Anyone staying in Zurich on the Wednesday night, see the thread a bit further down the forum - in short, a boozer called Kennedys by the train station for a few beers etc. In general, I know plenty about Zurich options/things to do.

Also have travelled on Swiss trains literally thousands of times so feel free to PM me with any relevant questions

Will get to Luzern for 8/9pm Wednesday, flying EDI - Cologne - Zurich. Hopefully beers & food in Mr Pickwicks or nearby.

Probably be outside Mr Pickwicks or somewhere looking out to the Chapel Bridge, or wherever everyone is congregating, with a carryout all Thursday until game.

Fly back to Edinburgh first thing Friday from Zurich via Dusseldorf. Home for 2pm Friday afternoon.

The Djugardens fans did that and also St Johnstone back when they were there. Drinking outside is allowed and the walkway around the Reuss, where the pub sits, looks very open and ideal. Plus my wallet is not made for Swiss pint prices unfortunately :greengrin

No no, the other part of the sentence quoted is basically saying it's valid in the local zone system only, presumably Luzern centre out to the stadium

Don’t stay in the Hotel Basilea in Zurich.
In 1996 my son was playing for the Scotland Under 16s in Switzerland. I didn’t want to let on I was going to watch him so was a bit cryptic when asking information about their plans. Best he could do was tell me the squad was staying in the Hotel Basilea. He actually had the phone number too so I noted that down.
I landed late in Zurich and had got myself a really cheap hotel as close as I could find to the Hotel Basilea. Arrived there after dark and thought I’d check out their hotel. Turns out this place was right in the middle of the red lights district, not only that but the ground floor of the hotel was advertising sez shows inside. I couldn’t believe it and decided to call at reception (no really, I was concerned).
This is where it got a worse. I had a little bit of German so went to the night porter on the front desk and tried to explain I was looking for the Scottish Under 16s 😖
Maybe my poor German saved me but he didn’t seem to understand and was adamant there were no under 16s there.

I returned to my own hotel and phoned the telephone number my son had said was for their hotel, demanding to talk to someone on the Scotland coaching staff. Turned out the Hotel Basilea was a perfectly respectable place about 40 miles outside of Zurich.

I got to the game and it ended in a 2-2 draw. More importantly, I didn’t go back to the Hotel Basilea, Zurich and I have been a lot more careful with my broken German ever since.

Zurich and Lucern, both great cities but steer clear of the Hotel Basilea, Zurich.

If you have booked a specific train, like on the super save fare, it’s for only that train. The full price fares, point to point ticket, allow you to get any train.

Think it’s like 90CHF fine if you don’t have a ticket. the app for all travel easy to get an e-ticket.

Do not try to buy tickets on the train, the penalities for doing so are punitive to put it mildly.

Download the SBB app and link it to a card and you can buy them easily. There's also a feature where you just swipe and activate a feature that's basedon GPS and charges you at the end of your journey the right price depending on your ticket type etc

Just looking at booking train tickets (can book them on Trainline app) but don’t want to cut it too fine for flight getting in.

My record is about 15 minutes from landing to being sat on a train. That was pre Brexit though.

Train station is part of the airport, there's no shuttle or whatever to get to it.

I totally get the majority of hibs fans travelling will be well behaved and just want a good time but we also have a few bams in our support, hopefully everyone has a good time

It is literally in the middle of nowhere. Closest bus stop is about a 20 minutes walk in total darkness away, passing some farms. A Uber would cost you around 35-45 CHF I'd say. But in the morning you could also have a stop at the Lake 'Sempachersee' and take a train from Sempach-Neuenkirch then. Or visit the little old town of Sursee and take a direct train from there. There is a Holiday Inn Express as well just a few hundret meters from the stadium as an alternative. (just in case you have some loyalty points program or anything like this going on with the brand)

There is a large river in the middle of the city. On one side of the river is the old town and on the other side is the new town. The old town, to the North of the city, is recommended for Hibs fans. Pickwicks, Shamrock and Anfield pubs all good locations.
If all the fans want to meet at the same place, the "Mühleplatz" is the square area nearby. This is a bigger place with restaurants and Co-op nearby.

New Town to the South is the area of the Luzern fans.

I used to live next door, 68 Lorne Street.

It used to be dearer to drink in Copper's lounge than the bar.

My first flat was in 68 Lorne St. Closest I’ve lived to the front door of a pub. Stuck at work jealous of all those on the peev in Lucern regardless of how much a pint costs!

