Deserves a mention and thread of his own. Don’t think we’d be signing these calibre of player if he wasn’t here. Looking like a brilliant appointment so far, and long may it continue 🙌🏼

Just pleased at the moment we are no longer signing players from the likes of FC Rainbow and others who hadn't even played a game at 1st team level.

There's been a fair bit of money thrown about in recent years, some of it well spent (Doidge) and some of it not so much (Melkerson).

The willingness to spend money hasn't been an issue for a while and I don't think anyone could call into question the desire of the owners or those running the club day to day to do so. What has been an issue is how the money has been spent, fees and wages on a lot of players who haven't contributed enough.

If McDermott can get us consistently hitting more than we miss in the transfer market then he'll be doing a big part of his job well. Time will tell how good this window has really been but it seems coherent and has addressed some, if not all, of our needs. Fingers crossed we are finally on the right track after a few years of being a bit all over the place. If that proves to be true then a big part will be down to McDermott, modern day football needs someone in such a role overseeing the whole football department and pulling it together, there's a reason all the most successful clubs have someone in such a role.

Absolutely spot on, I think we are a right back and back up winger from having a realistic ambition of 3rd and the riches that brings.

I believe so, rangers run massively helped 🤢 and that will remain for 5 years from 2021. Scotland are currently sitting 9th in the European leagues above the likes of Switzerland, Austria, Serbia and Turkey. If our competing clubs(prob reliant on Rangers,Celtic & even Aberdeen) can out perform the clubs from these nations I think 3rd will mean European group stage for a couple of years yet

I can’t think of many seasons whereby we’ve pretty much reinvested the entire funds from the sale of 1 player.

Thanks. Didn't realise it counted for 5 years, we could really do with getting 3rd this season. Typical that we got it the year before it guaranteed group stages.

Agreed. I feel optimistic at this point about the business we've done and almost can't believe we've likely spent close to £1.5m on players this summer.

But if you go back to last summer there will be the same optimism about paying good money for McKirdy and Melkersen and getting Tavares on a 5 year deal.

I'm eager to see the new guys in action but I'm still a bit uncertain about the overall squad depth, and we have a number of new players that need to adapt to the SPL.

Should be an interesting season though!

Agree with others that we’ll only know how good a job he’s done once we’ve seen if the players are actually any good.

I’ve been quite positive about what we’ve done in this window, or at least the way that we’ve went about things, but we really need the players to deliver now.

I don’t think 3rd guarantees group stages.

Winning the cup takes priority and guarantees group stages however if one of the OF win the cup then it goes to 3rd in the league.

I think we still need a midfielder who is going to create in the final third of the pitch.levitt might be that player, but I don't see any of the others doing it enough, and Levitt will have to get forward much more than I feel he will do playing where the manager seems to see him playing.

I quite like the look of the guys we’ve signed this summer. I still think we’re a couple short though, mainly a new centre mid, a right back and a backup striker.

I did post elsewhere though that on paper, you could argue last summer looked even better at the time. It wasn’t though, it was a crap window, this one could turn out to be the same, so it’s far too early for claims of best window ever etc.

B McD’s next task is to clear a few out, which won’t be so easy.
We may have to wait until nearer the end of the month for those departures, even if the players in question already realise they have no future at ER.
Hopefully Vente is the answer at no.9 but I reckon a lot rides on Boyle getting back to his best.

Agree with this but my point re the Gordon's is that they have coughed for Vente just like they have for Youan.

Vente has a far greater track record than duds like Jair, Kenneh and Co.

I listened to Brian talk at the Changing Rooms event last night. Very impressed with him as a man and someone I can see bringing success to the club. Even this early it feels like there is more method in our dealings and he talked brilliantly about the way he welcomed players and the need to have a positive environment. One interesting point was around Social Media and how it can affect players. It certainly made me think about the comments I have made about players and will inform me in the future. Everything about the staff at Hibs both in terms of the Community work and the football side seems to be positive for me. So many good people who seem to have bought into Hibs. Hopefully that translates into positive results.

