Good article from Simon Jordan (I have never heard of him) about the difference in finances between Hibs and Aston Villa. And he is defending Hibs.

100x the budget does not mean 100x the player. No doubt they have better players but there is diminishing returns as you go up the leagues and you have to spend a lot more money for a slightly better player. Bottle, graft and getting in an opponents face can make up for a fair chunk of budget in a one off game. No chance over a season but in a single game it is not unusual for smaller teams to hurt much bigger teams if not beat them. There are also occasions when they are completely overawed and stand and admire the greatness of their opposite number. There are different types of 5-0 pumping and last night was one our players watched. So their turnover is 16 times ours. Morton's is a tenth of ours and they pumped us 3-0. Money may be most thing in football but it isn't everything particularly away from home in a one off game

Never mind budgets or players. They have one of the best managers going.

You mean like a small team that has just comfortably seen off the OF with a manager that for some reason many posters don't want at Easter Road?

Villa were up for last night's game. When bigger teams lose to smaller clubs, it's because they've taken them for granted and aren't fully focused.
There are no circumstances under which we'd beat an EPL side if they were determined to win.

Yes, it showed us playing walking football while Villa passed the ball completely unchallenged to the wide man who crossed it in for a striker with no-one goal side. I never saw amazing runs, fantastic touches for the first three goals I saw a team playing completely unchallenged. I don't think I have complained once about the score line. My issue is we never went out to give them a game and make them work.

Thought it might have been Johnson after we beat Celtic 4-2 last time we played them.

I'm sorry but that's a completely unrealistic take on things.
There's maybe an £11m gap between us and Morton. Over half a billion between us and Villa in terms of squad value.
It is unusual for teams with much smaller budgets to beat teams with much bigger. Proportionally to how many times the big team wins, the minnows wins are miniscule.

If you’re referring to the league cup game last season, Morton didn’t pump us 3-0. They won on penalties after the game finished 1-1 and were subsequently awarded the game 3-0 when Hibs stupidly made an admin error in fielding Bushiri when he was suspended. That puts their ‘big’ win over us in some perspective but we would all agree that in one off games, smaller teams can upset bigger teams if the stars align. Re the Villa game, we needed them to take the game lightly and not be at their best and for Hibs to play out of their skins for any chance of an upset, but sadly neither happened. Emery is a very shrewd, highly capable coach who will have real hopes of winning the Conference League and he started like he means to go on and in doing so to give Villa a decent chance of winning the thing.

He is a former owner of Crystal Palace. As a pundit he gets approached for comments on all aspects of the game. Usually a bit controversial.

The reality of the inherit extreme imbalance in finances, meaning results like on Wednesday evening were always a possibility, seem to get conveniently overlooked for the anti-Hibs media pile in.
This guy is normally a provocative k*ob but talking sense here.

While there is no doubt that there is a huge gulf in finances and spending power, there is also no doubt the fees paid for players down south are vastly inflated. For example, I would doubt the Villa striker they paid over £50m for is 50 times better than Boyle or Vente. We only got £2m for McGinn but if they had bought him from Sunderland for example they would have probably paid 5 or 6 times that.

The weegie media were quick to point out the vast difference in finances when the huns were rodgered 7-1 by Liverpool last year, but are always quiet when it is done to the clubs outwith the uglies.

I'd be interested to know what the gulf in finances is between Hibs and Inter Club D'escaldes.
Yes, we beat them comfortably at ER but they still managed to give us a bloody nose in Andorra, so it is possible to (occasionally) fight above your weight.
Not a criticism of the article BTW, just an observation.

I think we are all pretty much aware that the underdog can win now and again depending on a lot of things happening all at the same time, with Hibs and teams like ours playing teams with budget and resources on a different level all together I prefer to call this a "mis-match" bit like in boxing if you put a young 16 year old light weight in the ring against one of the top heavyweights of the day who would the bookies and the fans be betting on.
We never done ourselves justice, we should have been able to make a better fist of things than we showed, but would still have got beat, just not as the bbc says (not bbc scotland but all over the U.K.) "huge win" by villa.
Brings me back to our manager, should he stay or should he go now?
