Good move for him and good for us that we didn't end up having to lose him for next to nothing in January. The task now is of course to replace him.

He is a player who really grew on me. It was obvious to anyone that he had talent from the off but for whatever reason I couldn't really take to him. Since returning from injury though he has been outstanding and he's worked his socks off for us. No sulking after January and he's taken a risk going down south. Good luck to him.

Another player who graced the green and white for a while and gave us some enjoyable moments. It will be interesting to see how LJ shapes the team and squad now - what style of forward(s) we look to bring in.

Given the predictability of this I hope and trust Hibs know what they want to do next. Then it’s a case of persuading the player we want and trying to fend off interest from elsewhere. Same as it ever was.

Very glad he stayed with us the extra half season when he could have naffed off in Jan - his contribution was excellent and his goals were possibly the difference between playing in Europe and not.

Don't get the comments about him somehow lacking commitment to the Hibees cause - no lack of effort from where I was standing to add to his undoubted talent.

Wishing Kevin good luck

From a Hibs perspective, I feel like I did when Josh Doig left for Verona

Fair play to the boy, and can't begrudge him the extra earnings

But it's not like losing an Irreplaceable (a McGinn or a Boyle)

Not looking to rain on any parade, just saying good luck Kev & a front three of Youan Boyle and Kukharevych may score more by Christmas than Millwall get all season

So, good business all round and thanks for the goals Kevin

Good luck to Kevin, he deserves a chance to try something different, earn more money, and credit to him for not taking the easy old firm option at this time.

His goalscoring record is very decent, and he went through an incredibly difficult period when his Dad passed away at a relatively young age, that must have knocked him for six for a good period.

Decent move for him. Down South was always a better option than the Bigots or Bhoys. Hopefully, other younger talented Scottish players look at McGinn, Doig and now Nisbet and think, sign for the Hibs, improve, maybe get a cap or two, and then move on to bigger and better.

Tarring everyone with the same brush doesn't fit, Millwall have more than their fair share of bellends, but we aren't immune ourselves.

Gets nothing but good luck from me on his future, would rather see him go down south than across the m8.

He maybe did want out of Hibs a few times and some could say he downed tools when he never got his move. Picked up a bad injury and came back strong, though his overall play improved under Johnson.

It’s a tinpot transfer fee. Why are we constantly sold short for transfer fees. Aberdeen and hearts hold on to their best players or get a
Disproportionate fee. Our revenue is already in a negative when compared to Aberdeen and hearts prize money. But we expect to compete for 3rd. I’d rather keep him lose the transfer fee and realistically compete for 3rd next season.

Give an example of being able to generate a positive revenue to make us being able to compete for 3rd when we are already playing catch up, goals win games. There’s no plan to bridge the gap it’s hit and hope. But it’s fine we’re going to have a great pitch and loads of halfwits doing podcasts

Can't help but feel really ****ing frustrated that the value of non-OF Scottish teams' best players has actually decreased in the last decade whilst in almost every other country it's increased exponentially.

In 2033 we'll be selling our star striker to Doncaster Rovers for £1 million while Yeovil Town get £30 million for some guy.

Where does is say £2m or is a .net fact? We’re being sold short season after season. Players sold, players bought, standard of manager, youth development. But it’s fine we’ve got good contacts a city group and you can have a family day at the training centre (that was paid for by transfer fees for an under valued player). On this model is delusional we can be consistently challenging for 3rd and root cause of why we yo-yo as a club

Genuinely, what are you expected for a mid twenties injury prone(ish) striker who has 12 months left on his deal?

12 months ago, if fit, we could have been looking at a higher fee of course, but it's still profit.

Doig moved at the perfect time for him, but another year with us could have seen his price tag improve a bit, but he's basically 100% profit. We even managed to get a team to agree a 1m fee for Melkersen if he done well there, despite him doing not much for us. Sell on fee included on Macey and Doig, now Nisbet, as well as decent money up front for both.

