I’ve been reading a few of the headlines on AI recently and I am curious on peoples opinions of it.
A lot of concern that it will change and impact peoples jobs and income, however is this any different to what my generation went through in the mid 1980’s to early 1990’s when computers were in their infancy in the workplace; and now I would say there are very few professions that can operate without them.
I think it will impact practical skills as I noticed that with computers that it opened up industries to individuals that had computer skills but not the practical skills to do the same job pre computers. As an example I trained as a draughtsman in the 1970s where drawing boards were still the norm and you had to have a degree of talent and skill to produce a good drawing. Along comes computers and CAD and you didn’t need to be able to operate a drawing board, write neatly and understand how to construct and layout a drawing anymore but if you could operate a computer you could now be part of an industry that perhaps previously you couldn’t. I think this has happened in many fields look at music with sampling and voice changing and modulation software.
I think AI is here to stay, is it unstoppable? should we fear it or embrace it?
Hasta la Vista baby.

We have to embrace and, critically, regulate.
If ignore or try to dampen then we will make things even worse - China, Russia etc will have no such qualms.
It has the potential to radically transform our lives in very positive ways, but I do fear this becoming another way to make the rich richer at the expense of everyone else.
For me, advances in AI need to focus on the greater good, equitable income distribution (almost certainly UBI) and a complete overall of our economic and social model.
Easy peasy then 😂😂

It could be used to make peoples lives so much better. But like other things throughout history that were supposed to achieve the same aim, it won't. It'll be used as a tool to make the already obscenely rich even richer and will be used to manipulate and control the masses.

It will also be currently getting wired in to ever more sophisticated weaponry.

AI technology is quite incredible.
Lets find out what the opinion of my Powerful Online Encyclopedia bot is regarding your post.
The concerns and discussions surrounding the impact of AI on jobs and industries are indeed significant. It is natural to draw parallels between the introduction of computers in the workplace during the 1980s and 1990s and the current rise of AI technology. However, there are certain nuances and considerations that differentiate the two scenarios.
Firstly, AI has the potential to automate tasks and functions that were previously considered uniquely human, including complex cognitive tasks. This automation extends beyond routine jobs and can affect a wide range of professions, from customer service to data analysis. Unlike computers, which primarily aided human productivity, AI has the capacity to replace human labor in certain areas altogether.
Secondly, AI possesses the ability to learn and adapt, leading to concerns about the long-term impact on job markets. While computers required human operators to input and execute commands, AI systems can continuously improve and operate autonomously. This raises questions about the future demand for human labor in an AI-driven world.
That being said, it is essential to recognize that AI also brings numerous benefits. It can enhance productivity, improve efficiency, and enable new possibilities in various domains. The transformative potential of AI should not be underestimated. It has the capacity to revolutionize industries, enable breakthroughs in healthcare, drive innovation, and tackle complex societal challenges.
To navigate the impact of AI, it is crucial to focus on adaptation and reskilling. Embracing AI involves recognizing its potential and finding ways to harness its capabilities for the betterment of society. This includes investing in education and training programs that equip individuals with the skills necessary to work alongside AI systems, as well as fostering a culture of lifelong learning and adaptability.
Additionally, it is vital to ensure that the benefits and risks of AI are distributed equitably. Policies and regulations should be put in place to address concerns such as job displacement, income inequality, and ethical implications. By taking a proactive and thoughtful approach, we can maximize the benefits of AI while minimizing potential drawbacks.

I am almost certainly a consciously aware biological organism, but the Robot that responded to you can be found on this website here. https://poe.com/
I used the bot called ChatGPT. I quite simply copied your post and pasted it into ChatGPT's message box and asked the bot to give its opinion on your post, and I then copied and pasted its opinion to you.

Quite amazing but this is a concern of mine that the response is, to be honest, eloquent. If you hadn’t qualified the message as having been generated by the bot I would have quite happily accepted it as having been written by yourself or any other sentient being. Who knows how long a conversation could have continued for and where it would lead.
So as clever and impressive it is, as AI develops and “learns” I fear it could ultimately be used for many of the wrong reasons particularly extortion and scamming. So many interactions are faceless now with emails and social media in time it will be very difficult to tell what is real and what is fake.

My concern actually goes beyond online artificial intelligence, and extends to the future when AI humanoids will become a reality. I can already forsee a spike in paranoia and mental health issues such as schizophrenia as it will become increasingly harder to distinguish between a consciously aware human-being and an unconscious AI humanoid. I can also forsee a spike in violent crimes, potentially even murder, as more and more cases of human-beings wrongfully believeing that friends or even family may be an AI humanoid become a reality.
For this reason I think we need to make a law pretty soon that the creation of AI humanoids should be outlawed. A robot should always be distinct from a human-being in appearance, and should always be built with features that we can recognise, such as those with c3po in Star Wars.

We're already at that point now. Faces and voices can be so easily stolen and manipulated through the use of algorithms. My concern is how this will be used and abused in the political world. World leaders could be made to look like they're saying anything in an endless propaganda war.