As Scottish fans did not comply with police orders on their way to the stadium, "the Luzern police used water cannons and fired three shots after a verbal warning," as stated in the press release. In their press release, the police express self-criticism regarding the use of this measure. They state, "According to initial findings, these distant shots would not have been necessary. The Luzern police will critically examine this incident in their own analysis." No one was injured. In the video, you can hear the Luzern police firing rubber bullets before the Thursday game.Video: Citizen Reporter (Luzern, August 17, 2023)Even before the game, two citizen reporters had criticized the police's actions: "Another senseless use of rubber bullets. Once again, bystanders are caught in the crossfire of the police," someone who witnessed the incident on Moosmattstrasse criticized. And a 34-year-old told the "Luzerner Zeitung": "I was walking a few hundred meters ahead of the Scottish fan block toward Allmend when we suddenly came under fire." The group even made hand signals and signs to de-escalate. According to the eyewitness, a few fans had simply taken a wrong turn because they apparently didn't know the way to the stadium. Immediately, the police set up a barricade and aimed rubber bullets and the water cannon at the crowd.Criticism had already been directed at the police after the FC Luzern's first qualifying match against Djurgardens IF from Sweden on August 3, when the police also used rubber bullets to separate the two sets of fans after the game at Allmend. An FC Luzern supporter reportedly got hit in the eye by a rubber bullet projectile. He subsequently had to undergo surgery.According to the Luzern police, around 850 Scottish guests were in Luzern on Thursday for the game against Hibernian Edinburgh, some of whom had arrived in Luzern on Wednesday. According to the police, several identity checks were conducted on Wednesday evening, and about half a dozen people were informally expelled from the Old Town. According to police reports, the city of Luzern remained peaceful after the game on Thursday.Scottish fans are heading toward the city center after the game. It remained peaceful.Video: Citizen ReporterThe Luzern police had announced a week ago that they would have to close police stations during the current week due to resource constraints caused by the football match against the Scottish team. However, for European matches involving FC Luzern, the Luzern police no longer need to allocate personnel: After the draw in the rematch against Hibs from Scotland, FC Luzern bid farewell to the European competition. Now, there are only league and possibly cup games in Luzern that could require police intervention.

Wow, I didn't realise they'd let off two rubber bullets! To be fair, they've received a lot of criticism from the local press and have admitted they were a bit 'over the top'. ------------------------ Our fans were purely out for a party last night and there was no threat to anybody.First time they actually admit an unnecessary use of rubber guns. Took 5 eyes of supporters within the last 2 years for our media to actually address this topic.I can admit, the atmosphere was pretty friendly and had a few conversations and pints with some of yous both on Wednesday and after the game at Shamrock. Police made everything a bit chaotic and people angry with their aggressivity and attack against the Scottish march. Hence the improvised banner of Luzern fans after about 10 minutes, which was addressed at the local police chief and his declaration of a 'high risk game'. "The only high risk is Adi A." (Adi Achermann is his name)https://fcl.fan-fotos.ch/fotos/24_fotos/2023-08-17-fcluzern-hibernianfc/original/20.jpgAfter the game, I just saw some drunk Scots and Luzern fans fighting which seemed to have started with the Scotsmen insulting the Swiss. But nothing too serious, looked more like a pub brawl.Except for the other story of Cardinal G I didn't see any problems. Those *******s attacking them must have been some wannabies, because the ultras were already gone and walked back to their pub calmly. In the end, this was an unnecessary incident within some brilliant days both at Edinburgh and Luzern. Gotta love the Conference League, where you get to see new places, new stadia and can compete with teams on a similar level. Unfortunately for us, we messed up with our defence just being ridiculous. Hibs played pretty clever over the course of the 2 games and deserve to advance because of their discipline and team effort on the pitch. We will be back and hopefully learn from our mistakes. Still a very young team with many local lads from our academy that can improve. Enjoy Birmingham!

Atmosphere was great, and didn't see a hint of problems other than the police at that one brief moment, presumably determined to get use of their toys. All the Luzern fans we met were friendly, and when we eventually got let out there were handshakes & mutual applause with those who were still around.

The above is a pretty accurate reflection of what happened.

1. Hibs fans were following Google maps to the stadium which was the quickest route.
2. We went the wrong way and the polis blared their sirens
3. Within a matter of seconds the water cannons and rubber bullets were being fired ( I didn't realise it was rubber bullets and thought it was flash bangs or some other threatening *****.)
4. I'm a 41 year old man who's never been in any bother and was probably the soberisr person that witnessed all this as I just arrived.

Arrived home yesterday about 6pm, via KLM, Zurich->Amsterdam->Edinburgh. Saw the Hibs players at Zurich Airport [emoji106]

Only complaints were the police & their water cannons / rubber bullets wtf?! We were walking straight down a road with no indication of a left turn. The police should have closed that road off, but didn't.

And also got a ticket for a seat that didn't exist, seats went 26, 27, 28, 32, 33, no 29-31 ridiculous. Will raise with the club to get a refund from Luzern.

Other than, was a great 2 night trip.

Luzern was short but sweet. The atmosphere in the cage was great and the walk back into town was good natured when I encountered home fans, sorry to hear about the Hibs fans who were attacked, Had a wander round the old town early Friday morning since I never had a chance before the game, stunning.

Friday I got the train to Kaiserslautern and caught their 3-2 victory against elversberg. Great game and atmosphere at a stadium full of character and 42000 attendance in Bundesliga 2. Had way too much beer, at €5 a pop, and bockwurst.

Headed to Stuttgart this morning and dumped my bag in a locker at the station. Got the free U bahn out to the MHP arena, hungover and sweating like ****. I feel sorry for the security boy that had to search me  A few more €5 euro beers and an absolutely superb currywurst complemented a 5-0 win against Bochum. Missed the first two goals cos I was in the beer queue

Brilliant, honestly making me emotional watching that, one of the best moments I've had at a Hibs game celebrating that goal.

Why is that its left to fans to capture these celebrations on phone cameras from other stands though. TV companies always cut straight to the player but they should also have a camera trained on the fans too for a stretch after a goal. It's what people want to see and shows what the game is really all about.