Were not doing bad off the park, under the Gordon's we have always been good off the park in all honesty, on the park is a work in progress, but despite poor seasons on the pitch, we're still spending money and making decent profits.

The media reports seven figure with significant sell (undisclosed) on which means shtty end of the stick. But I presume you believe Rebecca Vardy actually lost her phone over board and boris had to change his phone. Different comparison. We are fed that we have the resources to finish 3rd or 4th when actually we struggle to do so. We’re told that redevelopment of different assets will put us on great footing. We’re told that restructuring coaching, youth development and scouting will help grow home grown talent will bring the club to a competitive level. Sadly just doesn’t happen. Nisbet being sold on the cheap is just another disappointment but this wouldn’t be accepted by the teams we are competing with for 3rd

Would have preferred he stayed and focused on Hibs but that was never going to happen hopefully some of the dough will be used to bring in experienced starters that will hit the ground running and give us greater strength in depth and consistency

Didn't think he ever wanted to be here or was really was really commited to the club TBH.

He couldn't have done much more as a professional footballer that always knew he was moving on. He scored goals. Got injured doing his job. Came back stronger. Earned the club good money.

Think it's worth reminding that Hibs signed Kevin Nisbet - for a very significant fee - beating other interesred clubs, including Hearts to his signature. It was one of many transfers that did see us compete for.. and finish 3rd. We have spent big fees relative to our place on the ladder on the likes of Boyle (beating other interested clubs, including Aberdeen) and now Youan. There's been other big outlays on good players under the Gordon stewardship, Magennis I'm sure Ron was in the building for, that's not worked out but nothing to do with ambition or spend. Personally think since Gordon came in and under the Gordon's now we have seen a bigger investment in recruitment and a more speculate to accumulate mindset. The model has to be for us to pick up the likes of Nisbet, get some success on the pitch from him and sell for profit - exactly what we've done.
Of course it hasn't been all rosey on the recruitment front, there's been misses like McCrorrie and duds signed haven't worked out. Injuries also play a huge part in where we end up, as we all know.
Considering the near toxic reaction to the club in recent past over recruitment there has been good players brought in aswell. The mistakes made have been acknowledged and we have brought in McDermott specifically to improve on that front.
I'm looking forward to see who comes in now and looking forward to next season

Thats where I'm at with him. Clearly a quality player but attitude at times was questionable. Didnt help that didnt always get good service but he spent many a game throwing arms in the air and moaning etc.Played really well and more committed after coming back from injury but maybe that was more about selling himself. Good luck to him though and thanks for a derby winner.

Ryan Christie moved from Celtic to Bournemouth within the final year of his contract for between £1.5-2.5m according to reports. He’d won 2 trebles with Celtic, scored a number of European goals and had more international caps than Nisbet. He also wasn’t returning from serious injury. As a comparison, to receive a fee in the same ballpark for Nisbet is good going.

The media reports seven figure with significant sell (undisclosed) on which means shtty end of the stick. But I presume you believe Rebecca Vardy actually lost her phone over board and boris had to change his phone. I’d rather club were honest it’s all smoke and mirrors to make us look like we are competitive. Realistically we won’t and historically have proven that Europe and 3rd place isn’t a constant. But it’s fine we’ve convinced everyone that our facilities are amazing while hiding the fact that our product is terrible.

I think one of the main things with Nisbet is it’s almost like he’s trying to make up for lost time.

He spent a couple of years in the lower divisions due to a poor attitude/professionalism and then the penny dropped.

Now he’s unbelievably focussed and determined and it seems to be a motivator for him to make up for lost time and realise his full potential.

Like it about him

Plus the salary comes into it too. Ryan Christie would have been on a considerably higher salary than Nisbet so for us to get a similar fee, we've done reasonably well. I'm happy if it's around the £2m mark and hopefully it includes a decent sell-on %age.

