Brian McDermott posted this article this morning on his LinkedIn page and I thought it deserved to be shared amongst the .Net family.

It’s a long read about the effects of social media, particularly on Aaron Ramsdale, the Arsenal and England goalkeeper but also on all players in general.

Hugely thought-provoking, emotional and absolutely worth a read…

An interesting read.

Lessons to be learned for all of us as to how to conduct ourselves better on social media (and Hibs.net is one of those outlets).

Really interesting article.very brave and open of Aaron to do this. Certainly puts football into context and also the complete toxicity of social media. It is scandalous that so much hate can be allowed to go unchecked without governments trying to do anything about it or hold platform owners into any accountability for it.

Brilliant article, read it yesterday, very well written and intelligent guy. Never gave up, and worked his way back up from a lower level. We all know the power and negative impact that social media can have, he at least seems to have a grip on it now.

Was a good read. Cannot help but think the BMcD posted that so some on here would see it and think again before posting negatively about club/team/player etc.

This article was only published on Thursday but I’m sure Brian has also faced online criticism, so I’m sure this is aimed at everyone, not just Hibs fans.

Having said that, if it makes just one person on here reflect, then the forum will be a better place for it.

Brilliant article, open and honest.

Social media is poisonous at times especially when it comes to football. Folk thinking they can say what they like with zero regard on how it can affect someone. We’ve seen the likes of Leigh Griffiths etc come out publicly before and share how social media abuse got so bad for them it sent them into a dark dark place and to the brink of suicide.

As much as I absolutely hate to say it IMO it’s only a matter of time before someone in football takes their life because of online abuse. I’ve seen for myself some of the things that get posted. There’s football banter and there’s just plain vile unnecessary abuse and sadly too many people don’t know where the line is. If I was a professional footballer I’d probably stay off all forms of social media, it’s just toxic.
