Unseen work

A massive positive for me from today.
Think he won everything in the air. Defended his box well, made good interceptions and tackles and was just overall really solid and it looked like his main thought was first things first defend the situation.
On the ball he was driving forward and playing nice forward passes and seemed to grow in confidence.
With our defence being really poor so far this season, he could end up playing his way into the team if that’s how he plays.

Agreed, a definite plus for me today, a centre half that can play football as well.

I thought he did well, he’s a no nonsense centre half. He’s not going to improve though sitting on the bench

Yeah he was really good.
Would like to see more of him, maybe in a back 3.

wonder how a 3 would play with Fish & Hanlon?

I think the CBs would be fine, our trouble is we don’t have a RWB. Boyle is absolutely wasted there and Miller is every bit a defender first. Once Cadds is back, perhaps it’s an option, but we’re not suited to it just now IMO.

Hopefully Hanlon’s successor. Thought he was calm and astute. Look forward to seeing more of him!

Not a chance he’s massively right footed. And this isn’t a pro Hanlon thing. We need a left footed CB to play progressive football.

Did he lose a single ariel battle? Good on the deck as well and burst through midfield once or twice. Looks to be a good signing.

Good to hear. Was only pre season but thought Megwa was excellent at CH and Harbottle average v Blackpool. Glad he got some game time and done well.

Done well and looked very good winning all in the air, clears his lines and able to take the ball out with some runs at times, he will do for me.

As opposed to hoofball when Hanlon plays?

I thought he was decent today. I’d only seen him at Blackpool and thought he looked poor there so pleased he was solid today.

Played to feet the whole first half. First time on the ball in the second he launched it upfield, which made me wonder if he'd been told that. Thereafter went back to playing it out. Really liked him.

You let yourself down with nonsense statements like that. Carry on crunch.

I thought Harbottle had a good game and seemed very comfortable with the ball . Did make a couple of good runs forward with the ball too . He looked good yesterday tbh .

You’ve posted a few belters of late yourself about LJ and the way we play. He plays PH all the time, when have you ever see him play out of defence the way Porto and Bushiri can. It’s a big left footed diagonal or a 2 yard square pass.

He may be no- nonsense but think thats doing him a dis-service. The boy can play. Very comfortable on the ball and brought it out from the back several times to get things going.

I don't think that's true.
Hanlon's always been good at playing out from the back, carries the ball comfortably too. He's certainly not inferior to Bushiri in this respect.

PH has never been one to carry the ball out of defence on a regular game to game basis, have you seen him do it lately?

In the "3 at the back" under Lennon, Hanlon and Ambrose bringing the ball out from the back was a big part of our play and he did it well.
Fair enough, he doesn't do it so much now but I don't think it's because he can't, it's either because we have dysfunctional midfield or a manager who favours a more direct approach.