Meh, good goal scorer. Never wanted to be here. Wanted to go as soon as he was in the door.

Never really cared much for him and I suspect he felt the same about hibs.

Kind of where I am as well. I never expect players to go about kissing the badge and all that, in most cases it's pretty meaningless. I'm also not daft enough to think that every young player who comes through the door at Easter Road sees us as the pinnacle of their career, not if they have ambition to play in a bigger league and earn more money.

But with Nisbet there was always the feeling that he had little feeling for the club and that he was thinking about his next move before the ink was even dry on his signature from our legendary multi click pen. That made it hard to take to him and in all honesty if his replacement hits the ground running he will be forgotten about before next season is finished so far as his time here is concerned.

I don't wish the guy any ill will, but I doubt I'll take anything more than a pretty tepid passing interest in his future career, apart from hoping he rips it up in the EFL and we get our percentage of a decent transfer fee.

We want young and highly ambitious guys at the club. We'll always have guys like Hanlon and Stevenson who are good pros and dedicated to the club, but with the best will in the world they are not good enough to be moving on to a higher level.

Guys like Nisbet come in, do well and help the team then earn us a return on our investment. If we can repeat the cycle enough we should progress as a club.

I don't see a Gulf state choosing to buy us any time soon and start pumping millions in, so it's the only viable business model to achieve better outcomes.

Good post. Let's be honest, he also missed two absolutely massive penalties for us that could have profoundly changed things in a positive light had he scored. Cup against Hearts to set up a Scottish Cup final against a dreadful Celtic team (relatively speaking) and a major chance of getting third with that pen against Aberdeen and £4 million odd in Europe, not to mention all the games. He often went missing when we really needed him. However, he was a very good striker for us.

Nisbet used Hibs as a stepping stone. The same way that he used Raith Rovers, Dunfermline and now Millwall. No issue with it whatsoever. He's ambitious and I like ambitious players. Good on him. Millwall fans will soon find out he'll not be hanging around long and why should he?

What I didn't like was him appearing to sulk when we said no to Birmingham. Hopefully he's learned from that (which he appears to have done) as he really didn't do himself any favours. Good player, highs and lows, but strangely not one I'm particularly bothered about. He got what he wanted and we got some decent coin for a player soon to be out of contract. We move on.

I think primarily that the club thinks our squad is generally ok.

We’ll hear talk of these players returning as ‘being like new signings’, similar to what we’ve heard in the past.

I don’t expect to see wholesale changes in our first team. Rather, I think we’ll trim the squad and try to add a bit more strength to the bench.

Most footballers nowadays do use clubs as a stepping stone and considering he's been at us 3 years I think thats a decent amount of time he's been at us in fairness .

I think some Hibs fans underestimate how good Kevin Nisbet is on here . I'd put him up with some of the best strikers I seen at Hibs like Wright and stokes and while some fans aren't bothered about him going I think it's going to be very hard to replace him with a similar quality striker. After coming back from his serious injury he couldn't be faulted for his effort and commitment when playing for us . I thought Youan signing was the Nisbet money being spent.

The first choice middle of the 3 will be a loan signing, which I'm not too unhappy about, and he'll probably use Boyle and Youan centrally if that player gets injured.

I'm not expecting a lot of arrivals for that part of the team and I expect us to be pretty thin there.

No idea if we'll persist with Melkersen but I suspect we'll fall quite far short of whatever our targets are if he ends up playing a lot of first team football next season.

It's annoying cause I think there's definitely a player in there with Melkersen, but I can't see how he possibly could have improved any with that loan.

Also a bit worried that LJ punted him out on loan and we added in a set price for him, don't think LJ see's a future for him here.

Think we'll loan back Myko and spend on a Nisbet replacement. Think both Doidge and Melkersen will be away.

