Not so much a question if they would win it - of course they would, but by what margin?

I’ll be charitable to Old Firm and say 15 points.

It wouldn’t be even close - they’d take 3 points off the OF majority of the time, so there’s probably 18 points as it is allowing for 6 dropped points against them (generous). Rest of us would get scudded, so probably a 25+ point gap.

If the playing field was level and they recieved the same income in line with SPL avg for a team of their size, same TV money etc as the rest of us, they would be in the fight for the title, but nothing more.

If you flipped it though, and gave Celtic/Rangers their money, I belive they would do better in the English Prem than Villa are.

If they were in the SPL, they wouldn't have the massive amount of money they currently get from Sky.

They would then be the third largest club (in terms of support), behind Celtc and Rangers, so wouldn't be guaranteed to win anything.

Exactly. Apply the constraints of the SPL to Villa and they'd make it a big 3, that's it

Drop that Villa team into the SPL and obviously they skoosh it.

They wouldn't have the fake money that the EPL washes for billionaire ****bags so who knows. They aren't bigger than rantic thats for sure.

In their current guise with the same players etc I think they’d win every game

Me either. They'd drop points in some of the 4 games at Ibrox and Celtic Park.

I agree I think they'd win the league, but I think folk are going overboard saying how good they are cos they scudded us

They'd win by wheens and get the odd uncomfortable afternoon in Glasgow.

With their current squad Villa would win our league very easily. The gulf in class last night was enormous.

Well they'd have to sell almost all their squad for a start to play in our league as it wouldn't be sustainable. Kind of hypothetical really. Burnley FC are richer than Ajax, a team with four European Cups, which sums up the absurdity of football money in England.

If we were given Aston Villa’s budget, how much would we win the league by?

The financial doping in the EPL is unreal. Tbf to Villa, they are a big club with a proud history, their fanbase is probably comparable to the Old Firm. But of course they have much more money.

that XI, manager and bench would absolutely destroy the SPL obviously. as has been said though, if our financial constraints were on them it would be a different story.

equally, if Hibs were in the English football system, there's every chance we'd get bought over by some billionaire, much like Brentford and Bournmouth, who have no real business being where they are in terms of the size of their clubs - sort of like when Gretna were in the top league here, except they're actually managing to sustain it.

Irony bypass given the quality of your usual "insights".

FWIW, Villa would obviously cruise Scottish football, miles ahead of the erse cheeks.

If Hibs were playing in the EPL (or Hearts and Aberdeen) they would sell out their grounds every week, and looking to increase the capacity. Villa would walk the SPL now, but after a few seasons of trying to get by on SPL revenues, they would start to fall in line with the OF and perhaps even Hibs, Hearts and A'deen. St Johnstone and Dundee at home wouldn't be much of a draw for their fans after the novelty wore off.

We'd skoosh it as well if we had Villa budget and manager (he's one of the best in the business).

Villa were rubbish until they binned SG. They now have one of the top managers in the Premier League/Europe. They would stroll the SPL under their current resources, top 3 probably in last year's form.

That Villa team in this league, as things stand, would sweep all before them whilst barely breaking a sweat, 38 wins, 0 draws, 0 loses

They wouldn’t.

If we had their budget, we’d win it though.

Forget Villa. Imagine we had the budget of Luton, Burnley, Brighton, Brentford, Palace, Bournemouth. We'd walk our league and so would they.
Give us the same budget as them and we'd more than hold our own in the EPL in there place.

Nah don't think they would

Both Celtic and Rangers have had unbeaten league seasons in recent years, Celtic went a season without a domestic loss. Villa beats that Celtic team hands down.

There's every chance they would go through the season unbeaten, and I think a decent chance they'd do it without dropping points.

Or even imagine we had the budget of an English League One team. The bigger Scottish teams outside of the OF would easily compete there - with better stadia and higher (potential) crowds.

Maybe the time has come to accept it's a union of equals - fold the Scottish League and allow Scottish clubs to compete fairly with the riches of the renamed UKPL pyramid...

Its why I laugh when uglies cry about moving to the EPL. What gives them the right. Imagine the possibilities for the likes of us, Aberdeen or Hearts if we could do it. All 3 of us are bigger than just about half the teams in the EPL.

exactly.

as for villa, they’re a good side that are going places (they stuck four past an admittedly terrible Everton before scudding us), but honestly in the cold light of day walloping a team with a 16th of their revenue and a 16th of their wage bill isn’t really a massive achievement. It would be like us beating a Scottish league 2 team 5-0
