I was in Birmingham last week, BROAD STREET is 10 minutes walk from the train station, go under the motorway then turn right up the hill.
Great Area large Plaza , lots of hotels, and more importantly loads of pubs, big small , beer gardens, traditional, loads of restaurants some post some pub grub.
5 minutes walk from New Street station is another large plaza
grand central station, and Bullring shopping area, very like St james Centre, this area is probably better for carry outs.

Looks decent

There's plenty pubs, and open areas for alfresco drinking, as someone else mentioned its close to a number of LGBT friendly bars, also the traditional Chinatown.

Doesn’t appear to be that many bars - combination of some night clubs, a couple of cocktail bars and two traditional pubs. Based on what others have said I thought Broad Street would be the main place - unless Hibs have something organised and agreed at the Arcadian. Any local Brummies able to comment ?

Ticket collection is at Arcadian so maybe why they are directing people to there.

I can see Broad street being popular also though with it being close to many peoples hotels

Ah, cheers.

BBC Scotland haven't covered an away game yet in the qualifiers, I'd be surprised if they put this on. Which probably leaves ViaPlay, but they are showing the Hearts game in Greece.

I think those who are expecting it to be on TV might be disappointed sadly.

I know Birmingham quite well though not Aston particularly,
but understand it's not the most salubrious of areas, with the kind of issues you'd normally expect in a reflectively deprived area. The sort of area that is likely to be home to a diverse community, as it indeed is. If visiting such a neighbourhood is going to be a problem to anyone, then such individuals should probably stay at home, and learn not to be narrow-minded a*seholes. There are very few pubs near the ground as there's not the demand for them.

I worked and lived in Birmingham for a while and Arcadian is a good spot. And its only a 10/15 min walk from Broad Street - if you fancy going there. If you fancy something a wee bit more up-market - still in the same central area, try the Mailbox or Brindley Place. The canal-side bars are excellent.

Your friendly Villa fan is here. I wouldn't advise going to the Arcadian i'm surprise the club has said this also its generally just a nightlife area for bars/clubs not really a pre build up area. Broad Street is your best bet for bars as you have one after the other not many locals frequent this area it's tourists mainly so you'll find somewhere to drink. I would personally recommend pubs in Brindleyplace area as its on the canal and a nicer area generally failing that is a fair few pubs off colmore road Old Contempibles or the old royal would be worth ago. The area near the stadium is pretty deprived as said previously and just not a great area with few pubs which are mainly home only and not really worth going to either in my opinion. Feel free for any other questions.

Your input here is always welcome. Think there will be a lot more hibs fans going to Birmingham than villa fans came up here. Which means they are going to be spread over a large area. I would guess maybe 3/4 k heading down...maybe more. Maybe hibs have advised the Arcadian as it seems quite a big place with outdoor space therefore will hold a large number of fans?

I can understand they would effectively want you in an easily policed area and the Arcadian is essentially a circle of establishment just it's more of a nightclub area and I would assume some of the places wouldn't be open. Not where I would go but just check it out maybe if you get in early in the day then move on. If travelling via taxi to the game just note it's a bit further than Broad Street area also.

Appreciate your advice. From Broad street to the ground is best way to get a train from New street.

Think your team look amazing this season and good to see Emery finding his feet in EPL after his Arsenal experience. Always liked him and his Sevilla exploits in Europe. Always had a soft spot for Villa and given I am old it was when Andy Gray played for you and remember all the other kids in school sheep like supported Liverpool but can remember a 5 1 victory over them think Gray scored a hat trick. Obviously liked the league winning team and European cup with Ron Saunders Denis Mortimer Ken McNaught Gary Shaw etc. Hope you have a great season.

I have walked it back into the centre before, fair old distance though probably about 30/40 mins. You also don't really pass much until you hit Aston university (first 25 mins through industrial area)few pubs and stuff around there.

Might be because I've been going there 40 years but I never get this. The area has it's issues but it's not the bloods and the crips around the ground, you'll be alright.

Some people are scared of their own shadow, and others are plain racist and **** themselves when they see a few people that aren't white.

Think that might have more to do with how the media portray major English cities. However that's a debate for another day.

Arcadian was quiet just now

Just arrived at O Neill's , a few dozen hibbies here . More than elsewhere but fairly quiet so far. A wee singsong getting going though

Have arranged to meet a Villa friend in one of the pubs in Digbeth

I saw Crass at Digbeth Town Hall in 1982, is it still a run down, crime infested hell hole?

Digbeth area has had a lot of redevelopment so has a lot of trendy places now and pubs but a lot of bad areas nearby to it still! A good location if you ever play Birmingham City though only 15-20 minute walk from their ground.

Haven't you watched Peaky Blinders? Wouldn't be going near a Birmingham canal unless I spoke fluent gypsy.....

Get yourself to Reflex on Broad Street. Good old 80s sounds and open late. Had many a good night in there.

There is also a popworld for similar kind of stuff if you're into that!

A Little bar I would recommend well before the game is post office vaults something a little bit different. I will likely be in something Briar Rose which is a wetherspoons tomorrow so if any of you Hibs fans are there who knows maybe I'll see you!