Said he loved our club and was happy to remain and work his socks off after his move to Birmingham fell through

This was the first window after he signed but you could see his determination and commitment after he recently returned from injury and hated Hearts/Ratboy with a passion

Maybes like most ex players he ‘gets us’ and would be open to returning as a fan or a player

His commitment or desire in the green and white was never in doubt and was not slow to show his frustration when things were not going to plan

Sorry to see him leave, but it was inevitable.

Scored many goals but injuries blighted his time here and he never really had a full season. His attitude was questioned but I never saw lack of effort, lack of support was more apparent.

Missing that penalty in the cup probably, unfairly, meant many never took to him after.

His performances since his return showed us what he was capable of with decent support. The two goals versus the yams always help.

All the best Kevin.

Was he excellent for us?

In the period he’s been here Boyle, who’s a winger, has an almost identical GPG as him and I’d hazard a guess more assists.

Duk and the other boy at Aberdeen have significantly better GPG over their career in Scotland, so does Van Veen, so does Shankland. Liam Boyce has a better record at Hearts as well despite him playing a lot of games as a 10.

Throw in a couple of big misses at pivotal points of seasons and I think excellent is stretching it tbh. He’s been pretty good for us, but he’s not as good as people are making out imo and I reckon that’ll show down south. I’d be surprised if he goes higher than Milwall and wouldn’t be surprised to see him float around other similar sized teams in that league the rest of his career, the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Birmingham etc.

I kind of reckon Doidge could do a job with Boyle and Youan providing ample service on the wings. Once that pair are both fit, all we need is someone to stand in the right place and let the ball bounce of their erse, which is Doidge's speciality. Obviously I'd like someone with a bit more pedigree, but my point is that I think even he would bang/bonk in a few.

All about opinions but I think he has been excellent. Every striker will miss big chances at some stage. I don’t really care about diving Duk and co tbh. This is about Nisbet. I think he’ll do well at Millwall and will move on to bigger things.

I'd have Kevin Nisbet over Duk and the other Aberdeen boy and van Veen, Boyce every day of the week tbh . Much better striker imo . As to Shankland v Nisbet debate I'd still pick Nisbet over Shankland . Nisbet's overall game is better than Shankland imo .Something we seen for ourselves in our Edinburgh derby win , you'd hardly know Shankland was playing in the game ! .

If Millwall create chances Nisbet will score goals and could definitely attract the attention of a bigger English club. Personally I thought he would have got one when he left us .Imo the guys quality and very underated by some on here and it's s going to be very hard to replace Nisbet with another of his quality too .

I can't decide.

He's got something about him but there is a huge gap between Nisbet at his best and Nisbet at his worst.

You could put that down to a number of things - some choose to blame the creativity of the rest of our team, some go to town on Nisbet, his ability and his attitude but I don't think we can get away from the fact that he's a pretty streaky player.

He's done well and had some great performances since coming back from injury and I think he redeemed himself with us (well, most of us) by staying on beyond January. He can move on without us feeling like he owes us anything, quite the opposite.

If he focuses on Millwall and playing well there then he might well have another upward move in him. If he thinks about his upward move, Scotland, Celtic or anything else then he won't do what he needs to do at Millwall and that will be the pinnacle of his career.

A fit, motivated and happy Nisbet will be an asset to them though. Having seen him look better in every way since his injury, I can't help but think the death of his father affected his performances for quite a while and we should cut him a bit fair bit of slack for that.

Even those of us who have been critical of him though should be wishing him all the best.

Agree but 12 goals from 17 starts plus 3 appearances as a sub in the second half of the season just finished is far from streaky form probably kept us in the top six

We will find it hard to replace him

Nisbet started and finished excellently for us. He’d had a pretty poor season overall, up until the point of his injury, in his second season but I think there were reasons for that.

A motivated Nisbet, like we’ve had since December, is going to be extremely difficult to replace. Think he’ll do well down there as there are parts of his game that have massively improved since his injury, possibly helped by the time spent in the gym.

