Is this match just a glamour tie where we congratulate ourselves for drawing a EPL team and serenade an ex player. Or are we gonna set able them and make life vert uncomfortable for them. I get the feeling many are tickled pink just to be playing an EPL team. I'd like to see us have a real go. But I am not sure what we will get.

I would like to see us see put I in a shift and look beyond the glamour.

Do you think the fan base is just fizzing at the gusset over SJM and don't really care about the football?

It's a huge match against a top class opposition that we may well get humped in but we all want to see the best possible performance, no quarter given etc

Go at them for half an hour until we're 3-0 down, then just enjoy the John McGinn show. :greengrin

I would like to see us keep it tight and scrap for everything. I fear we will go gung ho and they will cut us up for ****paper!

If the final score is 0-3 or less. I'll be calling it a good result

In a quandry over this.

First it's a Glamour tie, whether it's winnable or not.

The thing with this Hibs team is the variance in the standard of the performances are huge from game to game. I just cannot trust them.

I really just do not know what to expect tonight. In all honesty if Villa perform it could be 4 or 5, no matter how Hibs play.

But if Villa are anywhere off it, Hibs could get a 1-1 draw but I doubt it.

It's a glamour tie and it's winnable. Pretty unlikely, but winnable. After 90 minutes I want to see 11 Hibs players who have nothing left to give, regardless of the result.

Right at the moment however I am most interested in seeing who has the massive cojones required to start the match day thread... :greengrin

Glamour tie that we have no chance in imo, but you just never know 🤣

I genuinely don’t care about McGinn coming back.

Loved him during his time here and even after he left, he accomplished a lot for us and is a legend. Even how he conducted himself before, during and after Hibs is really admirable.

But since we’ve drew Villa I’ve not really thought about John McGinn coming back and it doesn’t put me up nor down.

Unless he’s the centre midfielder we’re announcing..

We're not winning this tie. Not Hibs fault at all. Aston Villa are the 20th richest club in world football. To put it in perspective Celtic scrape in to the top 70.

I reckon we could get a win at ER but it would take an absolute miracle to win the tie over the two legs.
Let's face it though - even a win at ER would be a huge upset given the enormous disparity in budgets. I'm sure a certain Andoran team would have been saying similar a few weeks back though.

Let be honest. Have no chance. But give a good as possible account of ourselfs then just enjoy the occasion.

Saying that LJ did get a very good result against Pep and Man city

Winnable leg tonight. Over 180 mins, too big an ask.

As long as we put in a good performance and don't get embarrassed over the 2 legs, I'm happy with that. But they're not Real Madrid, so hopefully we at least have a go.

You've got a chance, our cup record over the last 10 years ago is absolutely abysmal. And I would say it's different now with Don Emery in charge, but we had possibly the worst one in our history under him at the turn of the year.

We managed to get knocked out by Rapid Vienna two years running the last time we were in Europe as well, double annoying as they're ***** and their fans are bellends.

We are good though as it stands, as good as I've seen us and I'm just a bit too young to remember the glory years of the early 80's. I'm excited by the tie but wary, too many painful experiences to draw upon from fairly recent memory to get confident

Tonight's winnable. Unlikely but just look at FA Cup upsets. League 2 teams have put out top flight sides. It happens. Not saying it will but our level is above that. Slim chance but still a chance.

If it was a one off game then we'd have a small chance. Just hopeful we put up a descent fight and are still in the tie when we get to Villa Park.

Glamour tie without a doubt because of the league they come from.

European glamour comes in two categories. A) What league you come from ... B) Because of the club you are.

In 'A' you have England, Spain, Germany, Italy and on the edge France.

In 'B' you have clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Basel, Anderlecht, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce.

Some clubs from the big leagues fit into both categories. Man United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC and Inter Milan ... there's a few others from the so called 'big' leagues who's names just scream the glamour of European football.

Aston Villa for me aren't one of them. If this is a 'glamour' tie it's very much because of the league they come from, not because Aston Villa is a name that makes you think of the glories of European football ( even if they have won the European cup ) like Ajax or the mentalist passion of Galatasaray or Fenerbhace that make playing continental teams the white hot furnace it can be.

Can we beat them in either leg? Being realistic its the longest of long shots ,, doing it at Easter Road would be a major shock, doing it at Villa Park would be nothing short of a miracle .... in modern day football money talks ... Villa scream from the rooftops, Hibs whisper from the pavement ... that's the reality.

Oops, deleted my post by mistake … essentially was saying that often managers play around with selection for domestic cups, look at our team v Raith, and so more likely for a shock in earlier rounds. In Europe, I think teams are up for it and play their strongest possible team normally, so early round shocks less likely …

… but not impossible 🤞🏻 💚

Glamour tie..
As long as we turn up ,have abit fight and pride in the jersey that'll do me ...I'm under no illusion we wont get through..but I'm dreaming of a 1-1 tonight .
Who knows this is Hibs we're talking about absolutely anything can happen once that whistle blows.

We struggled to beat Raith and Villa pumped Everton. Thats the reality of this game but....a lot of luck, we play out our skins and they have an off night...we maybe keep it to 3 or 4:wink:

If we keep within 2 goals of them that for me will be a great result given the gulf. Any game is theorectically winnable but this is remote in the extreme. I think he'll go 5-4-1 (4-1-4-1) with Youan & Boyle wide Vente up top

with the crowd behind us and we certainly will be, it should be a special atmosphere - defo a glamour tie for us - A Premeir League outfit

my biggest concern is a red card early, Joe the bluenose lunging in or somebody else easily getting carried away as tonight of all nights they should be trying a bloody leg to compete.

It's a glamour tie and we deserve it for 3 really good European performance's though i wish it was over with tbh . I think it's just about damage limitation and trying to give a good account of ourselves tbh . Personally I don't think we have a Scooby's chance of winning or drawing against a team of Villa's quality who imo are better than the old firm . Hope I'm totally wrong of course and we pull of a shock 🙏

Being realistic every club outwith the OF have virtually no chance against any EPL team
