I think most of us will agree that Hanlon will not play every game, Lewis as well, don't think anyone else could be a good captain so who would you bring in

Unless injured or suspended I think he will play every game, Newall or maybe even Boyle when Hanlon isn't available

He's got too much responsibility carrying this team by himself atm so let him concentrate on that. Never thought I'd say that about Joe Newell

I thought when we were after Williams that he could be a new captain, really can't think who we could bring in but really haven't had a born leader for a while

While I’d personally not choose the goalkeeper does it actually matter who the captain is ?

Those in here who have played football at bit of a decent level might be able to answer this from experience.
My take on it from being a fan is that a truly excellent leader as a captain can make a huge difference, with players like Lampard, Terry, Kahn, Deschamps, Puyol, Maldini standing out to me as players who made a huge difference to their team not only through football ability but through great leadership.
I’m really not sure the difference between the likes of Hanlon, Marshall, Newell makes any real impact but I could be wrong. A player with a bit experience and leadership ability should be showing that when needed with or without an armband on.

I think the fact they were all outstanding footballers suggests that actually their captaincy didn’t make a lot of difference. I’m struggling to think of any captains that weren’t as good as their teammates that made a difference. Look at Maguire for example.

A good leader and captian makes a decent sized difference imo. They set standards and maintain it.
Mcgregor at Celtic is a good example. 8/10 every week, best trainer supposedly and very vocal.
I think Newell is the standout. He seems to be the one doing a lot of post match interviews when we lose, he's not scared to take ownership, vocal on the park, leads by example especially the last 12 months or so.
The video put on twitter asking the youth lads who they look up to was eye opening. I think all but one said Newell. Megwa said Rocky but I'm sure they're good pals.

We need a Scott Brown character. Paul Hanlon has been more than a decent player for Hibs but as player he is a few seasons past his best. Hes too quiet we need a real leader on the pitch something weve not had for sometime.

Your final sentence I’m in total agreement with. That’s why I said I don’t believe who the captain is actually matters. Roy Keane for example would have been the same player whether he had the armband or not.

Watch the video on Youtube when they mic'd him up for one of the preseason games. Never stops coaching and praising the team. Quiet guy off the pitch, leader on it.
He's also still class. Him and fish are an outstanding partnership. Only choice as captain imo.

I like Paul mate and think hes served us very well. Just think hes a shade past it and we need to move forward, he can be bullied against an aggressive CF as a player znd I still think we need a more out front Captain. To improve i think we need to move on.

😂😂😂 you have never played football son, that video was nothing special, anyone can talk their way through a game of football. Wonder what he was saying last night or in the other major embarrassments against malmo and the 1-5 final That’s when it counts, and he doesn’t have it unfortunately

As much as I don't think halon should be captain these comments are ridiculous, I have played and to a decent standard and not everyone can talk their way through a game of football. What level did you get to that makes you the oracle

No. It really doesn’t. It’s an admin task. Anyone’s that’s played football will tell you that leaders don’t always have arm bands.

Don't know how much it would cost and haven't looked to see how long he has till the end of his contract but the Blackpool centre half Marvin something might be just what we are looking for

Marvin Ekpiteta, in the last year of his contract, suspect he may be out of our price range given the money we seem to be spending this window
