A proper striker who’s telling his team mates where he wants the ball and anticipates where the ball is going to be.

Dilemma for LJ or our next manager is how you fit him in the team and slot in Doidge (who played well with ALF), Youann, Boyle and Vente.

Did what he was signed to to do yesterday - come off the bench and impact the game in the closing stages. That will be his role for the rest of the season. Vente will be our starting centre forward.

Done brilliant when he came on and that’s a very good and difficult chance he scored, ball going away from him and first time diverts it into the opposite corner.

Showed why we signed him.

Well done on your first goal, first of many.

I've been pretty critical of the ALF signing on here and was chuffed to see him coming on yesterday. But thought he did well and was actually impressed with what he offered. Took his goal well too.

Thought he was good when he came on yesterday. Good goal and good movement all round. Looked sharp I thought.

I don’t think that’s the dilemma as it’s very unlikely the 5 of them will be on the pitch at the same time at any point all season. If it’s a struggle to choose who gets the places because they’re all playing well - good 👍

Struck up a really good understanding with Doidge, be very surprised if that’s not our front 2 for Thursday

His movement was very good and I thought he gave us some much needed swagger.

Goal was excellent

Made the pass to Doidge and then went half the length of the pitch to get on the end of the return. Excellent.Showed our “attacking midfield “ what they should be doing.

Newell played the ball through to Doidge did he not?

No.

Right enough you're spot on. Newell played the ball to ALF who then played Doidge out wide. Great goal really.

Nice ball from Newell-first time pass from Alf -then off like a train. Like turning the clock back:greengrin

To call his goal anything less than excellent is underplaying it. On the run, first time, putting it back across the goalie. Bloody easy to mess up, very hard to find the bottom corner

That's a FANTASTIC team...

As long as the opposition don't play any midfield.

If they do, we're pumped!! 😂

It was not only a fantastic finish but it really was a great move! Newell done well, Le Fondres pass out to Doidge (actually played IN FRONT!!! 😁👍👍) and then Doidges perfect cross into Alf and then the sublime finish. In a very poor day result wise it was a definite highlight. He'll score a decent amount for us this season and prove all the people who have been spouting negative comments about him because of his age, wrong.

It surprised me because I was alarmed by how terrible I'd thought ALF was in Andorra.

TBF though - it was another time when he was playing that central striker role, largely hung out to dry with little support and the midfield were having a nightmare.

I know this 3 / 1 up front thing is fashionable but it seems to be that very few strikers are actually comfortable playing it, so many we've had just look better in a pair, like on Saturday.

Haven’t seen Vente other than on video, but was wondering if they don’t end up competing against each other, could we see them complementing each other?

Before Alfie kicked a ball for us I said he’d get double figures….never wavered from that view as long as he gets a reasonable amount of time on the park.

He might play well just behind a main striker. Could then sub him for Doidge who would then swap positions with Vente

Obviously scored his excellent goal but also unlucky not to score the one cleared off the line and also had a headed chance just after he scored. Different level movement and imagine will be very good in dressing room and on training pitch particularly with young strikers

A midfield that just watches the ball get pinged over them from the defence anyway!

:agree: his finish just reeked of experience. His run, his body shape and awareness of where the keeper was. Wonderful goal to watch and gets better the more you see it. That's why we signed the guy.

What I liked about him was how he used his body to give the Saints defenders a very tough time. Just about every ball played to him with his back to goal he won. Very clever player.

As others have said, it's a shame that great goal will not get the appreciation it deserves due to the final result.

Along with the goal, and his hockey style deflected effort, I was really impressed with Le Fondre's desire to win. It'd be easy for him to just come here and pick up a pay cheque in his final years but he was haring about like a youngster eager to impress.

Alfie was always looked on in Oz as a total professional.

Like any striker, he’ll miss the odd chance I suppose, but he always gave 100% no matter what, and I don’t see that changing.
