Just back in the hoose. Decent game today but just a training game really. We were a lot better in the 2nd half. McAllister looked decent but a bit lightweight, Melkersen look good, the McIntyres done well with the time they had and Doidge got 2 decent goals and set up a third. Not gonna get excited as Edinburgh offered little up front. I think their lack of quality lead to us losing our shape a lot but to no real ill effect. Good to see so many youngsters in the squad today too. Also Obita looks like a competent and physical option for us on the left, I saw a couple of Edinburgh boys bounce off him when tackling him. Great afternoon out and a healthy walk home to finish it off.

The Hibees came from two goals down to win our first pre-season match 4-2 against Edinburgh City on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from former Hibees Innes Murray and Ryan Shanley saw the hosts race into a two-goal lead at Meadowbank Stadium.

Elias Melkersen pulled one back before half-time and second-half goals from Christian Doidge (2) and Dan Mackay saw us comfortable victors.

Boss Lee Johnston will be pleased with the scoring contributions of all three players after they returned from loan spells elsewhere last term.

Lee Johnston’s first half team selection was a mix of youth and experience. New recruits Jojo Wallacott and Adam Le Fondre started whilst Max Boruc and Jordan Obita were on the bench.

Hibs Starting XI: Wallacott, Miller, Jeggo, Stevenson, Le Fondre, Melkersen, Campbell, Bushiri, McAllister, Hastie, Youan.

Hosts Edinburgh started brightly with Shanley meeting Murray’s cross inside the opening 50 seconds forcing Wallacott into an early save.

At the other end, we almost opened the scoring when Reuben McAllister's cross found Le Fondre and his header crashed back off the near post.

We kept pressing for an opener as Elie Youan fired just over with a free kick - his effort clipping the crossbar on its way over the bar.

The movement of former Hibees Shanley and Murray was causing us a lot of issues as the back and both forced Wallacott into saves.

The deadlock was broken on 22 minutes when Murray pounced on a slack clearance and drove a low finish beyond the diving frame of Wallacott and into the far corner of the net.

We tried to respond quickly with Youan flashing a volley just wide, Melkersen going close with an angled strike and Le Fondre’s fierce shot rippling the side netting.

Former Edinburgh player Josh Campbell then went close with an effort from the edge of the box before Edinburgh doubled their lead.

Robbie Leitch spotted the run of Shanley in behind us and despite the best efforts of Stevenson, he calmly finished past Wallacott.

Almost immediately we pulled one back as Lewis Miller’s driven cross was diverted onto the crossbar by the outstretched foot of Le Fondre and Melkersen followed it in to head into the unguarded net.

Johnson sent our a new team for the second half as he tried to get as many minutes into the legs of his players as possible.

Second half team: Marshall, Hanlon, Obita, Megwa, Henderson, Kenneh, Newell, Molotinkov, Delferriere, Doidge, Mackay.

We started the second period on the front foot as MacKay raced through in the angle only to be denied by Sam Ramsbottom.

We drew level on 51 minutes when Obita's cutback found Ewan Henderson on the edge of the box and although he sliced his shot it fell fortuitously to Doidge to slot in from close range.

Eleven minutes later we were in front. Doidge showed tenacity and persistence on the left and from his cut back Mackay slotted it away.

We continued to press and appeared the most likely to score next as Mackay stabbed just wide from a Paul Hanlon cross.

In the final ten minutes, Nohan Kenneth put Doidge in on goal only for Ramsbottom to read the danger and save bravely at his feet.

Against the run of play City almost snatched a leveller as Elihah Anukam’s shot came back off the far post before being cleared to safety.

Hanlon headed wide from a Joe Newell cross before Doidge grabbed his second of the afternoon with a close-range finish four minutes from time.

The Easter Road side today announced five promising youngsters on their first professional contracts. They posed up for pictures with their shirts and supports couldn't help but notice one of them, Rudi Molotnikov, had the number 51. That may seem very innocent to many but the reason for the reaction is of course down to Jambos ski sloped nosed pint pulling barman Skacel starring in their famous 5-1 Scottish Cup final win over their rivals whilst playing at the expense of robbed charities including the poppy fund, NHS Doctors and Bosnian pensioners to name but a few
