Really struggle to understand how worked up and quick to stick the boot in some folk are over the first pre-season match of the summer. The players have only been back in about a week!
Good to see the forwards getting some goals and another healthy Hibs away support for what was just a training match.

After all and said and done I fink the difference in expectations may well be down to the extent to which folks are excepting of mediocrity :) someone had to get i their before the season started surely :)
tongue firmly in cheek for avoidance of doubt. But should we not expect to beat this outfit handsomely - I mean I wonder how Sir Pat really views such things maybe that should be the benchmark in which folks could agree on?!

He seemed to be the coach before the game, guiding their players through a few drills.

First of all thanks to ElginHibbee for the highlights. Purely on that performance I wasn't really impressed with Hibs at all, and I'm sorry but the likes of Edinburgh City shouldn't be scoring 2 goals against us, but the reality is this was just a kickabout so I'm not concerned at all as I know it'll be a very different performance against a team in a competitive match.

Unfortunately there's always some who can't wait to have a dig at our club. It's beyond my comprehension!

I take it the lads who are away on loan like O’Connor, Johnson etc are not apart of the pre season squad? Would have been good to see them get minutes and go away with the guys on the camp before the go on loan

And O'Connor played for Airdrie today, got two goals

I think it’s more important they are integrated into their loan clubs. Too often we send players out on loan at the end of the window and they struggle to establish themselves into their new teams.

Brilliant play by Doidge for Mackay’s goal.
Mackay looks well involved by those highlights.
Le Fondre hits the woodwork twice and done well for the Melkersen chance.
Youan struck the bar with a good effort.
Really poor defending for both goals.
Good first win of pre season.

Haven't read the whole thread but the 2nd half Hibs would murder the first half Hibs.

There is really no reason to put the boot into Johnson on the basis of a very satisfactory result.
It's a kick about for Hibs but a huge game for the many Hibs players in the Edinburgh City ranks.
Its a short term job for Johnston that keeps him in football as well as the multitudes that surround
him but today was another step on the learning ground that Scottish football isn't the backwater pish that he initially thought.

Nothing more nothing less :agree:.
There's a few on here clearly desperate to have their initial assessment of Lee proven correct, it's quite sad really.

Johnston knew Scottish football well enough before he arrived, remember he played up here. For me he did OK last season given the situation with injuries etc, I think he will win a lot more round as the new season progresses.
That was a decent enough start to our pre-season yesterday. You really can’t draw many meaningful conclusions from the game, it was just step one on the journey towards getting to our first competitive fixture match fit.

I reckon LJ will have learnt from his mistakes from last season. No opposition will roll over to us. Yesterdays results is irrelevant even if we got beat 2-0.
I think DOF will have his own remit from the board pretty much guiding a few players to LJ direction. The scatter gun approach of last season was tried and failed and to be honest I think after the Falkirk cup loss most were a little alarmed but prayed it got better.
There should always be 2-4 younger players pushing for places but if we are serious about cup runs and challenging for 3rd, these youngsters should be at a high standard to contemplate thinking off first team minutes.
Requirements then…
2 x centre half’s, one being will fish
2 x central midfielders, hopefully levitt, I think we will see Henderson depart
1/2 forward players, if we get 2 I think doidge will be off.

I think some of the comments on here are quite honestly pathetic. Yesterday was the first pre season friendly. Its all about getting players ready for the start of the season. Most folk had a good day out yesterday...catching up with mates...couple of pints and watch the hibees in a kick a bout. Nobody expects full blooded tackles, bodies on the line type game. ITS A WARM UP. Training in spain next to get up to speed, then the season starts. At least wait until then before jumping on every mistake etc.

How did the new keeper play? Didn’t look like he had much of a chance with either of the goals

I didn't even know we were back for pre-season training let alone playing friendlies until I looked at this thread. I'm old school...cricket, tennis, golf commands my attention at present (the Ashes has been a great watch so far) and I can't really get into the football until the season proper starts.

I read nothing into these games, even if we win or lose 10-0, it all about getting game time in the legs, which I think this must be the earliest pre-season game we've ever played! I don;t think we can get enough of these run outs, it's another level from the training ground kick abouts.
