Australia national team boss, who told the Australian football website Keep Up that he had been offered but turned down the job, have baffled and annoyed key people at the club, who are adamant that no firm job proposal was made.

Hibs baffled by Graham Arnold claims as manager hunt continues - but deadline day signing unlikely.
I’m more concerned about the second part of the headline. If so, it looks like we won’t be strengthened in this window. With tough games coming up, can we sit back and hope that our managerless team will make a u-turn and push us up the league? I have my doubts and by the time he’s appointed, we could be very heavily anchored at the foot of the league. The guy who gets the job could find the task ahead a lot more tricky than hoped for.