A real student of the game is Brian. Met him once and was very impressed with his thoughts on football. If you get the chance to speak to him Im pretty sure you'll come away impressed and with positive thoughts.

Has to deliver obiously. There's also more to his role than just our transfer activity.

That's what he did as 'chief scout' at Reading and was a huge part of that club's most successful period in its history both under Coppell and subsequently under the man himself.

It looks like McDermott is already proving his mettle as we seem to be acting with real decisiveness this summer - however, the window in January was also a success and those already in the building - in particular JOHNSON - deserve credit for that. And it is pretty curmudgeonly - not to mention deluded - to suggest that LJ has not also had plenty of influence over who is targetted in this window too.

All in all though - regardless of who gets the credit - it's a treat to see some talent coming in the door who actually looks like they will make an impact on the team with immediate effect! Lets hope the likes of Vente, Levitt and others live up to their considerabe promise.

Of course - the Gordons also deserve to be acknowedged for loosening the purse strings and showing some ambition on behalf of the club.

That looks like we go from 1 in the EL and 2 in the Conf League, to 2 and 1, and losing in the EL means you get a second chance at the Conf League. This all happening also due to the Russkies careering down the coefficient

Completely agree with everything you’ve said. However, in order to take advantage of the big money we’ve spent there are still a couple of pieces of the jigsaw to go. A right back/wing back and an attacking midfielder. Get them in and we really are looking good.

To put a bit of context to this, myself and Dave Thompson facilitate a lot of the SoS/Changing Room stuff at Hibs.

We had the chance to have Brian along we both suggests it would be later on in the year as we were right bang in the middle of the transfer window, probably the most scrutiniesed one in Hibs recent history. Brian wanted this done sooner rather than later which is a testament to the man.

It could well have been an event that was ticketed and sold but he declined this. He was expected to be here at 6:30 but was there earlier. He spoke to fans before and after it and gave us a heads up about a certain transfer that was about to be announced at 7pm on Monday night! He stayed a wee bit later than planned too.

During his talk he spoke passionately about the club, the supporters and the community. Also his desire to bring in people as opposed to players.

His talk, his mental health journey and his presence was a massive lift for this in attendance me included.

He gets Hibs and what the club means to the fans and community.

Totally agree but if it does not go well I await the square pegs\round holes, the who should go Johnston, McDermott or both debates

Celtic and Rangers will be absolutely miles ahead of everyone again this season.

I'd be very surprised if either doesn't win the Scottish, so I think 3rd will get guaranteed group stage again.

I agree, I find it amazing that they haven’t played each other in a Scottish Cup final since 2002. That surely is due to happen again soon

The Rangers & Celtic met in the SC Semi Final in 2016. Think The Rangers won through to the Final, but can't recall if they won the cup. Andy Halliday thought he'd won it.

It remains to be seen how well he does the job, but I love his attitude and the way he speaks - the whole getting good people, creating a good culture/atmosphere within the club idea. Obviously I hope he succeeds, because I'm a Hibee, but I really hope he succeeds because he's voicing the priorities that I value and think should lead to long term, sustainable success.

Brian's post on LinkedIn.

So pleased for everyone involved at Hibernian Football Club . The Gordan family, the manager, staff, players and fans who made it a great night at Easter Road.

We had a real difficult time in Andorra losing the first leg. Nobody wanted to make excuses. What I can say is, this is football , no team has any entitlement to beat another. The sense of determination and desire, to
make things right, around the training ground this week , was tangible.

I loved the atmosphere this evening. There was real sense of comaraderie between the players and supporters. If we can harness that ,in the good and the bad times , we will all be on to a winner .

Delighted for Martin Boyle, to come back, after a long injury lay off and score two goals. A big thank you to all of you who supported the team this evening.

Early days but he has the signs of being a highly successful appointment for the club.
