At the start of the season, some people said we had to finish 3rd or LJ should go. Some said 4th minimum and a cup.

What does the new man need to achieve in order to keep his job beyond the summer (if he lasts that long)?

He needs to get his players in while we struggle to 8th place and exit the cups at the earliest opportunity to allow more time on the training ground.

Another wonderful transitional season!

And as part of this, get them to actually pass the ball to each other, rather than repeating the pointless hoofball tactics of the last manager.

Well, as a start, defensive cover for our fullbacks, stop crosses coming in and when they do come in, stop making it so easy for forwards to score, then we won't need to score 3 to draw a game at home, we might even start to win one or two

To make us solid at the back and build from there. If he can do that with the players we currently have good if not then players need to be brought in and current players moved on (easier said than done)

Competent defending and the ability to carve teams open should be a bare minimum. Consistency in the formation and positioning of players. Clear instructions on the park with players understanding their individual and collective roles. Proper managerial oversight over training sessions to ensure that they're properly equipped to carry out those roles.

It's not hard. But we seem to struggle with the obvious for some reason.

Win the league cup, concentrate on the league and start winning games until January when he can take the Scottish cup seriously, get us to the final in May when hopefully by then he's led us to the title and we finish off with the cup win at Hampden and the treble secured.

Any less and he's out for me, even if it's Jack Ross.

When's the league cup final?

I'm just drawing up the job advert and need to get it right.

I’m an old man now and this has been a problem at Hibs on many, many occassions.

I just checked. The final is 17 December so we're basically offering a 3 month contract with the option of an extension.

I agree 👍

Look at the roles of ‘club legends’ on coaching staff and in our team. Just in case we are being over sentimental at the price of progress.

Give him a pub pool table contract. Winner stays on and once he's lost a game he's out on his erchie. Added bonus is that the next manager is the one that just beat us.

Find out why we look unfit and jaded, s and c dept.
Sign defenders who can leap and don't have their boots nailed to the ground.
Question our injury history, medical dept
Work out why we seem to be unable to handle weekend/Midweek/Weekend games.
Stop us leaking goals from crosses.

Longer term.
No lower than 5th, deep cup runs.
Promotion of youth,
Group stage European football.

Make us hard to beat, give us a playing style/identity so it looks as if we’re working towards a plan finish in top 6.

He’s already a window down should be bare minimum expectations for this year now anything in cups a bonus

Just about spot on. Either that or just give it to Gray as he is picking up a lot of experience as a caretaker manager.

The same as with any Hibs manager. Get the club to live up to it's potential and hopefully punch above it's weight from time to time.

Never in my time as a match going Hibs fan, which now extends to about 48 years, has a manager had the club ending up in the top 4 of the top league for more than a couple of seasons in a row, in fact it may not even have happened at all, I would have to check. For the 4th / 5th biggest club in the country that's a pretty bloody terrible stat.

We have the potential to win more than one cup every 15 years. We have the potential to play in front of average 18,000 crowds at home, that's already been proved. We have the potential to achieve regular European football, we have the potential to reach the group stages of European football, with a favourable draw that is.

We have the potential to be far far better than the miserable run of poor league positions, too many relegations, too many derby defeats and too many cup final defeats than has been my experience as a Hibs fan.

The new guy can probably better any of that utter dross by doing what few Hibs managers ever manage, but loads of others do. Put together a team that's strong in attack and defensively .. a good start would be not to sign a striker for near enough a club record fee and then leave him on the bench all the time.

No manager of this club is being asked the impossible, all we want from them is to make the most of what they have, which is a budget considerably better than over half the league, a fanbase more than half the league would bite your hand off for and fantastic training facilities.

Next please

A new manager will be peeing with someone else's appendage so I would expect them to stop the rot, find a style and formation the players are comfortable with and the squad can cover. That first step was not been completed by Johnson after 3 windows and umpteen signings. I'd actually like the next manager to say his football style will be developed when he sees what he has to work with. We desperately needs someone who has knowledge of our league and has had some success. We could easily struggle to avoid teh drop with another poor left field appointment. Lastly they need to be honest, be able to build working relationships with the squad and also admit when they have made mistakes so that rules Lennon out. McInnes is the standout candidate for me and I would take Robinson too. Martindale is a good bit ahead of the last two we have had but I think he suits being the underdog.

Just win some games. Doesn’t need to be free flowing silky football or full of promises that can’t be delivered. This squad, when given the right instruction, should be easily top six and challenging for higher.

I'd say a couple of weeks coaching of the midfield & wingers, on how to position yourself when out of possession, to stop opposition full backs having a free cross into our box every 10 minutes.

And if you're Derek McInnes, the opportunity to work with a front three of Youan, Boyle & Vente at the top end of the pitch must be tempting (better than the front three he had at Aberdeen ie Hayes, Rooney, MacKay-Steven).

For me it's more important we establish a 'Hibs way' of playing that runs through all the teams that transcends who is in day to day charge. We recruit people to play in a certain way for certain positions in a consistent way and football management staff are there to coach players in the system. We kind of started this under Leann Demptser but it fell by the wayside since she departed. We need to get back to it if we're to avoid the current 'rinse and repeat' cycle of management.

But we should still be able to get top six and have a run in the cups from here.

I get the feeling Gray might stake a claim for the job this time round, I reckon he will do what's necessary over the next few games, which includes making us hard to beat and setting up a formation / style of play and stick to it. Keep it simple.

Not saying he'll get the job, but call me hopeful I think he'll pick up some decent points in his interim charge.

I would be happy with a target of getting the players fit, motivated and given clear and consistent instructions that are drilled in during training and then implemented on a Saturday. In other words the basics.
