Assuming Delferriere plays RB, can I dare to be the first to mention the "terrible trio" - the midfield combo who should work together on paper but who often struggle in practice (with the notable exception of the outstanding performance at Hampden against Rangers)?

Some in there I like, some I don't.

If it goes breasts skywards for us (which I don't think it will) there will be ammunition to shoot at Johnson. I don't think many of us can shrug our shoulders and say he's picked the strongest team available.

Big night for Doidge though, some players there who should be capable of providing him with some adequate ammunition. Let's see what he does with it, the level he plays the next few years at might depend on it...

Usual from him, strange. Was hoping Levitt would get a good 60mims under his belt and be ready for Sunday. He's been giving far too many players game time during pre season, our key players haven't had enough..fear we are going to begin the season undercooked. If he doesn't fancy players why bother giving them game time. He should know in his head his strongest 11 with 4/5 subs to come off the bench and focus on getting them fit and firing. I feel he treats cup games like pre season, this and the league cup last season he's not prepared atall.

Whilst there's stuff I don't like, I understand it.

GK - keeping faith with his experienced keeper. Not what I would have done but Marshall's probably a big character around the place. As poor as he's been, dropping him is a big call whenever it happens, which has something of an inevitable feel about it...

RB is a problem. I'm not sure it's a no brainer that Miller is our best option, Delf arguably deserves a chance to see what he can do. The rest of the defence picks itself imo.

Midfield - it's arguably 3 names out of a hat territory, this choice makes as much sense as any. I'd have gone Jeggo, Newell, Levitt but there's an argument to be made to have the 3 he's chosen and their attributes in there.

Front 3 are surely the best from what we have available?

Formation etc is familiar, presumably what we've been working on most?

TBH I don't know what to make of that team, without the context of the relative fitness or otherwise of those on the bench.

My first thought was that we could be starting a match thread in 10 years time, having signed 10 million players in the interim, none of whom were able to dislodge the current incumbents, with tonight's team on those 10 years from now team lines.

We should have more than enough to win comfortably and I am relaxed but if we are still putting out pretty much the same team in 2 or 3 weeks, alarm bells will be ringing load and clear for me.

Despite my not really fancying LJ as our manager I don't believe this will be the case but it does beg the question why do all our new signings over the fast few years struggle to a) get in the team? and b) stay there in time for the start of the season?
