View Full Version : What's the most embarrassing exit for a Scottish club in Europe?

Recently I can recall Killie going out to Welsh part timers Quay Nomads and Well going out to Sligo Rovers, while going further back the yams went out to a Maltese team and I'm sure the sheep have had at least one minnow knock them out.
The list of Scottish humiliations is long but if we fail to progress in this tie would it be the worst yet?

Birkirkara. Were they not Maltese tho? Or did a Cypriot team put them out too?

I believe Inter Escaldes are ranked below Birikana or however you spell it. Fortunately I can't see us not scoring 3 at least next week.

Malta has a population of 5 times the team has we played tonight, we should sit this one out. A country with a population of less than fits into Wembley beat us tonight! That is shocking we shouldnt be trying to deflect this atol

Yes, that has to be worst. Worse than our result today, and they knocked The Rangers out! :greengrin

Pretty sure they had a lad from Ivory Coast playing.

Statistically tonight is the second worst result for a Scottish club in Europe.
Only Celtics defeat to Lincoln Red Imps came against a club from a nation with a lower coefficient.

Malmo was a worse result imo

Not for me. That was a pumping on a night everything went wrong; but they were a good side from a good league. Defeat to Andorran side is totally different.

How does that change the size of a country? Malta humped Andorra when they last played. We lose next week and it’s curtains, 7k a week for someone to play newells position worse than he does? This was the worse result we have ever had. Johnson and Marshall should make their own way home, melkerson should stop in Norway aswel and not bother coming back.

Kilmarnock against Connah's Quay Nomads I'd say.

The sign-off on the BBC live feed sums it up:
"We've become conditioned to this haven't we? The endless cycle of humiliating defeats for Scottish teams in Europe continues."

So many to chose from. The one that springs to mind is Celtic losing to the Gibraltar team, I think that’s the biggest ever humiliation and biggest disparity between two clubs. They eventually won the tie over two legs and suspect (pray) we will also!
Rangers brining pumped by the Luxembourg team and Hertz going out to the Maltese mob are the best for actually being knocked out over 2 legs.
Killy against the League of Wales team was cringy. Notable mentions to Perth Saints being pumped by a Lithuanian mob and The Sheep being eliminated by Bohemians.
I’m sure I’ve missed plenty

We will still win the tie. I still thought we would at 2-0, I’d be astounded if we don’t at 2-1.
No surprises on who started this thread.
If we don't progress it will definitely be up there, I'd argue worse, than the Niederkorn, Connah's Quay & Birkirkara results.
We go through and, frustrating as it was tonight, it'll go down as a mere footnote on our rampage towards group stage football 😜

BBC Scotland appear to be loving this mind.
Kind of get the impression that they will be willing us to lose next week.

All media want our teams to be either awesome or embarrassing. That's where the clicks, viewers and listeners are.

Every Scottish club in Europe has suffered some humiliating defeats. We should be accustomed to them by now.

We’re not out yet so until next week we’re safe from this conversation imo.
It has to be Progres V Rangers considering rangers budget. To go out over 2 legs to them was atrocious.
Seen Malmo mentioned but that’s nowhere near it imo, much like Alkmaar for DU isn’t either. Two very handy sides.

By club (at least ten games), I would say:
Celtic: Artmedia
Rangers: Progres
Aberdeen: Bohemians
Dundee Utd: AZ
Hibs: Malmo
Hearts: Birkirkara
Dunfermline: FH
Kilmarnock: Connah's Quay
Motherwell: Sligo
Dundee: Sartid
St Johnstone: Trakai
St Mirren: Mechelen
Partick: Brno

Gretna getting pumped 5 1 at home off Derry was a bad one

I think most Scottish teams knocked out by diddy teams are against teams who are already playing competitive games before meeting our clubs!
This is the hardest part of Euro qualifying in the early stages.
Some of the teams are half way through their season when they meet our clubs, so have a big advantage against ring rusty early season players!!!

Derry City are a bigger club than Gretna could ever have hoped to be.
