Sad to see the BBC are reporting he has passed away, think he'd been ill for a while. RIP big man, was quite a player and character.

One of my earliest real memories of football was watching the home internationals. Who could ever forget the sunny day at Wembley and that towering header. RIP Gordon

What a player taken too soon.
His dad played for Hibs in the 50s.
RIP Gordon

I never realised his dad was a Hibby, I live and learn...He only played a few games he was back up keeper to Tommy Younger. My dad knew him when he played for Leith Athletic.

Terribly sad - for many of us he has been and will be remembered for the first brilliantly headed goal in ‘77 at Wembley - he played for big teams and Scotland so 100% a legend -RIP Sir Gordon McQueen 🥲

Always liked big Gordon a little ungainly but the heart of a lion. Him and Joe Jordan were iconic for Leeds Man U and Scotland. His header at Wembley was brilliant. Think he got injured just before Argentina hurting his knee on Hampdens wooden posts. RIP.

RIP

One of my favourite Scotland players at a time when we had some very good results and real battlers like him in the team.

Sad news!

Loved his reaction to the James McFadden goal against France when on Sky Sports News.

RIP Gordon certainly fitted the "towering center back" label.

Looking at your avatar you probably remember the great Joe's triumphant return to ER against Sheep. Less well known is that Joe was sent off in his next game against St M for punching a teenage Gordon McQueen! Big Gordon had kicked Joe up and down the park all day until Joe snapped. Joe did have previous for laying out Ron Yeats!! 2 great players and characters.

Yes was at the game was it not the case that the sheep. hadn't conceded a goal in so many weeks. There was talk at the time that we were interested in Gordon McQueen.

Writing on the wall for a poor World Cup.

Yes remember that. Think Derek Johnstone got taken in front of Andy Gray which never understood at all.

Possibly the best header I d seen until the two at Hampden....Gray should have gone along with Johnstone, who could have played centre half. Instead we(Ally McLeod) gambled on Gordon McQueen recovering.
