What are you? Nuts. Not interested in a game featuring 2 British sides in a major European competition?

It'll definitely be on TV. Apparently it's between TNT and BBC.

Absolutely no chance this will be PPV

Timing wise is poor and it's a fixture where the general perception is that it will be a non event. General chat where I live with fans of Rangers Celtic, St.Mirren and Morton fans is that we will be gubbed and it will be embarrassing. Whereas all think Hearts have a chance to carry the flag for scotland. The guys I know and work with would like to see that tie more.
Just saying what I've heard

Surely nobody would rather watch Hearts v PAOK rather than Hibs v Villa? Other than Hearts fans of course

The first legs are on separate days. Can they not show both?

Also the Hibs match would have UK interest rather than purely Scottish interest so would likely have higher viewing figures.

No, there's a big audience down here for the game as well, if only us Villa fans and the many local rivals that hate us and watch every minute of our matches, that's about 3m people alone, before the general interest in any 'Battle of Britain'

A lot of people south of the border watch football and would be happy to see us get stuffed in a Battle of Britain, also virtually every football fan in Scotland would want to watch it, most of whom would be rooting for us, there is a massive TV audience for this game.

Most of the midland clubs would be wanting a Hibs win. Quite a few in England would also find it funny so would be cheering us on.

Good friend of mine is a Coventry City fan from birth and had a Hibs ST for seven or eight years while living in in Edinburgh. Villa are Cov's most hated rival (although the reverse isn't true) – I think the only only person more up for the game than him is Joe Newell.

Always a strange rivalry the Coventry one. I think we started being rivals due to the fact all the other Midlands clubs were outside the Prem bar Villa and Coventry for a long time. After Birmingham and West Brom came back the Cov rivalry was forgotten about on our part but not there's. I still hear them sing about Villa on TV while i've never heard about us sing about Coventry. The funny one is Wolves Villa who the media would have you believe is a big rivalry for viewing figures but no-one really cares about that from either side.

Yeah I guess with so many teams around Birmingham there's a bit of a web of rivalries. Who is Wolves' number one rival? Blues? I remember being in West Bromwich years ago and the graffiti suggested they were none too keen on Wolves, but I don't know how much it goes the other way.

Wolves biggest rival is West Brom and vice versa. Villa West Brom used to be the biggest rivalry mainly due to the fact they are technically the closest teams together and were the most successful for a while. The Rivalry isn't what it was West Brom probably dislike villa a bit more than Vice Versa. Villa and Blues generally hate each other and I'd say its the most fierce rivalry in England for 2 teams in the same city.

Just to confuse the issue further Blues and Wolves also have a rivalry so it's all generally confusing!

Yeah but Villa/Blues is a real cross town rivalry.
Wolves/West Brom is the 'Black Country' derby, a nasty one in it's own right.
Always feel for Coventry as they are stuck out slightly detached from the big metro area and all of the other clubs have more immediate and natural rivals.

Surprised Coventry/Leicester isn't a big match up as they are in a similar boat. Always consider Forest as their main rivals, but for Forest fans it's all about Derby County.

It used to be tasty in the centre of Brum when (pre-successful) Leicester City visited to play Villa.

Most Police I've seen at a game was when Man Utd played Birmingham City in a cup game.

On the Luzern thread, some folk made mention you can’t access iPlayer outside the UK and even some VPNs don’t work? Any idea what VPNs work with iPlayer? I’m away on holiday and was banking on the legs being switched.

I do have my tablet with my IPTV provider on it but we’ve found it a bit patchy here.

I asked my Cov-supporting mate about them and Leicester (prompted by a photo of half-and-half scarves on sale outside their recent league game…) and he said there is a significant dislike of Leicester but that it's generational – younger fans hate them because they've been successful recently but generally older fans aren't that bothered. Not sure how Leicester feel about it.

Makes you appreciate the simplicity of a proper city derby between clubs of similar stature – they hate us, we hate them. The filthy maroon pricks.

I make you about right but will add that Villa - West Brom is the oldest rivalry really, going back to contesting cup finals in the Victorian era, and the Hawthorns is about the same distance from Villa Park as St Andrews.

Plus the Albion have actually had some decent teams and players down the years.

I would say so yes Millwall West Ham is obviously bad but as a London Centric country gets a lot of coverage and so on due to past hooligan firms. Villa Blues recently has meant part of stadiums being closed for games and dozens of arrests at games. I guess the Grealish punch and Villa fans invading the Villa Park complex when Mcleish went from Blues to Villa sums it up.

I've always found that rivalry more relevant if you are from North Birmingham as I'm from South there is hardly many West Brom fans around just a lot more blues in contrast to other parts of Birmingham.