Nisbet is highly ambitious. He did an excellent job for us and will be difficult to replace. What more did you want from him? He is on an upward trajectory and I’m glad we’ve been able to benefit from his services over the past few years. He was outstanding after his return from injury. I don’t care that he isn’t a Hibby and I wish him well.

I didn't care that he wasn't a Hibby and I'm not dissing his goals return, the guy was / is pretty decent. All I'm saying is that I never got a connection with him as a player and in all honesty you didn't really see it between him and his team mates either. There have been tons of players at this club who have moved on over the years and you were sorry to see them go because you felt playing for the club mattered to them more than just the weekly wage and who might be watching from the stand from a 'bigger' club. Kevin Nisbet for me wasn't one of them.

Good post

I felt the same disconnect with him to me initially it was like he viewed playing for Hibs as just another job a stepping stone probably coming from the West he did not appreciate how big a deal playing for Hibs was

I felt for him when he lost his Dad the pressure of taking a penalty in a Cup Semi Final and his unfortunate serious injury

In the last six months he won me over though back even better than his early promising start to his Hibs career fitter stronger faster hungrier he looked as though he cared this time and wanted the Club to be the best it could be

As another poster pointed out if in doubt just watch his celebrations in his two goals against Hearts

Not sure if he was helped in terms of fan connection given the first part of his career at Hibs was in empty stadiums, there would have been much more interaction if he had scored with a decent crowd in the stadium. His recent goals particularly the ones v Hearts and Celtic at ER were brilliant to see how much he and us enjoyed them.

True

The Celtic goal was a pen but he we enjoyed it nonetheless

Think he scored three goals against Celtic I especially liked his natural finish when the ball fell to him in the box at Parkhead in a 1-1 draw

In that first season 18 goals was a decent return but you always got the feeling he couldn’t wait to move on

The second half of last season convinced me he really cared and I wish him every success

He should really have left Easter Road with a medal imo but that is another story

This wasn't the first time he was signed to us. He was with us as a youth, so he should have some idea. I agree that it did seem to just viewed us as another stepping stone but a lot of players think like that. Maybe even being released by us previously won't have helped either.

He's said quite a few times he loves the club, this is an article from 2021. Think people assume if a player has an affiliation with a club it means they shouldn't push for a move, when in reality, we're Hibs. Big for our level, but even the biggest Hibs fans would jump at the chance of more money, and as much as Nizzy will love the club, he didn't grow up a fan.

Agree but thought he proved in the last six months that he really cared by his attitude and the way he celebrated his goals but of course it was a win win for Kevin Nisbet as he got the move he craved Probably a Celtic fan but I feel he now has a genuine soft spot and bond with Hibernian FC

The club / LJ will view Boyle, Merlkerson and Youan as a decent front 3 to choose from.

I don’t think we’ll see any signings that make us think ‘that’s the Nisbet money being spent’.

I agree that the club thinks the squad is "ok" - and they have proven to be so in as far as getting to Europe is concerned.
What I don't agree with is what seems an unjustifiably gloomy mindset that the club are satisfied with "ok".
I certainly hope that all at Hibs are desperate to improve on "ok" - and I've seen nothing to make me think that hope is misplaced. Amidst choruses on here of doom and cries of "it'll never happen" we have seen the club secure the much desired services of Ellie Youan and Will Fish in recent weeks. So - against that background, what is it that makes you believe that no serious efforts will be made to replace Nisbet using the considerable sums recouped for him? I'm just not seeing the cause of all this dourness!

Yet were very close to a play off.

I have quite a few relatives (mainly cousins and their offspring now) who are Millwall supporters like my late Father's side of the family tree. Most of them have always stated they the feel the club does not want the hassle of a probable yo-yo up and down few seasons. This tends to be backed up by the final few games in many seasons where they look to throw it all away. Not particularly my take on things but then I don't give a Tom Kite about Millwall, horrible, horrible support.
