I’m watching the Villa game and was thinking if Des Bremner (what a Hibs player) went on to win the European Cup with Villa.

Hope Des Bremner is a Hibs guest if we get through. Loved his style of physical play! I will stand and applaud a Hibs great.

Why did he get a mention?
Not sure. I had returned to room after getting a beer and they mentioned the Des Bremner derby? Sorry do no context just heard that.
The subject was then changed back to game in hand!

Why did he get a mention?
The two club connection.
Older Villa fans will recall the genius that was the Great Willie Hamilton.
Finest and most skillful footballer i saw in a Hibs jersey.
We sold them some wonderful footballers in the past ,including Des and Sojer.
I think they should name one of their stands after us !
When we knock them out the Conference, they might come back for more plunder :greengrin

Bremner was a class act. Shows how good the Tornadoes were that he only really established himself at ER after they'd broken up. I was a wee bit young to really remember the Tornadoes so Des was one of my first Hibs favourites.
Something of an old fashioned Holywood/Errol Flynn type look about him.
The commentator was mentioning John McGinn and his connection to Hibs and the result we had in Europe. He said if Hibs meet Villa it should be called The Des Bremner Derby.

Alex Cropley was also at Aston Villa.
Des lived round the corner from me when he was with Hibs.

Also, as someone else pointed out, was Willie Hamilton. Ulises de la Cruz netted us a few million when he moved there. Can't recall if Johnny Macleod (another 60s player) was at Villa before or after Hibs. John Burridge was a Villa player too. The only dud I can think of who was at both clubs was Joe Ward (a makeweight in the Bremner sale).
green with envy

Des came into the team at right back when John Brownlie broke his leg against East Fife.

Davy Gibson another Hibernian who moved to Villa
Des Bremner first appeared as cover for John Brownlie a raw recruit from Deveronvale in the Highland League and soon proved his worth moving into midfield as a busy industrious player covering every blade of grass for the cause going on to win the League, Champions Cup and Super Cup with Villa

Bit before my time. I only recall him as a mid to late 70s midfielder.
Did he get much game time once Brownlie returned?

Also read that a very early Hibs player 'Darlin' Willie Groves played for Villa.
You could probably just about make a team out of players who were at both clubs. Apart from Burridge it would be pretty attack minded.

Played quite regular playing 200 games as a utility man covering for right back when Brownlie for whatever reason wasn’t available

You could start a thread on Darling Willie Groves

Won the Cup with Hibs then tempted by the Celtic shilling
Scored a hat-trick for Scotland at Easter Road
Won the Cup with WBA and crossed the great divide to win the League with Villa
Returned to Hibs

Not one that I hear much about, one of the players that moved to the then newly formed Celtic.

My bad scored in a 5-1 win over Wales at Hibernian Park and a hat-trick in a 7-0 win over Ireland
Tried to check before posting and got hit by the dreaded 501 error code 😀

The lesson here is that you need a beer fridge and snack cupboard in the same room as your tv.

If that’s the case I’d need 2 fridges for downstairs!
