Having watched recent games and goals conceded I watched Liam Henderson’s interview with Graham Hunter and it’s always stuck with me that Stubbs was the only manager that had LH stay behind with the defence and pump in ‘50 corners’ which LH credits to AS and the SC win.

I know Silverhibee will confirm, but that’s much how Deek perfected his technique from free kicks and shooting (staying back after training).

I know that this isn’t happening during training now, so perhaps for the next month that’s what sessions should be including. Avoidable goals (in the words of LJ) are avoided through coaching it, training it, and working on it.

Recruitment we can always debate, but for me there doesn’t appear to be the ‘hard hours’ being put in to correct things defensively.

I posted recently about getting someone like Kenny Miller in to coach the strikers. Maybe we need similar defensively short term. This squad doesn’t appear - to me - to be (being) well coached.

It doesn't.

Weve turned 50 corners over the years and still back where we started :)

but seriously we’ve had some players with real technical ability over the years Sauzee, Latapy, Hendo - and we have Boozy on the staff. Surely to goodness we have folks practising dead ball deliveries, corners/freekicks?

it was interesting to see even how a Villa executed their drills through progressions - warm up and stretching, ball work, short and mid range passing, it so much on shooting as I recall maybe a stopped paying attention edits: they did practise crosses drilled across the box with two runners and usually the second man tucking it away.

Interestingly in the warm up their mid range passing wasn’t as crisp and precise. Not reflected in the game so dunno if there was a bit of psychology going on there… they were absolutely clinical in the game as we know

If we mastered ball control we would rarely not have possesion of the ball.

As Gary player said when asked about his luck after holing a chip from off the green.

The more I practice the luckier I get.

I have a vision of training where Fish, Hanlon & Stevenson are at one end of the pitch each taking 50 turns at hoofing the ball towards targets at the other end .
