Quite pleased that VAR is in use for these games - particularly at ER... With Euro refs overseeing it will be interesting to see it operating at ER....

Hopefully VAR check on trip on Boyler leading to a Pen for Dylan against world cup wining goalie (what would odds on that scenario be :greengrin) Now that would make him a Hero and be an unforgettable moment

Given our luck with VAR that’s not a good thing imo.

More likely to give a red against Newell.

Probably good for both sides. The ref seems like an absolute cock! He's Spanish and seems to love a card. One game last season he gave 15 yellows! I reckon he'll struggle badly with the British game.

This could be bad, very bad.

Newell will be fired up as he's a Birmingham City fan. Think he's been booked twice in Europe so far which gives him an incentive to stay out of trouble tomorrow so that he can play Villa twice.

We complain about refs all the time.. so the chance not only to have overseas refs ( x 3 ) plus VAR operated by (hopefully ) more competent refs is I think to be appreciated for giving a more level playing field

Be even more important in away leg where big home teams have I think we all acknowledge gained advantages in reffing decisions.

Also the new season push by UEFA to stop time wasting will make for a more entertaining 200 minutes :agree:

Had it been in use against Luzern they'd have been down to 10 in 1, arguably both games.

Glad it's now in use, unless the VAR analysis caravan is parked up on Paisley Road West like it is for league matches
