A great interview with Gary Neville published this morning where he opens up on his mental health battle after traumas experienced throughout his childhood.
The media and people in general are quick enough to pick out on footballers for being 'finished' etc without having an understanding of what that individual is experiencing within their life.
Credit to Dele for opening up in hope that it can help others suffering from mental illness.

Just started it, looks like it's going to be a tough watch.

It has certainly opened my eyes a bit. I didn't expect that to be the extent of his personal issues, it just goes to show behind the smiley face and the happy guy on the pitch there can be a total different story. I knew he was adopted at a young age and read he had seen difficult things due to his mum's issues. You could see him starting to struggle a few years ago and knew as times went on something wasn't quite right. Hopefully he can get himself back into the zone and find his love again within himself, then for football because he was a great player. I think the English media's pressure and treatment don't help their footballers at times - especially Dele.

Yes, good on him for being so open and honest. This will surely inspire others to open up as well and to seek help. I’m so glad that people (particularly men) are talking about mental health more and more, albeit a long way to go.

Incredibly moving interview.
Given what he went through as a child, it’s almost a miracle he made it to the level he did as a footballer. To suffer from what he has, to then reach the absolute pinnacle as a footballer in representing his country at the World Cup is testament to him.
Genuinely wish him all the best, I loved watching him under Pochettino at Spurs and if he can get back to that level with a smile on his face and his “demons” conquered it’ll be an inspiration.

Just watched this. As someone who has suffered with addiction in the past as well, I take my hat off to him to talk about that in front of (not physically but he’d have known the reach this would have) millions of people. Hope he takes care of himself and keeps himself right, he’s done the hard bit now.

Very brave boy for doing this. I hope that this helps him to get to a better place.

Sadly, a large part of the reason he did this was that the gutter press had gotten a hold of the story and were looking to publish it themselves, so he did this pre-emptively.
A very difficult watch at times but it's great to hear he's in a better place and relishing football again. He was a serious talent a few years ago and it would be great to see him return to that kind of form as he was an exciting player to watch.

Can only echo sentiments of the earlier posts. Really incredible what he's already achieved with his start in life.
I do wonder if he's going to get the chance at Everton though. Apparently once he plays another 10 games, Everton would need to pay £10m more. And another £10/15m once he hits another 25 after that?! Something along those lines but sounds like they'd need to renegotiate that deal or he'll need to move on again.
No wonder Everton are in the sh*t, making deals like that.

Just watched that very moving and incredible he has got to where he has with his initial upbringing which was horrific. Also shows you how resilient young kids can be after achieving what he has given his past experiences. He certainly has a lot to thank what his adopted family did for him and must have been heartnreaking for them that he didn't open up to them when things weren't going great. Hope it works out well for him irrespective of his football career.
