Because he presumably doesn't practice defending cross balls (or defending at all), and he most certainly doesn't practice any passing (because all they do is hoof it aimlessly from the back in every single eye-watering game), so what does he do?

And before anyone says "do we really need another thread critising Johnson?", yes we do. Or at least I do because it's very ****ing cathartic.

I think he puts the cones out? Then throws them under a bus instead of packing them up again.

I’m all for this criticism after the opening two league defeats and the raith rovers game. It seems the plan is give the ball to Boyle and Youan and see what happens.

First half we actually done alright and got in behind them a couple of times as we likely will against the better teams when we counter

He must tell the players to make sure they get caught offside each time, or give the ball away or run into blind corners, you know, all the things he can't control as he's not actually on the pitch during the game

What were you actually expecting tonight??

They must play out of their skins in training. We don’t stop crosses, we don’t defend them and we are so passive without the ball it’s beyond a joke.

Few guys needing taken out the team just now. Hanlon, Stevenson and Campbell for a start for me, but the worrying thing is you could pick 8/9.

Johnson a huge part of it, but it’s the same players that are there for the next manager.

Don’t think they had a proper session since Sunday - I’ve absolutely no complaints getting well beaten by a very good top 6 English side, however LJ’s preparation for games leaves a lot to be desired and even 500 games in, he’s utterly naive and falls into the trap of believing this myth that players need wrapped up - it’s not even end of August, it’s effectively pre/start of the season - players should be trained hard and fit as a butchers dog, but they’re totally protected nowadays and you then see the real gulf in class when true athletes come up against Scottish sides.

It’s not a reaction to tonight, Villa are a truly exceptional side - but for the league games, work them hard and don’t molly coddle them. I heard Harry McKirdy say tonight that these games are ones where our players if they perform may see a move (bigger) - we’ll what tonight proved is get on that training pitch next day (after Raith) and work bloody hard to get fitter, stronger and better prepared. You don’t do that sitting watching video highlights.
